foreign investment in Colombia During the last decade, Colombia has made considerable progress regarding its foreign investment legislation. Thanks to such progress, these procedures are now much more expedite and less uncertain for investors.

I recommend you read this document that presents the main fundamentals of the Colombian foreign investment, regime, describing the regime’s key principles, the various types and forms of investments that can be made in the country, and the corresponding requirements. Finally, it mentions some special regimes that govern the financial & insurance, hydrocarbon & mining, and television sectors, the international foreign investment protection treaties that Colombia is a party to, and other relevant aspects such as those pertaining to technological transfer contracts and arbitration.

zuan comments on Planning on a visit to Bucaramanga

Travel to Bucaramanga I recommend you fly from Medellin

Blessed with a temperate year-round climate, and enjoying an awe-inspiring landscape, Bucaramanga is the perfect destination. Whether its romantic, adventure, sport, nature or simply relaxation you’re after, this city has it all. Bucaramanga is also known as the "Ciudad de los Parques" ("The City of the Parks") and "Ciudad Bonita" ("Pretty City").

Bucaramanga is the capital of the department of Santander, fifth city in terms of importance in that country, and seventh in terms of population, Bucaramanga is one of the fastest growing cities in Latin America. Bucaramanga population is about 1.2 million and is well developed and cheaper than Medellin and Cali.

Metropolitan area includes the towns of: Girón (30 minutes in car from downtown), Piedecuesta (45 min.) and Floridablanca (15 min.). The town of Lebrija where Bucaramanga's airport (BGA) is located is also nearby (50 min). The weather is great. during the day can be as high as 30C but the humidity is very low so it very tolerable not like the coast when its 30 it fell like 45.

Bucaramanga 3 main areas:
1.Cabecera.
An exclusive residential and commercial area. walking distance to the most significant bars, shopping, restaurants, commercial, and tourism facilities. recommended hotel: Dann Carlton

2. Cañaveral.
20 minutes in car from Cabecera. Another exclusive residential and commercial area. Includes "Cañaveral" Mall with Casino, "La Florida" Mall with Cinemark. recommended hotel: Bucaramanga Country Club

3. Center.
6 minutes in car from Cabecera. Average commercial area very near to the most significant financial and administrative facilities. recommended hotel: La Triada

In Colombia is most commonly used the word "Santandereanas" for women from Santander. You can use "bucaras" or "bumanguesas" for the women from Bucaramanga. I prefer use my personal word "Bucagirls"

Bucagirls are raised in a traditional, loving, and family orientated society with family and husband being the most important values. Maybe women from Medellin and Cali are more friendly and easy to talk to. bucagirls are real, feminine, strong character women with naturally curvaceous bodies. more prominent hips, thighs, and rear, less prominent shoulders and bust. Defined waist. Average to larger legs. Other interesting thing is the fact that here there are a few gringos, so you will be a lucky guy between this beautiful girls.

zuan comments on Fiancee in Barranquilla

BTW trolling is now a federal crime It's no joke. President Bush signed into law (H.R. 3402 !) a prohibition on posting annoying Web messages or sending annoying e-mail messages without disclosing your true identity.

In other words, it's OK to flame someone on a mailing list or in a blog as long as you do it under your real name.

The constitutionality of this law has of course not yet been established. It no doubt will eventually be tested on constitutional grounds as soon as it seriously affects someone with a few million dollars to waste taking it to court. But until then, maybe we should all review our cyber-postings before hitting “Post” to see if they pass legal muster?

zuan comments on Fiancee in Barranquilla

maybe this information is important for you On January 5, 2006, the President Bush has signed into law H.R. 3402, the Violence Against Women and Department of Justice Appropriations
Reauthorization Act of 2005

This law includes the International Marriage Broker Regulation Act of 2005.

Sec. 832. International Marriage Broker Information Requirements. This section provides that a U.S. citizen filing a petition for a K visa for a fiancée from another country must provide information on criminal convictions for specified crimes. These include a list of violent crimes, including assault and battery as well as crimes relating to substance or alcohol abuse. The Department of Homeland Security will provide this criminal history information, along with
results of their search for any criminal convictions to the foreign national beneficiary. The Department of State is prohibited from approving a fiancée visa if the petitioner has petitioned for more than 2 K visas in the past, or less than 2 years have passed since the petitioner filed for a K visa and that visa was approved. DHS can waive this bar, but if person has history of violent crimes, the bar cannot be waived unless DHS determined that there are extraordinary
circumstances, or the individual's crimes were a result of domestic violence, the individual was not the primary perpetrator of the violence, and the crime did not result in serious bodily injury.
DHS is directed to create a database to track repeated K applications and notify petitioner and spouse when second K is applied for in 10 year period. All future K applications will trigger similar notice, with domestic violence pamphlet being sent to K beneficiary. The fact that an individual was provided with this information and the domestic violence pamphlet for immigrants cannot be used to deny their eligibility for relief under VAWA.
Section 833. Domestic Violence Information and Resources for Immigrants and Regulation
of International Marriage Brokers. This section directs DOS, DHS and DOJ to create a pamphlet on domestic violence rights and resources for immigrants as well as a summary of that pamphlet for use by Federal officials in the interview process. The pamphlet is to be translated
into at least 14 languages and the required list of translations is to review and revised every 2 years based on the language spoken by the greatest concentration of K nonimmigrant visa applicants. The pamphlet is to be mailed to all K applicants with their visa application process instruction packet as well as a copy of the petition submitted by the petitioner. The pamphlet is to be made available to the public at all consular posts, and posted on the DOS, DHS, and consular post websites. The pamphlet will also be provided to any international marriage broker, government agency or non-governmental advocacy organization.

1. this gringo is NOT a sexual tourist
2. this gringo is NOT married yet
3. this gringo is NOT poor
4. this gringo is NOT a criminal

Gourmet filet steaks Sirloin:The Sirloin Steak, Round Bone is located further back on the sirloin area of the beef loin. This particular sirloin steak has the greatest amount of lean and the least amount of bone.

Tenderloin:The most tender retail cut from the entire beef carcass is the Beef Loin Tenderloin Steak. This steak has a fine texture, is circular in shape and is usually about three inches in diameter.

Porterhouse steak / filet châteaubriand: The Porterhouse Steak is similar to the beef loin T-bone steak. However the tenderloin muscle is much larger and an extra muscle is located in the center of the porterhouse steak on the upper side.

black peso exchange: $5 billion dollars Dollar vs Peso 2005 Chart

Most Colombian drug kingpins live in Colombia and rarely leave their safe havens of Medellin, Cali or other Colombian cities. They need pesos in Colombia to live their lives, purchase homes, buy political protection and pay the Colombian coca producers, the labs and smuggling costs. When they sell the drugs on the streets of the United States, they collect huge quantities of US dollars and these dollars need to somehow be converted into pesos.

Because of restrictive Colombian currency controls and tax laws, a black market to exchange currency has existed for decades for Colombian businessmen. Even a rich Colombian doctor who is sending his daughter to college in the United States will use the black market to buy dollars with which to pay the US tuition. He does that because he can save money.

So as banks around the world became stricter about money laundering laws, Colombian traffickers began avoiding using the legitimate bank system and started infiltrating the black peso exchange to launder their drug money. This sophisticated method would eventually become known as the Black Market Peso Exchange, and is still one the most successful money laundering methods ever devised. Fanny Kertzman, the former chief of Colombian Customs, says the black peso exchange launders almost $5 billion dollars of drug money a year for the Colombian traffickers.

Miss Colombia & me ;-)
One of the most beautiful woman of Colombia show me her ring.

MISS COLOMBIA 2005 INTERVIEW: Adriana Tarud Duran
Age: 22
Height: 5'9"
Hair Colour: Brown
Eye Colour: Brown

* Interests: One of my main interests is applying my acquired knowledge in Industrial Engineeering, especially in Supply Chain Management. I enjoy traveling because it gives me the opportunity to broaden my horizons. Colombia is home to many festivals and I enjoy participating with my family in as many of them as possible, especially Barranquilla's Carnival.

* Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why?
My grandfather, Argelino Duran Quintero, lead me to understand what truly matters in life and what it is worth. He was a man that always worked with love for Colombia.

* What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you (aside from winning your title) and/or what is the most interesting thing about you?
A 5 year old kid named Isaias David taught me many things about life in just one week. Last December while taking Christmas gifts to children with scarce economic resources, I met Isais David who unfortunately had advanced cancer. I immediately felt something very special about him so I start investigating in order to help him. After just one week, I received the awful news that he was no longer with us. He made me realize that everything in life has a reason to be.

* What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?
My career ambition is to apply the knowledge that I have acquired throughout my studies, my personal and work experiences in expanding my family's business as well as other projects that I have in mind.

* Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.
I was raised in a spectacular city called Barranquilla known as "La Puerta de Oro de Colombia", where everybody knows each other and where cultural values are emphasized and the traditions are maintained. I have always had the fortune of being surrounded by a large, loving family that has always been unconditional in every situation of my life; always having clear, structured values and morals present.

* List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had.
While I was a student, I worked at Perry Ellis International at the MIS Department. I acquired a lot of knowledge and interest in subjects in which I had never been involved before.
I also worked in the Telecommunications Department in the School of Law at the University of Miami performing tasks not related to my field of study.

* What is your most unusual talent?
In my opinion every talent is unusual since each person gives a touch of authenticity to what they do. I have the ability to draw and although I have never had the opportunity to fully develope in this field, I do expect to study it in the near future.

zuan comments on Heading to Bucamaranga and Piedecuesta in January...

Bucaramanga is really safe This area is among one of the safest in Colombia.
Bucaramanga is located in a plateau in the east mountain chain of Los Andes. Bucaramanga's metropolitan area includes the towns of Girón, Piedecuesta and Floridablanca. The town of Lebrija where Bucaramanga's airport (BGA) is located is also nearby.
The roads are ok, safe & clean... well, maybe you can find sometimes a bunch of crazy drivers, like in any urban area in Colombia ;-)
I am living here since 1991 & never have seen bad guys (you know what i mean). In fact, you can visit the neighborhoods too: Barichara, San Gil. No problems with taxis here, they have meters and are quite safe. Blessed with a temperate year-round climate, and enjoying an awe-inspiring landscape, Bucaramanga is the perfect destination. Whether its romantic, adventure, sport, nature or simply relaxation you’re after, this city has it all.

zuan comments on Colombian Emeralds?

THE 4C's The 4C’s are used throughout the world as a standardized method of classifying the quality and value of gemstones. Originally developed for classifying diamonds, this standardized approach has subsequently been implemented in assessing the rarity and value of emeralds.

The value of any given emerald is based on a combination of attributes under each rating of CUT , CARAT , COLOR and CLARITY

RULE OF THUMB:
In general, when judging an emerald’s value, color is of paramount importance: the more vivid (deeper?) the green the more valuable the stone. Of course, there are attractive lighter green emeralds that are lively and vivid when set in jewelry, as well as darker green emeralds that make up for there lack of brightness in the richness of the color. Generally speaking, however, very light or dark emeralds are less valuable. And, as far as clarity is concerned, unlike diamonds a finely colored emerald is not significantly devalued by inclusions
