zeineguy comments on Hello i'm new to this forum and Going to Bogota For the 1st Time. hi, have not been to bogota. only cali. but the same rules i think follow for anyone. Dont flash your wealth. leave your gold at home. esp watches and chains. Dont carry large sums of money.. i found in cali i can use the ATM's and get a good rate. When i was in cali, my last weekend, two americans showed up ( btw i am from canada) and the older male had gold necklaces, gold watch, and rings. as we were sitting there having beers outside our hotel, he opened his wallet, and he had about $1000 USD plus another mil in pesos. along with his gold cc. If you want a bad experience.. this is the way to come. You will be sure to be targeted. I knew little spanish and brought very little with me. but had an amazing time there. If you are from LA, then just think about how to act in the worse neighborhoods there. I am thinking of going to bogota in august.. as i have a few friends that want to meet me.

zeineguy comments on Government Guarantees for Visiting Colombians hi am new here. but i have done research. look on the canadian govt immigration website. look under refugee visa. colombia is listed as a country in which canada has a refugee status. maybe why it is easier for colombians can get visa here now. under that.. you can sponsor someone. or as a group/ organization. the govt also has money to help new refugees. I dont know which is easier.. to apply in bogota.. or just show up in canada and claim refugee status. at least with being in canada.. they can stay until their claim is dealt with. with the refugee status.. the best thing is if they can prove to be independent after time to live in canada. having a friend may help. I have friends in colombia that i would like to bring here.. but i find most are scared to the idea. and also with the recent events this year, they have a good chance to stay here. as the life in colombia is not as safe.
