zat1 comments on LEAVING FOR BOGOTA TODAY Bon Voyage! Bogotá is a great city Jordan. Just exercise precaution. Don't go doing things you don't see Colombians doing. If there is something they don't do, or places they don't go ... well, there is a reason, you know?

zat1 comments on modern cumbia in colombia today Hey guys Well, now that we are in the subject of Cumbia from other countries... I pretty much hate it all, especially something called "cumbia villera" (scary, scary stuff). I have, however, a very soft spot for some musicians from Mexico that have approached the intention and the spirit of the rythm even if they haven't mastered the sound yet. They are Celso Piña and El Gran Silencio. I love Cumbia Lunera's bass line as well as the choppy, chunky bass line of Chúntaro Style. However, for real modern cumbia Totó La Momposina, Mojarra Eléctrica, Sidestepper and Curupirá are the way to go.
