yummyj comments on 2010 soccer World Cup - France qualifying over Ireland In the heat and fury of the game, at the mouth of the goal, with the play going so fast, him pushing the ball and kicking it is happening so fast, you should understand how it happened. He DID go to the referee and tell him what he did. The ref said it was too late, he didn't see it and that was that. The USA qualified because they have a relatively easy road to the World Cup. I guess they paid for it, or it would be the same amount of difficulty for all North American teams. Go look at the groups if you don't believe me.

yummyj comments on Flights from Medellin to San Juan, PR A bit expersive? Flying at this time of year is the most expensive and difficult to even get a ticket. If you pay less than 3 times the normal price and actually get a ticket, count yourself lucky.

yummyj comments on Near Death Experience with Brasilia Can we judge AFTER reading the story? Would the words have been the same if he wasn't fat and 60 years old? Yeah, fighting always solves problems. Too bad you weren't in the USA, you could call your lawyer. That is the solution for everything!!! (If you're from the USA.)

yummyj comments on Colombia - recession finally biting? Not sure where you live, but as a business owner and a guy who has talked wih many other business owners (Colombian) and seen the businesses around me close (Medellin), the recession has been strong all year long. Personally, I think it is based on fear fo spending because of the news from around the world. But whatever it is, the whole year has been shyte.

yummyj comments on What Does "Bill" Mean? Bill Turley - The Colombian Pronounciation of B and V is equal To the best of my understanding, that is not correct. ALL Spanish pronouce the first B or V as a B... ...and the 2nd B or V in the word as a V.

yummyj comments on Airline pricing - am I missing something?! Most airlines and travel agencies offer better prices for return flights than one-way. No reason to blast this or any airline. It is common. Many-a-time I have bought a return ticket and never used the return portion.

yummyj comments on How do you teach English if you don't speak Spanish? Fernando, all non-teachers and new teachers are confused as to how it is possible to teach English if you don't speak the student's language. After you start, you'll understand. The fact is, you can't speak beginners who do not know any English. It is next to impossible and takes a lot of time. If they have some knowledge, there are many ways to teach so they understand. Hands, pictures, live examples. (A teacher needs to be a good actor, not shy) If you start speaking their language, you are not teaching, you are translating. I have proved it many times in my classes (back when I taught). You give one student the translation to a word and explain it in English to the other student. That student will remember the word the next day. The 1st student can't remember the translation. The ideal for the class is a ratio of 70-30 for the student to the teacher. New teachers and bad teachers will be the opposite. They talk 70% of the time to the students' 30%) This is less for beginners, obviously, and grows with the level. You need to slow your speech, stop using idioms and speak in easy English. Then you can explain things in English. Confidence is big for learners, so if you speak Spanish, they will come to rely on it, and not try like they should be doing.

yummyj comments on A nation is obsessed as Miss Colombia beauty pageant comes to a big end I guess the nation obssessed is the nation that has full time workers to make their Miss the best - the USA.

yummyj comments on 14 year old girl shot 3 times in the head leaving school oneforyourmillion has it right. In the US, they prefer to walk into schools, malls and ARMY BASES and gun down several people at one time. Not only one person like in Colombia. But what the US likes even better is to invade a foreign country and kill bad guys and innocent citizens. And for anyone who thinks that list of countries is not large, look it up. There was even a thread on it here at PBH.

yummyj comments on Spirit Airlines -- is there a catch? Some people love them because the site is POORbuthappy. (more aptly named CHEAPand WHINING) I can't believe that people actually talk about attractiveness of flight attendants. What bearing does this have on anything?

yummyj comments on Chavez is lining up, but would the US public support another war effort Who cares what the public thinks? If a country needs to be saved from tyrany, the world needs to help them. The US stepped into Iraq, but not Myanmar, North Korea or Cuba. Why? No oil in those countries. Colombia does have oil, but they have another commodity that the US needs to control...cocaine. If Chavez were stupid enough to mess with Colombia, the US would not only defend Colombia, they would have their excuse to waltz into Venezuela and remove him.

yummyj comments on Medellin v. Bogota? Are you really saying that Medellin is more dangerous than Bogota? Hard to believe. A lot of violence in Medellin is with the drug wars or rival/family fueds. In Bogota, anyone is a target, anywhere. You can't really compare a small city with a big city. The big city has more stuff and is more expensive. More crime and more stress. A smaller city has less of everything; so, less stress. (downside is it might be boring)

yummyj comments on I just can't beleive how cheap are plane tickets are in Colombia Medellin- Bogota is more expensive than Bogota-Medellin. But cudos to tasco for being the FIRST person ever on pbh NOT to complain about prices being high.

yummyj comments on Understanding Colombianas? There is no reason for a thread about understanding Colombianas. There is ONE topic, understanding ANY female in the world. Of course, the answer is... It is impossible to understand any female, it does not matter where she is from. Proof - even women don't understand each other.

|
yummyj comments on Barking Spider closing ? Here is a good point for Satan and relate to this thread. (Well, related to the big words you have run off.)... No business in Colombia. You seem to know everything about it. So, why don't you have a business in Colombia? Please don't say, "Because I don't want one." "Those who can; do." How about - put your money where your mouth is.

yummyj comments on Johnny and his banking tips Dear Lord, why don't people realize that there is no good answer to questions like... "Which ***** is the best?" Every person will have a different experience and opinion of every bank. People love Bancolombia - they stole $1000 from me. I like Santander, lots of people complain about it. You cannot blame someone for their opinion just because you had a bad experience. And asking for opinions just brings in good and bad for everything.

yummyj comments on How many of you would run back to the USA if Venezuela declares war on Colombia 2 steps into Colombia and Chavez would get a call from Obama saying, "ahem..." and withdraw immediately. Colombia is #2 on the list of countries to receive money from the US (Egypt is #1)...that carries weight and privileges.

yummyj comments on Falling in love in Colombia as advertised on CNN commercial....... No comment on your theory, but... The CNN commercial is about falling love with the country of Colombia, not a person in Colombia.

yummyj comments on Medellin Real Estate Prices in the "Big Leagues" - Outrageous Supply and demand seem to be irrelevant in real estate in Colombia. Medellin or Bogota. They make an apartment and make it 20,000,000 more than the homes in the area are selling for. Then they add more for the nice finishing touches they put on it. Then maybe more because it happens to be in a good location. Price per m2 seems to have gone out the door. Washing money in construction is an age-old practice by many criminals in many countries.

yummyj comments on Most Colombians can find their country on a world map. 20% of Americans can't. Why are so many Mexicans working illegally in the US? They do jobs that Americans refuse to do. (How many jobless in the USA right now?)

yummyj comments on Whats Up With The Color of Medellin River Today? The story that I heard was that a company had a spill of some sort. The officials would not say what it was, but assured everyone that is it not dangerous. Then they said that the company would be fined. The answers, of course, raise more questions.

yummyj comments on Medellin to Bogota flight questions Aerorepublica has a sale rght now, I just flew MED-BOG for 120,000 pesos. Avianca prices are different for MED-BOG or BOG-MED. More expensive from Medellin, and 250,000 is about right. From Bogota, I usually pay 180,000-200,000.

yummyj comments on Canadians invading Colombia Canadians in Colombia offer a great service... They thin out the amount of Americans. They delight the locals when the local snidely asks, "De EEUU?" or "Gringo?" and they reply, "Oh God no, I am Canaida." and the local is thrilled and happy.

yummyj comments on I know Steve, the owner, so before all the morons bombard this thread with jokes or hearsay, I will tell you why. Selling it has always been on his mind for about a year or so. Being a pilot, he is away a lot and it is really hard to run the buesiness from outside the country. He recently got married and obviously wants to spend more time with his wife, not dealing with the stress of the business. There is not debt. The only problems with the business are dealing with the employees and dealing with the whiney, demanding, cheap clients. The rumours will fly that he is on a mission to sell it, but selling it has always been on his mind. Not a full-press sale. More of an idea if someone offered a good price. It is also a good way to get a business visa to live in the country in peace. Now he is married, he can get a better visa.

yummyj comments on Tix for Colombia - Ecuador match Medellin Sep 5 Probably? No, that is wrong. There is one place selling tickets. It is behind EXITO Laureles. There is a small strip mall, on the corner is a travel agency. This place sells them. You get a reservation and go back to pick up the tickets the day before the match. Not sure if pre-sale is over. You'd have to go there Monday and enquire. No idea if more tickets will be sold at the box office. But because these tickets are bing sold in a different fashion, you had better find out and not rely on rumour or hope.
