YTO SAN comments on Credit Card and ATM fees I have my wells fargo bank card linked to my Credit Card from wells fargo and they've never charged me for foreign currency conversion, nor ATM usage. have been with wells fargo for over 15 yrs

YTO SAN comments on Medelin is now infested with gringos :( There is prepagos everywhere you go, Personally I think jelsaad is out of line with the comments. So you want to get rid of turists in Medellin?. does not matter the purpose of the turists they help in many ways the economy of a city or country, if you don't want mongers in your city, make prepagos illegal and have them chased by the police, so you'll have more population in your jails and 1 less income in some homes. Think!!!!! not every turist that goes to Medallo is looking for sex, there is a big majority of us that love that beautiful country and we keep going back to learn more of the wonderful Colombian people; like they're always happy and willing to help, something that you don't see very often in other countries. Make sense?

YTO SAN comments on Is travelling to Mexico the same as travelling to the US from Colombia? If you arrive by Air or Sea, yes you do need a passport. If you are driving into Mexico and just visiting the border towns less than 25 mi. into Mexican land you don't need a passport. if you are planning to go more than 25mi on a straight line from the border into Mexico you need passport and a permit.

YTO SAN comments on you only need 1 vonage box to feed up to 5 wall jacks in your house. make sure that in the outside phone box the wires comming from the phone company are disconnected; then hook up your vonage box to the wall jack and it will feed up the other jacks. you have to sign up in the US then take it to Medellin. make sure you check the speed of your ISP

Visa to the US will be easier I tried to get a visa for my Colombian Fiance 6 months ago, and let me tell you, it would be easier to get a tourist visa to the US than to Mexico, after all the paperwork was submitted they came back asking for a 5,000 USD deposit into the Mexican Military bank, they said it's just to ensure that you guys are leaving the country and not staying here; BS because a friend of mine in Mexico said that that deposit will be a lost money for sure.

What I know Lagotur is located in Santa Fe de Antioquia, there's pools in there and a lot to do, the weather is hot, there's a lot of partying going on in there. I think you will have a lot of fun in there, if you like hot weather it's nice because you can spend some time in the wonderful pools they have.

Vonage Vonagi works in Colombia (I know it works with EPM Banda Ancha en Medellin) Vonage only requires 90k to work properly and the total costs is about 26Dlls a month. you can get your GF to get a vonage account in the states and get the travel phone adaptor, it will be sent to her already programmed by Vonage and set up to be a travel adapter meaning you can use it anywhere in the world as long as you have an internet connection.

Vonage is also good but they just raised their per minute prices to celular phones in Colombia.

YTO SAN comments on Long distance telephone from Colombia Broadband It is high speed internet provided by EPM I believe, not dial up, it is Banda Ancha, my friend in Medellin has it and I sent him the Vonage box and he's been using it for a while and works great, when they call me here to the States calls are good quality and clear.

YTO SAN comments on Fiancee in Barranquilla My Advise If everybody is saying it, it must be true. remember her friends had known her for quite some time, and you met her only 3 months ago. I've been with my GF that lives in Medellin for quite some time now and she has never asked me for money, I know her financial situation is not very good and that sometimes she does not have a peso in her pocket but again, she has never asked me for money. when I'm in Medellin visiting her I always take care of her and buy stuff that I know she needs for school.

YTO SAN comments on Application Fees Not at all I've been asking bout attorney fees, and pretty much all fall into the same rate, which is $500 for the entire process for the fiancee visa, to this cost everyone I asked we have to add international postage fees, which can be done by you or your attorney. of course if you send it using your choice of company would be much cheaper, since the attorney's office will add time and travel to it.

YTO SAN comments on I need COLOMBIAN CURRENCY in NYC Currency Booth There should be a Foreign Exchange Currency Booth at the International gate. I've been in many international aiports here in the States and all of them so far have that booth. I've seen them in Las Vegas, Houston, Miami to mention some locations. I personally have use the one in Miami Intl Airport when I travel to Colombia. The currency exchange rates are very fair according to the official post.

Love Colombia Well Colombiche ask for a roll call, I'm not Colombian but I love Colombia (specially Medellin) I've been going to Medellin every year. I'm a Mexican/Japanese guy who loves Colombia more than even my own country which is Mexico (where I grew up). you can judge me good or bad, that's up to you, but the reality is that the first time I was in Medellin quede amañado, and people there always treated me very good and with respect. I have my girlfriend in Medellin and I will keep going every year to visit her (until she's ready to marry, LOL) but even if we get married I will still keep going back.

YTO SAN comments on Transferring money to Colombian Bank Accounts Money Gram I personally use Money Gram online transfer, the charge per transaction is $15 USD and can be picked up in Colombia at any Money Gram location (like Cambiamos, S.A.) the receiver does not get charged any fees, and the money is available no later than 30 mins. after you complete the online transaction.

Once I didn't knew Medellin at all. not even my first time in Medallo I felt in danger, people of Medellin is very friendly and respectful; of course you can get in trouble anywhere. For whoever wants to take it from a guy that visits Medellin very often, here it is, you don;t have to worry much in Medellin if you act like a normal person, don;t be the classic loud gringo and you will be safe anywhere.

I prefer Skype; Skype has made a big improvement in their quality and some adjustments in rates, making them cheaper. I can call Medallo for less than .9cents a min. but this is just my personal preference.

SKYPE I Recomend Skype, go to www.skype.com and download it, it's free to call pc to pc via skype, plus the rates to colombia are great. I call Medellin for less than .10 cents per minute. If you register as a US user you will get charged taxes. I registered as a user from Medellin and I buy credit (to call land and cell lines) using paypal, paypal has my us address on file but since I use paypal to pay skype, skype does not know that my credit card has a US address, so I got rid of the 15% tax (called VAR on skype)
