This is going to show my age....my very first concert was to see The Carpenters.

My friends and I met at one guy's house (we must have been 12 or 13 and there were about 6 of us), made a spaghetti dinner and caught the bus to the concert hall. Our parents picked us up at the end of the show.

I suppose I'll be the only person here who says this... The Philadelphia Orchestra. Standing in line for a couple hours before the concert to try to get one of the 150 $2 tickets to sit in the top balcony of the Academy of Music was a sort of rite of passage for music students in Philadelphia.

What Dan??? Never been to a concert? Wow! I'm sorry to hear about that!

GS .... You can't remember? You were probably in high school eh? America? Another one of my favorites. I know I saw them in concert in the mid-70's.

Bama ... Cool story. I recently saw the radio show "From the Top" and I'm sure many of those kids have similar first concert experiences.

Lcacique says on Apr 6, 2008, 12:07:

Humm...at around ten years old, my sis took me to a reggae concert (I believe it was Steel Pulse)...you can guess what that was like.

As for me going on my own to gigs, too many local and national punk bands to mention. Most would be unfamiliar to everyone here. I also went to more popular acts like Robert Plant, Crowded House (free), The Cult (numerous times), Social Distortion (numerous), Sonic Youth (numerous), Descendents, X (damn they were good), Jane's Addiction (numerous times), Soundgarden (numerous times), Red Hot Chili Peppers (back when the still had some spice), Nirvana (several times), Pearl Jam (before when they were called Mookie Blaylock, and several times after that),on and on and on.

That is all I did with my youth. If I wasn't playing shows I was going to them.

In fact, here's a show from '91 of a free outdoor Pearl Jam show in Seattle that me and some friends drove up to see. Hung out w/ the guys after the show for several hours, met Kim Thayil and Chris Cornell form Soundgarden, and got harrassed later that night for sleeping in a car in a Kmart parking lot in Renton or some other dump. Anyway, I am in the video. When McCready starts rippin his lead towards the end of the song I am over to the left w/ a black baseball cap on backwards that says "Electric Love Hogs" in white letters, w/ wrap around sunglasses, long hair and a light red flannel.

At this point, I'm not going to hold my breath. There really isn't anything/anyone out there that I would want to go to now.

Oh well.

De Pronto they still have concerts at Aztec Stadium. U2 sold out 2 nights there last year in like 30 minutes. They might not have many concerts there because outside of U2 I can't think of who could fill that place. It is huge. Funny thing their locker room looks likes a high school locker room. American professional athletes would never accept those conditions.

POP Mart tour - Foro Sol
Vertigo Tour - Aztec Stadium

"U2 sold out 2 nights there last year in like 30 minutes" It was very hard to get them... I could not be there for that reason LOL.

Regarding the locker room I don't know, I've never been in the Aztec Stadium =) Oh but I think that some American football players had had to use them LOL sometimes we do have some NFL match ball games

My second concert, sans parents, was in college (also in Knoxville)... NSYNC. My aunt paid me to take her daughter but I actually ended up having fun.

And finally, last but certainly not least, U2's Vertigo Tour in Salt Lake City.

the Buckinghams
the Dave Clark Five
America
Steely Dan
Yes
Pure Prairie League
Grover Washington, Jr.
the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra
the Richmond Symphony Orchestra
Dylan
the Replacements
the Black Crowes
Lou Reed
2 of the individuals who used to play with the Velvet Undergound, Mo Tucker was one, the other I can't remember the name, maybe John Cale
Sonic Youth

There were a bunch of others but my brain is dead right now, and likely nobody on pbh cares anyway. jaja

Unfortunatley, I've driven that section of interstate several times. Normally from I-81 down to Knoxville and then all the way over to Memphis on I-40. I hate driving long distances. Of course the roads in TN are usually ranked 1 or 2 in the USA so once you get over to Arkansas (ranked 49 or 50) you feel like you are driving on a dirt/gravel road compared to the relative smoothness of TN's roads.

hahaha travelingirl! Jordan was actually my favorite too. I loved his rat-tail! lol! My sister loved Joey and we also had a ton of NKTB paraphernalia...including the comforter set! Oh and I forgot to mention that we had to use binoculars too at the concert! So funny....and still embarrassing!

travelingirl says on Apr 7, 2008, 17:21:

Why am I not remembering Jordan's rat-tail?! I suppose I blocked that horrible memory from my mind. I HATE rat-tails. lol Do you remember back in 1999 when he came out with a single of his own? Oh, I had the blanket and sheetset, no comforter though. ha!

Yeah I do. it wasn't good at all. I remember it being played on MTV a few times, but I was not a fan. Then I believe Joey released a Gospel type album. I hear they reunited. I wonder how they'll do...

Wow, I haven't seen these guys in YEARS! Thanks for posting the picture, Natalia! Jordan, is still by far, the hottest one. LOL Donnie looks just like his brother Mark Wahlberg and I thought did a nice job acting in "Band of Brothers", and Danny over on the right looks better than he used to I suppose. My friends and I nicknamed him "monkey face" in elementary school. I know, so cruel. Ok, I just "googled" them and I can't believe "little Joey" is 35! Apparantly they are going on tour again...

lc I don't know what era that I saw the Placemats. I was always just the photographer, taking shots for my writer friend's articles. We got to meet alot of at the time famous people, at least famous at the time. We met the Indigo Girls, but when I tried to ask questions, they just sort of looked at me like, "aren't you supposed to be taking pictures?" so I just took pictures. I could have made a career out of doing that, but it would have been grueling, and I am not so much into just being into and around the stars. They are very demanding.

admittedly, arriving can feel great too

I think my first concert was Inner Circle (if anyone even knows them), I went with my mum, a friend from school and her mum. I must've been 8-9 ish.

"The Police" at Hatfield Polytechnic, England in 1980 when I was 17.
Had tickets for me and my girlfirend, who dumped me the week before, so I went with a mate and we found two new girlfriends instead. I've had a soft spot for students ever since.
Oh, and I remember that my ears were ringing for about three days afterwards.

My first concert was the "Tragically Hip". You've never heard of them, but they are big around here. No one believes they played at my high school in 1987 -- or that our student council lost $2,000 on them since I was one of only eleven people who showed up.

Of course I know of the "Tragically Hip." They are probably Canada's biggest band not to break in the states. I mean shit, even Eric's Trip has a pretty good following amongst the lo-fi/indie crowd. And who can forget Loverboy and Cory Hart, jajaja...

The concert I had an opportunity to see but didn't go to - that I regret not going to - was the first U2 Zooropa gig in Miami in March of 1992. We were there for spring break and my buddy was able to get tickets. That was the first stop in their world tour. Oh well.
