why lock the afghan thread?

while i might agree with you desi, that religious intolerance has no place in the modern world and I personally would never judge somebody on that basis. I didn't see any reason to lock that thread. religion is not my cup of tea, but I think it is still a legitimate subject for discussion and should not be censored because we might disagree with some of the points of view.

I've moved this topic now. I think I already explained my reasons. That thread was only going downhill from there. Hate speech against any religion or any ethnic group or race is certainly not anything I would promote on PBH.

I'm locking this thread at this point. I find LDW's position extremely intolerant and provocative, but since it is not directed personally at any other poster here it can't be considered ad hominem and I won't delete it. However, I deem it totally pointless to discuss religion in an atmosphere of hatred and intolerance.

If this is the case, you should lock every thread- since everyone has different opinions about every topic, and "it might seem totally pointless" to discuss anything of intellectual value.

Desi you seem to be very similar to Castro with your depriving freedom of speech!!

LDW..I agree with you. Also keep in mind that if two individuals don't agree, it doesn't necessarily mean that they can't share other things in common!!

I didn't see any reason to close the other thread, but as you can see it seems that freedom of speech isn't allowed here...

thanks for pointing out all the above information...pithy that a moderator doesn't act as a professional moderator!

I have my own take on religious intolerance and have little love for Islam extremism or it's expansion in Europe, but as a matter of policy I can't promote this type of hate mongering here. Take it as you will: in my country there are laws against hate crimes and I have to follow my own conscience on this one.

mr. ldw...i think you who are so damn well read need to revert to the whole thread and use, "your words" not mine...i made no comment that rape/murder was ok you did.

i never said anyone/thing/being was my GOD, my prophet..you did. and you took it upon your "well read" self to belittle me based on your words. you belittle GOD which you cannot substantiate with scripture...and you are as those you criticise, narrow minded, bigoted and a most condescending person. ready at the drop of a hat to belittle what others may or maynot believe in. it's your way or the hyway.

your constant haranguing that you know this and you know that and you read this and you read that. really? you must confuse me with someone who cares what you've read. but don't confuse me with someone who doesn't care how you address others and their faiths.

because i do. i feel...not read... that people should show a good, caring heart. i see none of that in you. i profess nothing out of literature, rather, out of living...works. is life judged by words, or works. don't tell me, show me.

Are you kidding? Desi and JD do not have the slightest idea what is FREEDOM OF SPEECH!!!
When I was a member of co.blog I had over 5 threads locked and none of them had a single violation that justified their great ignorance to lack said threads!
I’ve saved all the threads in case someone would like to review them.

with this thread in mind (afghan runner) we are wrong to take desi to task. I was the one who reported the abuse of priveledge on that thread.

having an opinion about one's beliefs or opinions thereof, is one thing, to chastise and belittle is something else.

all of you are encouraged to re read that thread before assuming any particular posture re- garding a defense of free speech. for in that thread mr ldw takes unwarranted liberty to belittle and insult others, their beliefs and convictions. not in the sense of dialogue or discourse, but rather, to me, to prove some sense of great posture. i ask all of you, what does this prove?

we all know and in our own ways have a respect for the eccentricities of rubito. however, when did rubi dress down someone? belittle them? on the contrary, when talking with him, one finds him disarming and only in defense of his particular posture. not by talking alot of crap about how much he knows. what he's read, what "proofs" he has, etc, etc, etc, adnauseum.

i rest.

Yes Desi, but discussions on here should not be subject to the laws of YOUR country or your conscience. As long he wasn't violating any of the rules of the board, your personal feelings about the subject should be irrelevant.

billy, i can't find this thread......it says 'no such post' , if it was demoted, can you give me a link?

i can find some of the comments by going into user comments, but i''d like to read the whole thing.

i think it could be a good discussion as long as no physical threats or namecalling.

i'm on agnostic/atheist sites all the time and it can get rough but the threads can survive as long as the rules are obeyed.

Sweden indeed criminalizes hate mongering against ANY minority group (ethnic, racial, religious) and I, after reading the exchange between Douglas and LDW deemed that Douglas was right; there was no doubt in my mind that LDW intended to ignite the sentiments of the readers against Islam as a religion and the tone of his posting was provocative and malicious.

I'm no friend of Islam expansion in Europe and object their demands for special treatment in the countries where they have settled in Europe, especially since they do not grant this same courtesy to Christian Europeans that settle in their countries. Much ill is done and has been done in the name or gods and religion and Islam is one of the worst in that sense.

As moderator I had to make a decision about that thread as I was requested and perhaps it was not the best one but I believe it served its purpose.
