why do colombians think the USA is the best country to live in

I ask myself, living here in Miami, the same question. A Cuban family whose house I go to often related their American Journey via Madrid, Spain. The whole family(parents, 3 sons) left Cuba in the early 80s and went to Spain. There, they got a great hand up in the form of subsidized Medical care through Spain's Universal Healthcare system. They received free public transit passes as well as Subsidized Rent. No Langauge barrier as they have in the USA. After 4 years they decided to come to the Epicenter of all things Cuban, Miami, Florida. Fast forward 20 years, the One son who remained behind in Spain with his Wife is now a District Supervisor for UPS and earns big $$$. His wife, who had a Teaching degree from a Cuban University, easily revalidated her Cuban University courses in Spain and is a Teacher cetified to teach in Spain. Very transparent process. Now, the Boys in Miami who never learned English, are relegated to living in Opa Locka, a not so toney barrio in NW Miami where Gunshots are heard every night. The 2 brothers who live in Miami have Minimum salary jobs like School Bus drivers, jitney drivers, ect. And they do not speak English so they are stuck in these crummy jobs. I see many others coming from south america to Miami and they are stuck in the same boat as these 2 brothers.No English and to get a Job of any substance, even here in Miami, you need to know English. Seems like Spain offers a much brighter future for Latinos over 25(due to NO langauge barrier) as the major obstacle, learning the Langauge is a moot issue. Not to mention, healthcare and public transportation are not problems like they are here in Miami. As my Idol below says People do Tom Fool crazy things and are fooled,,,

In reality it is not this guy’s fault that he does what he does. He has been allowed to do for a long time and was defended until Peter or someone else stepped in. I can't believe anybody can take that comment seriously. While I have no idea of Peter's political leanings (he's the one running the show, we others are just helping to do it) I don't see any posts, comments or topics written by him with the purpose of "denigrating Americans". You don't see any posts written by me denigrating Americans either. The only thing that we do that might irritate you in that sense is that we allow a wide spectrum of political debate and there's always room for expressing your thought and ideas here.

there are two sets of rules here; one for europeans and one for americans.

As for Peter, I put this in a PM some time ago and he did not answer my email........as well as now we have yet another european based moderator.

There will never be perfect balance here but there is a lot of room for improvement.

I don't know much about Peter but I do know he's lived and worked in the US (I think he started his own IT consulting business in NYC). Desi and Kat1 have close family members that are long term residents, if not citizens of the US, so it seems kind of odd to say the site owner and two moderators from Europe have an automatic anti-US bias.

People on this site bitch about the way things are in Colombia, Venezuela, the US, Canada, Western Europe and Scandinavia or about the politicians in those countries.
