why cant we create changes in our lives

last time i put this post up it got deleted so here goes again...we seem to find it so hard to create change in our lives. WHY. i want to leave my job but know going in to another field would be so hard. i have seen so many people retrain and not get jobs after as employers know that qualifications mean nothing and experience is every thing....i think when you get to middle age you should be self employed as having a boss is for younger people...someone left a wonderful quote from a book before please leave it again...

also often we say we dont know what we want but in truth i think that is a lie because deep down we do know but for years we have covered up our real wants as we think we cant have them

formerly pow wow then american..wether you think you can or cant you are right

desi said that often things she wanted when she got them she did not want them....but whenever you get what you want many things will not ahve that much menaing because we r naturally programmed that once we ahve one thing we need to go to our next thing....the journey of getting things may be the most important.....there is a saying that god punishes people by answering all their prays....if u could get every thing u wanted with no effort it would all be so meaningless...

i've come to believe that it's far better to want what you have, than to have what you want.

but if what you have is damaging your health you have to let it go

also we are never meant to stay in one place: example when little we play with toys but when older we move on

i feel that going to work each day is like a form of hypnotism...wake up go to work...wake up go to work...wake up go to work...do that 1000 times and the pattern you are following is going to hypnotis you as you know nothing else after a 1000 days and it becomes hard to imagine doing any thing else...then you need a very deep and strong belief you can do some thing else

You need money to make a viable change.

The older I have gotten the more I believe it may actually be the oposite,

That's good to know. Tell us more...

While I don't want to live the remainder of my life without plenty of money it does seem to make prisoners of us. We get to the point where we cannot do without the "things" money can buy.

Then we spend the first part of our lives protecting those "things" and the last part of our lives getting rid of them.

slguy says on May 12, 2008, 14:36:

the solution is - live on a sailboat! ya don't have room for all that garbage.

OTOH, boat toys (electronics, etc) ain't cheap. :(

yes we become slaves to the things that we have but we do need many of those things

formerly pow wow then american..wether you think you can or cant you are right

tonyblair says on May 13, 2008, 03:17:

so the q is how can we have things and not be slaves...a mortgages enslaves you for 25 years but we need a house....or should we buy caravans if we want to move around and be free....maybe they should sell houses with wheels on them... after all why do you want to live in the same place all the time

formerly pow wow then american..wether you think you can or cant you are right

kalder says on May 13, 2008, 04:38:

You won't be very free in that caravan if you haven't got a job.

kalder says on May 13, 2008, 04:39:

Perhaps you could sell white heather or mend frying pans.

"kalder- have you ever had a woman?"--Sam Salmon

kalder says on May 13, 2008, 04:44:

Houses with wheels is a good idea though. Think how many wheels you'd need! It'd do wonders for the wheel industry.

And you could harness your house to teams of sturdy teenagers, who could haul you around the countryside- keeping themselves out of the unemployment statistics, while you corner the market in kettle repair and fortune telling.

"kalder- have you ever had a woman?"--Sam Salmon

kalder says on May 13, 2008, 04:46:

Perhaps you wouldn't need to pay them either. Then, instead of being slaves to mortgage repayment, they could be slaves to another person's house.

"kalder- have you ever had a woman?"--Sam Salmon

kalder says on May 13, 2008, 04:48:

And maybe slguy could use some of those teenagers as galley slaves, to keep down costs and let him spend more money on boaty electronics.

Perhaps in winter, when it's a bit choppy out there, he could have some wheels attached to his boat...

That's enough from me.

slguy says on May 13, 2008, 05:57:

my teenaged sons often accuse me of enslavement on "boat cleaning" day. they recover fairly quickly once the saiils get hoisted...:)

Because you need money.

but you dont let not having money stop you

formerly pow wow then american..wether you think you can or cant you are right

kalder says on May 13, 2008, 11:31:

Not having money will stop you from changing your life in the following ways:

1. Retraining for a more satisfying career.
2. Retiring early.
3. Starting a business.
4. Acquiring a mistress.

Without much money, I daresay you could:

1. Adopt a healthy lifestyle.
2. Take up religion.
3. Involve yourself in local community projects.
4. Acquire an autodidactic education.

I know I've been taking the piss, but I do empathise with you. You do a demanding and often thankless job; you have a lot of responsibilities; and you're at the age when a man starts to ask himself 'is this all there is?'

What do you think you can do to change your life tony?

i think to change your life you need to know what you want...if you can do that you can really go for change but if you dont know what you want i think you are very lost as you need to be determined to suceed and to do that you ahve to really want some thing

aztec says on May 13, 2008, 13:41:

tony I think you are just afraid. Stop fooling around and do what makes you happy. That appears to be some kind of career change. Life is way too short.

tonyblair says on May 14, 2008, 02:53:

i odnt know what would make me happy and even if i did it depends on if you end up with the right people,,,because even if you do something you love if you are not doing it with the right people it willl be no good

tonyblair says on May 14, 2008, 10:14:

if we could just imagine our life changing in the way we wanted i think that would be a big help because it is so hard for us just to imagine leading a completely diffrent life...imagine living in a big house with a swimming pool near to the sea front....imagine running your own business and making a fortune...well thousands of people came from nothing and are doing those things....but because it is hard to imagine...we have to start imagining that we could do it before we take steps to create change
