Okay I will lay out a plan and I will discuss it with my congressman. Y'all read and constructively critique.
First of all; I liked a lot of what Obama said about healthcare reform during his campaign, I didn't vote for him. Most of it was campaign media babble and the parts I liked have not been mentioned very much since then.
First of all; why is health insurance tied to your employer? It shouldn't be! The fact is all the large employers in the USA are self insured. Sure you have a Federated Healthcare Card; but, they are just paid administrators. Why is that? Hmmmm? The employers are making/saving money. Period.
Is your home owners insurance policy tied to your employer? Is your automobile insurance tied to your job?
I think the definitions should be regulated and applied on a uniform nationwide basis.
I do think you should be entitled to elect different levels of coverage; but that they should be uniform and part of the CFR.
Then if your employer wants to be noble and provide your premium so be it. At least then you would truly know what you are getting. You don't now.
It should be a transparent process and you should know in a matter of nano seconds what a medical consequence in you life is going to cost you out of pocket. This is something Obama pushed during his campaign and you just don't really hear much about it. It really should be delivered as fast as your internet connection will allow.
I think minors and students should be guaranteed to have the best of the best coverage at the most reasonable rates.
I do think that lifestyle choices should be rewarded for good results or rated for at risk catagories. I.E. smokers pay more, obese persons pay more, drinkers pay more etc. I think the at risk catagories should only be those that are metricable and should be monitored on an annual basis as part of a required annual physical. Drunk drivers or bad drivers pay more for their actions that make them high risks, why shouldn't health insurance.
What did I miss?

scumbuster says on Sep 20, 2009, 05:44: Do I think insurance companies need some blame here? sure do, but I don’t see the huge profits here many seem to think they are making. Most work with about a 3% profit margin. Its kinda the same as people blaming the oil companies for raking in the money. (its the speculators) But its a fairly normal rate of return. They have huge money outlays and by the very size of these companies it sounds like a lot of profit, but when you look at the percentages its about normal for most corporations. You don’t see investors running to buy stock in Blue Cross because there are many companies making higher rates of return. There needs to be more regulation to make them cover preexisting conditions and so they cant drop you if you get sick, but if that was taken care of that isn’t much you can criticize. I think opening the insurance market across state lines would help. I have no idea why the Dems are so against that. And Tort reform could drastically cut costs.
