That's some sick and crazy stuff CB, I'm sorry that you had to experience this first hand....

I'm in agreement that further security should be put in place on PBH and that he who is guilty should definitely be dealt with... Ignoring the issue doesn't fix it...

People who do these twisted things, are a danger to all of those in contact... It's just as bad as if someone broke into your house.... Your life is tainted from the moment it happens and you are exposed...

Colombiche is telling the truth, I witnessed the whole thing. I was one of the people who received an e-mail with the contensts of her inbox. At this point, I'm not willing to point a finger in any direction; there's circumstancial evidence that the person is also a memebr of this forum; a name has come up, but we're looking into it.

Anyway, this is something that happened...what, a couple of years ago. Nothing after that.

This is real and it can happen to anybody and it doesn't mean she wasn't taking security measures or doing anything to deserve it.

The owner of the other blog had evidence that he collected overtime that he shared with the owner of this site at one point in time.

What needs to be done to escalate the serious security concerns on the forum?....

It doesn't take a genius to figure out who the person on PBH is since he keeps posting on this thread...and apparently wants to be exposed....

Kat, this is an aside, but to avoid those problems, use the free Firefox browser(http://www.mozilla.com/firefox). Then download the NoScript and AdBlock Plus extensions from the "add-ons" section of that same site. These things keep ads and scripts from running on your browser without your specific consent. This will avoid things like viruses and spyware from being placed on your computer. Obviously, a current anti-virus program is also essential.

ColombianoGringo says on Apr 4, 2008, 11:23:

You really should download NoScript. It is free in the add-ons section and will automatically block any scripts. This is usually how mal-ware is placed on your PC through the browser. You can exempt sites that you trust and allow the others on a case by case basis. However, this will not help if you download a file that has a virus or trojan in it. For that, you need a good anti-virus. Also, make sure to use either Yahoo or Gmail with the web interface for your email and avoid Outlook Express like the plague. Yahoo and Gmail scan all attachments before allowing you to download them.

aztec says on Apr 4, 2008, 11:27:

kat1, download the NoScript and AdBlock Plus extensions from the "add-ons" section for the Firfox brower(as per CG). They will slow it down a little but it is a fair trade off.

Most folks here are not in a position to say whether the claims are unsubstantiated or not. I am not. I tend to give more sensible posters the benefit of the doubt.

I think Msaucey's analogy is very valid. If Colombiche said she was hacked, I would believe her. If this is the case, it would indeed appear that there is a serious security problem. If the hacker posted here and the other moderators did not take that problem seriously, I would share Colombiche's concerns. More so if this problem spilled over into my real life.

As for people taking the board too seriously, some posters seem to harrass the mods more than others, and to carry grievances to the point of sending off e-mails defending their point of view to people they do not know.

I don't know how the thread about freedom expression turn into this one.....

As I said I am all for freedom of expression, but this is different from hacking someone email or account then it is not freedom of expression is a criminal act,and a coward one....

I posted this on another thread and it fits here as well.
Why can't folk on here get it through there heads. It is what it is. If you don't like it here LEAVE. Why in the world would you let an internet Fourm get to ya. Why do you folks come on here and post personal things about yourself and not expect it to come back at some point. And if you don't like it here just leave without all the drama. As for internet security don't have anything on your computer you don't want the rest of the world to see. There are smart folks out there who will worm their way into any computer they set there minds to wanting to get into so if you have personal information on your computer don't you dare cry when someone puts it out there for all to see and use against you. Note to all, YOUR COMPUTER IS NOT SECURE !!!!!! As much as we would like this site to be all warm and fuzzy it's not and it's not going to change anytime soon. So act accordinly.

Eywed, that's ridiculous. I don't believe in "blame the victim" mentalities.

If someone hacks into your e-mail and sends malicious e-mails to your friends and business associates, this is a crime in many places. It is a gross violation of good taste and acceptable behaviour everywhere.

This is by no means the same as getting upset because someone disagrees with you about whether you can get good mozzarella in Medellin, or having personal stuff on your computer, and it is independent of what blogs and websites you enjoy.

If someone hacks into your computer, you have every right to be offended. If it happened to you, damn straight you'd be upset and crying out.

MT - I do blame the victim because if you leave yourself wide open by having an address book in your computer or pass words saved in your computer shame on you. Better put if you have anything you dont want the world to see on your computer don't logg on to the internet There is a good chance you will get hacked so limit your exposisure if you do use the internet. Thats part of being a responsible person. But seem nobody wants to be responsible for there own actions.
Yes it is a crime to hack someone but try getting much resolve from reporting it.
Instead of being offended by someone hacking into your computer one should expect it and protect themself in the event it does. More of a matter of when it will happen not a matter of if it will happen.
As for me MT , you do not know me so you don't no what my response will be. Pissed yes , Cry out , Not over something that I know could happen as a result of me using the internet. Price of using the internet plain and simple. I know the risk so why am I going to cry out and waist my breath.

MT - The environment is what it is here and as I said before I don't see it changing so why fuss or get upset when you know this.
It would be like me going to Colombia and not liking the crime. I go there knowing the risk and knowing I can't change it but I can sure choose not to go or if I do, protect myself. Should something happen I will not cry out I knew the risk.

Man Tequila says on Apr 7, 2008, 13:08:

No one is trying to change reality.

One should act responsibly, and I personally don't save my passwords, and use protective software. But a year ago someone took a substantial amount of money from a bank account since there was a copier on an ATM machine I had used. After much hassle, the bank paid me back.

Did I feel violated? Of course I did. And though I got paid back, the hassle involved was considerable. I'm still annoyed about it. I could protect myself by not using a cajero again. But there are limits to responsibility, it is reasonable for me to want to use an ATM and reasonable for a business person to have e-mail addresses of their friends and the people they need to contact.

The person who committed this fraud had the audacity to call me up. I was able to keep them on the phone for ten minutes while giving them fake phish, and was able to call the phone company and police on another line. But I don't know if anything came of that or not.

There is also a difference if the person can or cannot be identified. Yeah, the environment here, or in Colombia or anywhere is what it is. Change does not come from staying silent about things that are wrong.

I have diagnosed many people with lung cancer. Most of these folks smoked heavily most of their lives. They cry when I tell them why they are having trouble breathing, wheezing, coughing up blood. These guys "knew the risk", and this gives them no consolation. You might think they deserved it. I think, instead, people deserve our compassion.

What is difficult to understand? Colombiche thinks Webmanco broke into her account on Colombianblog (or possibly her private e-mail). Colombiche thinks Webmanco then took her private communications and sent them to others on Colombianblog. Colombiche believes she figured out via PBH that Webmanco was actually the one who did it because of something he said on PBH. Colombiche asked Peter to do something about it. Peter said he was looking into the claim. Colombiche felt that Peter was not moving fast enough or was not doing anything. Colombiche left PBH. That is strictly from memory when I read this thing a week ago. If I am wrong, please correct me. In the mean time, I ask again - what is so difficult to understand?
