Great day on the bond market (September, 2008 ---30 year T bond future) today. Three trades....10 points, 18 points, and 10 points on three trades.....at $31.25 per point, less $3.54 round turn commission on each trade.

Great week actually......picked up 26 points on Wednesday on one trade.

I wish I could figure out a system on Trade Station for stock index futures. I do well on the bonds, but have not figured out a system for those damned indices. I lose money when I trade them.

I am sticking to the bonds. That way, I don't have to give a hoot which way the stock market goes.

I am also short one March 09 Eurodollar contract at 96.77. That is not a day trade, but a position trade, and I am up 8 and half points on that ($25 per point). Chart says that short term interest rates will rise. Stop is at 97.10.

LDW, how come you don't just trade the index futures as an option? You don't have to day trade it and i think playing with XBD, it is relatively less risky..........although i don't want to kid anyone, ...there is still a lot of risk there.

You''ve explained to me once before about the bonds but i don't think i have the time to try and learn that. although i have one etf like that, TLT, and i'm shorting it. i bet you don't like that idea but it is barely in the money and i have until december until it expires.

Strange thing is...I am doing fine on individual stocks, especially companies in capital intensive businesses, like Alcoa, but I really suck at trading the index futures. Maybe it's because I set my stops too tight.

The bond futures trend really well, and the Eurodollar future (an interest rate future, not a currency future, as the name might imply) also trends well. When Greenspan was cutting rates back in 2000 and 2001, I tripled my investment position trading that futures contract. I used my profits from that to try to establish a model on Trade Station to Trade the index futures, and gave back about half my winnings.

Right now, my Trade Station indicators are bearish on the Eurodollar, suggesting that the market expects interest rates on short-term money to increase.

I am going to stick with what makes me $$$$'s.

gringoloid......Sorry...I forgot to mention...I am short.......as I suggested in my comment of July 18, in which I said the indicators were bearish.

I am short the March 09 contract at 96.77. Last I checked earlier today (I do not follow it minute by minute), the future was at 96.59, which puts me 18 points ahead ($25 per point).

You can check the daily close at www.cme.com to monitor my progress (or lack thereof) on the trade.

This could be a precursor to a new upward move in the stockmarket, as the bonds and eurodollar on the one hand, and the stock indices on the other, usually (but not always) trend in opposite directions.

Bonds have been trending down recently.

LDW says on Jul 24, 2008, 16:14:

Bad news on Ford today sent stock investors to the exits, and there was a big run up on bonds. Classic day where bonds and stocks went in opposite directions.

I am on the losing side of that Eurodollar trade now. I am 7.5 points offside as we speak ($187.50) But it hasn't hit my stop yet.

I went long the bonds on news about Ford...one trade, going long.....24 points....made $750.

LDW says on Jul 25, 2008, 10:59:

BTW....bonds tanked today...I missed the big move because I overslept....but I still picked up $250.

Longer term trend for bonds looks bearish, as it still does for the Eurodollar...which suggests that interest rates will go up.
