I think the British version is darker and a tad funnier; but the US one is more nuanced and the characters more appealing.
I love them both. Wonderful comedy.

kalder says on Jun 30, 2008, 00:39: I read that Series 1 of the US version was rubbish- it wasn't much more than a slavish adaptation of the UK one and it just didn't work. But the writers made the subsequent ones very much their own and with much greater success. I've seen Series 2 (first on cable in Colombia, then rented online here) and I found it delightful.
