The Most Deadliest Job(s) in the USA

#1 WORKING ON CELL PHONE TOWERS!
Those who construct, upgrade, and repair cell phone towers. 183.6 deaths per 100,000 workers: Five tower workers died during one 12-day span earlier this year alone. 18 tower workers died on the job in 2006. The cause for the increase in tower worker deaths?.. a combination of poor workplace safety and network operators pushing to build out and upgrade their networks too quickly.

OK - so now the others? ...according to a 2006 report (guess it takes a bit to crunch the #'s)

(According to the BLS, BTW)

So much for supply and demand...they seem to care more about delivering the product.

The reason I thought I'd share this info was when I noted the types of jobs listed. Hmmm
Not sure about you and your area, but the majority of these jobs listed are many times held by illegal residents or people struggling to gain residency in the US....gives you an idea of how important it is to them and/or they are taken advantage of (because they can).....not much pay for putting your life on the line. I was suprised they didn't list the CHP or Law Enforcement.

Very interesting. Compared to the UK, the salaries seem very low (except for the pilots). I wonder how much the difference is offset by the comparative cost of living.

Those must be some really broad categories. The Farmer and Rancher salaries are way too low and probably the garbage collectors, too. I think Fishermen do OK and even some of the crew members (if "Deadliest Catch" is accurate) but the average is probably reduced by the assembly line workers who de-gut the little fishies.

What about the crabbers up at the north-west tip of Alaska? That show on TV looks pretty convincing.

Yes,I agree - always that way when they post salaries that represent the Nation. It amazes me how low some can look. Depends on the State you are from.

They must be pegged too low. If you doubled them, you'd reach a figure closer to the British equivalent. That can't be true, surely?

Kalder - Has been a long time since I have been there and I have not kept up with the comaprisons. But I do recall when I was there, the cost of living to be substantially higher in the UK (almost double) and the income to be higher too. The only difference was "what" job type paid a higher salary.

At the time I was there I was going to college and working part time at a hospital and as a DJ/newscaster. I recall I would have made more money in the UK as a Radio DJ than working in the medical field. In addition to my voice type and my American accent would be cosidered quite the selling point. Totally the opposite in the US at that time in regards to these professions.
