The city town where you were born

Would be nice to post the city or town where YOU were born.

I was born in Planeta Rica Cordoba, i lived there until I was 6 or 7 years old then my parents moved to Bogota, but I used to spent all my holidays there at my grandparents house we had such a great time with my cousins. I still have lots of family living there, my grandparents unfortunately are dead now. ;(((

JÄMSÄ - PAPER, AVIATION AND TOURISM
Jämsä is a thriving provincial town beside Lake Päijänne. It offers the benefits of high quality services and a beautiful and varied rural environment. In the Middle Ages Jämsä and the neighbouring districts formed an administrative parish where hunting and fishing were the main sources of livelihood. On a bank of the River Jämsä an old Viking settlement has been discovered. Today the centre of Jämsä together with the Kaipola sub-centre and UPM-Kymmene Industrial Park, form a continuous ribbon of built-up area along the banks of the River Jämsä. The Halli sub-centre is located in the area of Kuorevesi, the municipality incorporated into Jämsä town since 2001.

Jämsä is nowadays noted for its modern pulp and paper industry and high-tech aviation industry. Jämsä offers good opportunities for recreation and tourism, both in winter and summer. The countryside provides good opportunities for recreation. A network of hiking and skiing tracks is available for everyone to use. There are marked routes for guided or unaccompanied canoeing, cycling, hiking and riding tours. The ski slopes at the Himos skiing centre are kept open until May Day. Hilly terrain and gravel roads have made the Jyväskylä Suurajot/Neste Rally Finland a great event for spectators.

In summer Lake Päijänne provides good opportunities for touring by water. From Jämsä town centre one can travel along the idyllic River Jämsä to Lake Päijänne. The Päijänne sailing race is the most important sailing competition in inland waters.

Jämsä has a flourishing cultural life. The summer theatres in the sub-region are especially active. Kivipankki (Stone Bank in English), the Jämsä sub-region's oldest bank building, has been rebuilt as a small and friendly exhibition and concert venue. More and more art and other events are also being organized in the summer by the banks of the River Jämsä.

LC, those pictures are stunning!

I was born in Washington CD. That's County Durham in England, original seat of the Washington family, as in George.
Washington Hall, the old manor house , is a shrine to Georgey Boy for US tourists, but used to be split into tenaments and was almost demolished during the 1930's. The original village is quaint, but the rest of it is a sprawling cesspit. Used to be a big coal mining area. People are very nice and friendly though.
The Washington Coat of Arms consists of three stars above two red stripes on a white background and is said to have given the idea of the Stars and Stripes of the US flag.

Britabroad, I googled your hometown and found out that the name Washington is probably of Viking origin. It is said the the only trace the vikings left in your country was some place names and the names of the days of the week.

Several years on and off as a little kid. We also lived in Germany for a while. We didn't really settle in the US until right before I started school. After we moved to the US and up until I was in high school, most summers I would get shipped off to Colombia the week after school ended and came back a week before it started.

TG is correct...my Mother was born and raised in Japan....my father was born and raised in Hawaii. Mom came over after being arranged to marry my Dad. I was born in Hawaii 9 months later.

Dan - Big Island is beautiful because of its diversity (hot and dry to cold and wet, and everything in between). My favorite island is Kauai. Molokai is the best if you want to see very little development. Maui is gorgeous, but it's overrun by tourists (IMHO).

houstongal says on Apr 29, 2008, 20:27:

Well, they're still together after 48 years. Although growing up I always knew that they didn't fit together at all. They have nothing in common.

But Mom stuck it through. She's even 12 years younger than Dad. She was a good Japanese wife (much like many Colombian wives?).

The funny thing is that Dad was supposed to marry her older sister, who declined. Thus Mom got married instead. The coolest thing is their wedding photo. Full Japanese dress and hair for both of them.

by that, I mean that I think we are sortof prewired to what we are drawn toward in a mate, Haven't you noticed that people always seem to attract the same types, though at the onset of their new relationships, they never see the similarities to their previous partners, but it all comes out later?

more fortunately, i have been to the lion's share of the interesting places ya'll have mentioned that you were born in.

stats: 12:30 a.m. wartime. dec. 27th, 1942. named after gen. douglas wayne macarthur. i guess they felt that if they 'hawkafied' me from the gate, i'd be good to go from thence forth. i guess it worked, for a small guy, i got big ballz...worked all over the world in some real shitholes, always alone. worked out, i'm still on the right side of the grass.

was never fear driven, just figured that the worse someone can do is kill me....sooo? nobody gets outta here alive, anyway. si o no
