Ohh Douglas, I am starting to feel like the center filling of an oreo cookie, jeje

If not the above? Of course there are many things. But this was a recommendation of some close friends. Guess it increases your sample size, hehe. Funny how people make suggestions of things they have never tried though.
The other option was to move to Seattle. Ja! This worked for them, as they tried this and it worked faabulously. Okie. dokie.

it's like one day i told my oldest daughter, mira-bai, to turn down the radio. she harkened back from her bedroom..."...dad, if it's too loud, you're too old." thus she.

Why not try it and see if it works for you? I married pre- the speed dating era so no personal insights on this topic although I did read an interesting magazine article about it. Seems people meet for a short date like lunch just to see of they hit it off and have any interest in a follow-up date.

CatGirl says on Jun 14, 2008, 19:22:

Thanks Portena....almost sounds like you know as much as I do about it , jejej

Actually, I am not too interested in it, but was curious. Again, it is the topic of discussion these days. Several months ago I called one of those agencies just to see what it was about and it felt like a scam. Similar to those "come to a time share seminar from hell and win a free DVD and a trip to ?" - They insist you come in (and would never tell you the cost, but go on and on about what they will do for you) very, very pushy BTW.

Again, only curious about others' experiences - not interested in outfits like that, UNO.

Catgirl go for it. Sounds like a fun way to kill time or meet people. You can't know if its your cup of tea unless you try it. One thing though: If you do it, you must tell us all about it.

hahaha... I guess that would work too if your approach to life is slightly tarantinoesque. But I'm thinking what fun is it if they cannot speak? wait...a date who does not speak...I do all the talking, the choosing, the planning...me me me me me.... I kinda like that. :)

Web, amor - I am having a little trouble with the translation of your last comment. ;)) I think I understand it, but maybe not.;))

CK: If it is connected to an operation that is like a timeshare scam, no thanks. As I said, they require I go a long distance to sit and listen to their offers before discussing $$ - This sounds like a rip off. I also find it interesting how people have heard of it yet I have not met one person who has tried it. I would prefer to pass, but if I change my mind I will share my experience with others..jeje - I bet they make you sign a contract about 1/2 the thickness of buying a house (sorry, just a bit strange they will not discuss cost!) ;))

Well Catgirl, am sure you could try other venues. Speed dating is a big thing in Europe and somehow I've only seen it in American Movies...but here in london they do it in clubs or hotels and it all seems pretty straight forward. If i was single, I would totally do it...just for kicks

CatGirl says on Jun 16, 2008, 11:14:

Yep CK - agree

But it's like this....you hear about this great car everyone is talking about, you see it on TV, movies etc...but never see anyone driving it on the road. You ask around and no one you know owns one or knows someone that owns one. You go online and you cannot get specifics on it, only that a salesperson will contact you. You talk with the saleperson and they give you a sales pitch - but will never give you exacts or any idea of the cost. They just tell you to come in and talk about it.....sounds like they cornered the market on this car jejeje

is this 'speed dating' something akin to a 'quickie'? like, 'slam-bam-thank-you-mam'?

dwmte

CatGirl says on Jun 16, 2008, 11:56:

Douglas- 'quickie'? like, 'slam-bam-thank-you-mam'?

Speed dating is "supposed" to be a forum where people (especially busy ones) can meet for a very short time, ask questions etc.. and if interested they leave a message of some sort. If the other person feels the same they contact them. The point is that all involved "know" the deal.

There is also the term f**k buddy or b***y call. This is also where the two people have an agreement and arrangement. jeje

but 'quickie'? like, 'slam-bam-thank-you-mam'? - This is one sided typically and the other person can get hurt. I think that people who do this are lower than a worms belly and cowards. There are waaaaaay to many people out there that will be happy to agree to certain things, rather than to trick someone into making them believe you might "be the one"....then they slither away with some coward like story or just not contact you at all. BS.

So - whatever it is - it should be upfront and clear. ;)) No games UNO?

hahaha Its an old episode of sex and the city, in which this successful female lawyer can't get a date because she is too intimidating. So she decides to reinvent herself for speed dating, and says she is an air hostess, needless to say, she finds a man with whom she starts having tons of great casual sex.

CatGirl says on Jun 16, 2008, 14:52:

jeje..you guys. Again, from TV - and reality is different. I think I saw that episode. It was an episode, not real life. I have gal friends that do this c**p (tons of casual sex) and they are miserable. It is more drama packed in real life than what you see on TV. Lots of emptiness is what it is...I hear the BS stories all the time. Professional women juggling multiple men is not as lucrative as it sounds.

For the record - I put this post up cause kitty was curious if others have tried it, not because I am personally interested in speed dating ;)) I dont think it is what it is all what they say it is;)

haven't done it but read about it, 5 to 10 minute meetings with 10-20 different people, moving table to table, or something like that. Then you tell the powers that be who you liked, and they tell you if they liked you, and if you get a match, you plan a date. Maybe a good thing for extroverts. who knows? whatever works

admittedly, arriving can feel great too

wow....is this real? i remember--now--seeing a report on tv en re this. what ever happened to plain ole magnetism. aren't we doin alright just motating through life and catering to those who catch our eye and towards whom we feel drawn....you said it kitty....it's all about money and these mongers who spend a lot of $$$$ convincing folks that they have the key to the problem of the day...what problem? that 'someone' is out there, patience is the lubricant that eases the wait/search. hell, i married seven times and never went to romance school. nor, attended 'pretty yourself up' seminars. if i weren't married for the last 19 years, i could go out and hang up towels with some lovely today. where's the problem with folks.? no body is more, nor less valuable than another in the scheme of things, we all just need to remember that and think'/act/react accordingly.

Ahhh...jje. Got it, ja! Gets much attention, but not necessarily the right kind.

Just the other day some oddball stopped me in the parking lot asking me about a restaurant and if I was from the area. There is no such thing as the restaraunt he asked for. He drove around and followed me (kooky) everytime I tried to ditch him. I ducked into a store and the guy drove his car over the curb - all the way up onto the sidewalk and I thought he was trying to crash into the store I went into. Even funnier...he stayed 1/2 on sidewalk, 1/2 off and pulled out some water - sat for a loong time drinking water like nothing was "wrong".
"Tootle - loo...here I am almost crashed into a building, think I will relax and take a water break - everythinng is status normal!"

Yeah! right Joe Cool.

Mind you I did it for fun and because a very good female friend of mine asked me to accompany her. She is actually still dating some guy she met there jajaj

I did it twice and had an awesome time. Nothing serious but did get a couple of numbers and some dates out of the whole experience.

Do it!!
