Soldiers Deserve Better

I saw this on the news online a moment ago and thought I would post it. Here, you will see the living conditions of soldiers living at Ft. Bragg NC. I've stayed in Barraks like this too a long time ago and after a while, the unit closed them so they could renovate... and now there are still barraks worse off.

It's disgusting... yet the leadership does nothing and complains to those living in it as the reason the conditions are so bad.

I've had to shower in bathrooms like that before... but I wasn't coming back from a 15 month tour in Afghanistan either. This really is sad. :(

I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't have a shower for a month... especially if I was in the desert getting sweaty all day. Vom.

Dan
I don't know if your mob do the same but when I was in the military we didn't shower for a few days before going into the field so that we "smelt natural".
We'd wash our important little places with water and while in the field we used odourless wet wipes, and dental powder for our teeth. The longest I went without a proper wash was 38 days, but I found that after a few days the BO vanishes anyway. (I could never smell my own but noticed that the other guys stopped smelling) When we got back to camp the guys there said that we didn't smell too bad at all considering.
The Brit married quarters in the UK are in a pretty bad state, but the barracks are kept spotless. The UK government diverted the money from married quarters to pay for overseas pay and allowances and compensation for injured troops, without increasing the budget.
Our equipment was crap and the rations are pretty bland too.
That's why we beg, steal or borrow from you lot whenever we can.

Leave the big stick at home...carry a cannon!

Another sad example and even worse then this was the recent Scandal exposing the Deplorable conditions at Walter Reed Med Ctr,,,Ants, Cockroaches running free in some of the wards, No A/C at times in other wards. Guess the powers to be wanted to duplicate climate conditions found in Iraq,,all this for our Soldiers gave their all for our country,,,And don't let those Politicians in Washington blather on they knew nothing about it(filthy conditions) They were in the same town and its been rumored for years in washington circles the deplorable Conditions facing our Soldiers at Walter Reed,,,

Thank you for serving, Dan!!!! It's really sad to see that conditions haven't changed much over the years regarding base living quarters. Many years ago a high ranking relative of mine (an officer, actually) stayed at Walter Reed (or some other base near Washington DC) to attend a special event, and the rug was stained with vomit (and smelled like it), the couch had stains all over it, and the place looked like it could use a major paint job - and this was the officer's hotel. Anyway, the place was so disgusting he left and decided to stay at a civilian hotel instead.

In defense of some Government Hospitals, not all are bad or poorly managed. I was a patient in a Seaman's Hospital (US Public health Service)way back in my Military years for an operation. I was there approx 45 days and was amazed at the cleanliness of the wards and quality of the cooking. My back operation went off without a hitch and recovery was uneventful. A very good experience. Ironically, I went to work for this same Govermnet branch 20 years later as a Civilian Healthcare Provider. And I found out to my dismay that not all US Public Health Clinics were as well managed&Clean as the one I experienced 20 years later,,,

My father was in the regulars in the 50s. He said they always treated you like crap. When he disembarked for the Suez Invasion, he had to sleep in a hole in the ground sans rations for the first couple of days.

Kalder-I was in the Coast Guard for 4.6 years Active duty and the conditions there were exactly the opposite. We ate T-Bone steak 2 times weekly as well as Lobster Tail every friday. Berthing Conditions were spotless on the Coast Guard Stations as well on the Ships. New Seaman recruit arrivals from Boot Camp were assigned daily cleaning duties so dirt never had a happy long life in the guard. The CG was and is fanatical on cleanliness. Pitching a Cig Butt on the Grass at a CG station was punishable by hanging,,,LOL

Morphus--that is the truth! My only regret is that I didn't stay in the C Guard for 20-30 years. After Boot Camp(we had a 12 week Boot camp when I went in just like the marines and it was tough to say the least )now boots bitch about 4-6 weeks while they earn 20 times more then we did in Boot Camp. After A school for Gunner's Mates Training it was a piece of cake. Absolutely the BEST job I ever had,bar none. We had a lot of ex Navy, as well as ex army re-enlisting in the Guard.

Kalder-its true on the Food! Most of the CG duty stations are small 15-25 man units so its easy tocook for a small group and the CG didn't scrimp on Food for sure. The pay then was pretty low(though we didn't kill ourselves work wise) but all things considered it wasn't bad in hindsight. What we didn't earn in Pay we ate in food! LOL

Kalder-here's but example of how the CG feeds it members, beloe link: "Regardless of the cutter, the cooks said crews eat well, whether it's lobster flown in from Maine, crawfish from New Orleans, individual beef Wellingtons in puff pastry, or locally butchered steaks. The kitchens accommodate food allergies, and vegetarian or kosher preferences."

i dont find it surprising that living conditions in the military these days are deplorable...look at the way the men are treated after returning from iraq! men whove suffered serious brain injuries, lost limbs, pds disorders, et al...... they've even been/being charged for their hospitalization after--something like--30 days. accusations which admit of a general staff/pentagon culture that is exceeding horrible. it's just beyond imagination that this is going on.
