Kat-it all depends on what kind of slimming tablets you speak of! These no prescription green tea or brazilan pills sold on the internet or at the Vitamin Shops are essentially useless and in many cases, they are dangerous. Why you ask? Because the source, in many cases is Unknown. Next, you have NO idea where, by who and how these Pills were produced. Were they made in someone's dirty Garage or Chinese sweatshop where NO Ingredient or purity standards exists? Who in their right mind would put such an unknown Pill into their Body amazes me! The Drugs made in Bonafide Laboratories,an Example would be a Drug such as Roche Pharmaceutical's "Xenical", (chemical name Orlistat) which here in the USA requires a Prescription if you want the 120mg dose. The 60 mg dose now approved for over the counter sales is known as "Alli". This is a legitimate weight loss drug that acts on the small intestine's ablity to absorb Fat from a recent meal. Most of these other fast weight loss drugs are BS, Fad drugs which rarely have lasting weight loss effects. Many people have become deathly sick as a result of taking these unknown Fad diet pills. Vanity overtakes good judgement and common sense in many instances,,,

CATGirl--I persoanlly took this drug for 3 months more for its Cholesterol Lowering ability then for weight loss. Thats a secondary action of Xenical(orlistat) . I rarely eat meat an other foodstuffs containing large amounts of fat but due to genetics, My cholesterol runs high. In all the time I took this drug, 3 times daily, I never once suffered from the side effect you mentioned. I believe the reason was my low fat intake; if you take this drug and avoid a lot of fats, you probably won't have this side effect. It really is one of those "Beneficial" Drugs. Then again, it is a real drug manufactured in a real Laboratory and not some internet or Vitamin Shop concoction of unknown origen,,,

CG-How long did you take Orlistat(xenical)?

Kat-very possibly what you are attempting to lose via a Diet MAY be impossible due to family genetics. If your Mom or Dad have/had for example, a small/large belly or a Turkey Gobbler Neck, you, in time, will inherit this Turkey Neck or belly of fat deposits also. As you age, it becomes more pronounced. As you enter Middle age and your Metabolic rate slows down, the Fat Cells become larger and overtime, the belly gets bigger. It(belly) cannot be removed or made smaller by exercise. You can go on a diet and shrink these fat Cells, but a Diet will never rid your body of them. As you return to your old eating habits again, the Fat cells return to their larger size again and thats why people gain weight, time after time. Drinking Water will not wash the fat Cells out of your system-another quack diet theory circulating on the internet. LOL Chemically&Biologically this is impossible but a lot of people fall for it.Good for the Skin tone and digestion anyways, the drinking of water.

Another factor that would change the equation is if someone has a Glandular/endocrine deficiency or overproduction, say a thyroid disease and of course that could drastically affect the metabolic rate and affect the body's ability to metabolize Fat/sugar/Calories but that is another story completely.

If the 5 pounds of fat is say in your belly, surgical removal via Liposuction is the only real way to remove these fat deposits permently. These fat Cells you have are deposited during pregnancy; you do not grow more fat cells after birth and after you have say, Liposuction in the Belly, Fat Cells do NOT migrate from another area to the Belly area making you Fat there again. You may get Fat in some other areas where you have Genetic Fat Depsoits but not where you had Liposuction. It is a Common Myth and Old Wives Tale you will get Fat again in the area you previously had Liposuctioned; in reality, there is no Physiological basis for this occuring again. To substantiate this fact, that is why some Liposuction Patients will use the Fat removed from say the belly and reinjected into another area, say the Butt to enlarge this area. There is no way either by Medicine or by exercise where you can get these fat cells in the belly to migrate around, down and to the Butt-surgical removal and re-injection is the only method. Check with any Registered Nutritionist or Reputable Plastic Surgeon on this matter...

Catgirl- Not maybe but Lipo is the ONLY Option currently,,, Physiologically you cannot turn these fat cells into muscle cells with any proven current technology so presently there is no other option regardless of what you want to do, no matter how much iron you pump. If you know of a method to accomplish this change, run as fast as you can to the Patent Office and patent that process pronto as you will be One Very Rich Woman! Get there ahead of those Ph.D Guys working on embryonic Stem Cell research! And here inthe US forget any research as Bush shut down the use of any of these lines due to pressure from the religous right of the Republican party. No matter that this research may lead to a cure for Stroke and various other neurological diseases. LOL Huge difference in the biochemistry between Adipose Tissue(fat cells) and Muscle Tissue. Nothing is more influential then Genetics when it comes to these fat deposits. 1000s of people exercise daily, the pump Iron until it is coming out the Kazoo but after all the weight training exercises, the FAT Cells are still there. They may have shrunk a Tad but the main structure (fat cell)is still there and intact,,,I have a German friend who is a hard drinker, smokes like a Chimney, has done every drug known to man, eats out daily at McDonalds all the crap fatty salty food yet he is built like Arnold S. He had the fortune to inherit very good genes and doesn't have an ounce of Fat on his 220 lb frame. Hard to beat genetics even if you try,,,lucky for him

Ok MM - lots of info there;)) Whoa!!
Bottom line fat is fat and muscle is muscle. The only thing you can do is shrink the contents of a fat cell, but it is always there. That's why it is so much easier to gain it back. It takes more time to create a fat cell than fill one.
Yep...for the time being. Only way to rid of the adipose completely is Liposuction ;)

Stay tuned

There are different types of slimming tabs. Most contain stimulants that increase metabolism and heart rate, plus cause the jitters -- caffeine, guarine, ephedrine or phenylephrine. They don't work that well and the calorie diet part makes a bigger difference, might as well just drink eight cups of coffee a day and get the same effect.

I have never been around a beautiful woman who did not think something was wrong with her body. There is always something they would change.

kat1 is really a beautiful woman. She looks like my wife and seems to have the same weight problems. Part of it is that she is getting older and some of the difficulty comes with age and changing hormones.

My wife has tried those drugs and still uses some of them. She has had most success by religiously avoiding carb's (white bread) and she loves her bread!

As CatGirl says you must be sure that any diet doesn't cause you to loose muscle mass. That is why some diets are dangerous.

This a personal observation so beware. It appears things that makes the Colombian woman highly desirable also carries with it the danger of weight gain. Short, petite genetically predisposed to weight gain. All that means is that they need to be aware, alert and active in controlling their (body) destiny.

Truth be told! I would love my wife regardless of any weight gain.

Kat,

I would stay away from slimming pills. They are typically just loaded with caffeine or other chemicals that speed up your system. Basically, they are like legal speed. My secretary was using the very popular Hydroxycut pills a while back and they made her feel awful. They caused her to sweat like a pig and made her pulse accelerate. In general, she said she felt like she'd drank a whole pot of coffee and she wasn't even taking the full dose.

If you are looking to tone up, I would recommend trying Pilates. That seems to be the absolute best exercise system for women. I even do some as part of my exercise routine. It looks like very silly calisthenics and you feel like a doofus doing the exercises, but once you feel your whole core hurting sore the next day, you will realize that the exercises are no joke.

Man Tequila says on May 1, 2008, 09:34:

Here's what I don't get about Orlistat (Xenical). It works by stopping some of the chemicals that break down fat. So maybe 30% of dietary fat goes into the poop instead of your body. And many folks would lose some weight. Fatty poop tends to stink, float, be mushy and look greasy. But so what? People who want to lose weight don't care.

And yet, they do when it comes to Olestra. This was the discovery people waited years for, and the food industry thought they would make billions. Olestra is a mirror image of fat, an L-enzyme instead of an R-isomer, fat flipped over. The body can't absorb it, but it has very similar chemical properties since it is the same chemical. But a few media articles on greasy feces and "anal leakage" and many wouldn't touch it, though they would pay handsomely to go on a pill that had similar side effects. Got to be the worst marketing job ever on Olestra's part. Never understood it.
