Republicans? Let's enjoy the debates . . .

I see the defeatocrats are arranging a debate viewing party.

I may get kicked out of that one, so I ask if there is a preferred place for Republicans to enjoy the debate(s)?

Maybe we can takeover a TV at a bar/restaurant somewhere in the north (of Bogota).

Any takers? This one would be free . . . no forced donations.

It looks like McCain may be bailing out. He claims it is so he can "focus on the economy", but that seems like a lame excuse to avoid getting trounced. Whether you like his politics or not, he simply isn't very good in unscripted formats.

If today's latest polls showing Obama leading McCain by 52-43% were Reversed and McCain leading by 9 % points, I am sure McCain would NOT be backing out. This is nothing but a delay tactic. let the Debates go on, McCain can travel, after all isn't that what Jetplanes, of which his wife one of them, for? McCain should concerned himself more the last 20 years when he voted for all the Deregulation, which has in a large part, contributed to the current problem,,,Imagine, he now wants 4 more years to clean up the mess he is large part now responsible for,,,LOL

I will vote for McCain but will not be to upset if Mr. ah ah ah above wins.

With all due respect to you non americans in this PBH forum, we need a NATIONALIST candidate in America. The Democrats want to give our country away and the Republicans want to sell it. The victories of WW2 are being given away by greedy corporate leaders. Our manufacturing is gone. We send our wealth to invest in China, India and even Mexico and nothing is invested HERE! The DEMS are afraid of CO2 when it is the Chinese who are doing the polluting for sure with our American wealth! We continue to send our wealth to middle east countries who hate us for oil. Our politicans allow this because they are greedy and power hungry.

We fed Europe after world war two and we may not even be able to feed ourselves?

You watch those debates but I have little faith in either McCain or Obama. Biden less. Heck, Sarah Palin is the bright spot in all of this. She is one of us and Obama is not!

South side Chicago activist with a million dollar house? Give me a break LOL.

For the sake of the U of Miss, I hope the debates go on as it is costing them approx 5 ,000,000 $$$$ to sponser the debate. Maybe McCain, since he (thru his wife) has extremely "Deep Pockets", would like to re-imburse the U of Miss Treasury that 5 Mil they will be out of McCain cancels out and doesn't show up?? The Debate takes only 1.5 hours of his time and in this Age of Jet Travel, he can be back in Washington soon after the debates and they have said in Washington, he is NOT needed in this crisis. Many repubs would prefer he doesn't show up as he was one who championed De-regulation legislation that has landed the US Economy in its present mess. This is nothing but a delay tactic since he is 9 points behind now in the Polls. Its like he a Ref calling a Time Out in a rough game of football and he is on the 4th down with long yardage to go last Qtr.

Peeps are going ape shit here at Ole Miss. Ugh, it is all I've heard about yesterday and today.

By the way... part of that 5 million was for campus beautification stuff (fountain, ripping up a parking lot). I think the actual staging for the debate (including construction all summer to lay down fibre optic cables which will be of use after the debate is over) is about half that price. They've also set up some snazzy lights outside the building where the debate will be held so that the building will be red and blue at night. Wow.

It looks like McCain has maybe shot himself in the foot AGAIN, as Obama may have an hour of TV face-time, all to himself, and already with about a 9% advantage. It was a little political ploy that backfired. Maybe the old boy realizes that he and the Barracuda are simply out of their league.

But, what a shame for U of M, and an insult to the people of Mississippi, as well as all those looking forward to the debate. It would very possibly have been, game over (even without Hillary)!

I agree miami, and I'm totally not saying that it is fair. Life isn't fair. :( Ole Miss was asked to host a presidential debate during the last election 4 years ago but declined. I wonder why they decided to this time. I guess I'm just saying that no one forced them to agree to hold the debate. However, I do agree that it isn't really fair that they put forth effort and money and then it might not happen. But I guess the unfairness of it all just doesn't bother me as much. Maybe b/c I wasn't really all that excited about the debate anyway. I dunno.

I'm still thinking that McCain will come. I don't know why he'd want to allow Obama to have the stage all for himself, you know?

TG--doesn't matter why they decined 4 years ago. Again NOT my business or yours why they declined 4 years ago. Must have had their reasons. Not my Job to find out why! The fact is NOW they expended a lot of Money to prepare for this Debate and since McCain is going to MIA, he should pay the college for what they spent in preparation. Fair is fair

Billyb--whether McCain owns 7, 10, 11 homes, he is the one that chickened out so he should pay up. The oversight on homes(how many) is a moot point. He can well afford to flip out $5,000,000 or whatever the college spent in preparation for the debates.

BTW, I noticed in 2004 that the Republicans claimed John Kerry was wealthy with Millions in the bank, more then one home EVEN THOUGH HIS WIFE THERESA OWNED THESE HOMES AND THE MILLIONS WERE HERS BEFORE SHE MARRIED KERRY, still the Republicans tagged Kerry as being the wealthy one. Where was your outrage then?? LOL Now the shoe is on the other foot and listen to 'em howl! LOL

Mike you were not the only aware that his money came from the Heinz fortune his wife inherited, everybody else I know was quite aware that he was imcapable of amassing that kind of wealth on his own ;) But you stated that MacCain CAME from money, nobody asserted that Kerry CAME from money, they just pointed out he was wealthy, while all along being aware that he was piggybacking of his wife's inheritance.

BillyB--McCain didn't exactly come from a Impoverished family prior to marrying his 2nd wife. Last I knew he was the Son and Grandson of Admirals and I doubt this would relegate you to 3rd class status. In the Military, I was in a Seagoing branch of the Service and believe me, the Kids of Admirals did NOT want for anything. Got him(mccain) a Legacy Admission to the Naval Academy also,,,John McCain didn't worry as a Teenager where his next meal was coming from,,,

While you may have been aware of the fact Kerry wasn't born into Money, many Republicans obviously were not, what with all the swiftboating going on about "How much money he had", I saw few Republicans refuting that wild claim so in the absence of this, Logic would have one to belive the majority of Republicans actually believed this,,,How easily they were fooled,,,And arithmetically challenged they were,,,

miamimike says on Sep 27, 2008, 12:22:

BllyB--A Cursory Google search showed he started out this way after he got out of the Naval Academy:
McCain was commissioned an ensign.[52] He spent two years as a naval aviator in training, first at Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida through September 1959, and then at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi in Texas, during which time he was promoted to lieutenant, junior grade.[53][52] He earned a reputation as a party man, ***he drove a Corvette, dated an exotic dancer named "Marie the Flame of Florida", spent all his free time on the beach*****n a Bachelor Officer Quarters room turned bar and friendly gambling den, and, as he later said, "generally misused my good health and youth".[54][22] He began as a sub-par flier: he had limited patience for studying aviation manuals, and spent study time reading history books instead.[54] During a practice run in Texas, his engine quit while landing, and his aircraft crashed into Corpus Christi Bay and sank to the bottom

Had he been a Democrat Prez Nominee, the 527 Swiftboaters would have had a Ball with this part of his life. Funny thing about McCain and his being a Veteran is why he doesn't support today's Veterans. He was either absent, missing the Votes to fully fund the VA Medical System or voted aginst it and also did not support the New improved GI Bill --he vocally said he didn't support it. As a Vet of the same war he participated in, his non-support of our Veterans is perplexing. I know in our family and in the American Legion Hall I belong to here in Miami-this does not resonate well with us Veterans. I certainly could never vote for him based on this lack of support, other Vets from Iraq vets to WW2 Vets feel the same way in our area. His Dem opponents were there for the Votes and Voted Yea for increased funding for the Vets. He should have been called on this by Obama last night, hope this shortcoming will be brought up in future debates. I guess now being married to a Millionaire, he has forgot about the Veterans on the lower rungs of life and those not as fortunate as himself,,,
