In return for allowing a the Chinese to establish a naval base in Sri Lanka, China has defeated the Tamil Tigers for them.
The Tigers are far better organized than the FARC, have a large social base, and pioneered the suicide bomb long before the tactic was used by Islamic movements.

It looks like Colombia would be better off letting China build a base in Colombia instead of the US.
