The guy's American, but seems to have family/biz in Europe. And I'm guessing you're correct, the strength of the euro today has got to be playing a role in his thinking....

She's really too big an investment (for me, anyway) to only visit periodically, and I'm planning on living in either Bolivia or Peru soon - Bolivia obviously means only visiting a boat sometimes, and Lima is not great sailing, either - so it makes sense to sell her and buy something more affordable. So- I keep telling myself selling her is the smart thing, when a buyer appears by magic offering a very good price. But the truth is - I'm not certain I can do it. When I bought her, she was almost a derelict. I've done much of the work on her myself. She's like an old an trusted friend, now. I would be very sad to see her go.

So- to answer your question- I'll first find a smaller, simpler boat to restore. I like messing around with boats. The rest of the proceeds? Don't know. Maybe a small finca somewhere...maybe I convince elmo to let me buy into Elmo's Bar & Chucheria. jajajajajjaa

i think there are going to be some really good deals witnin 12-18 months on boats, homes, and everything else..

homes are at 'fire sale' prices in california; I mean 50% less from a year ago and no one is even looking, let alone buying.

I don't think my place will sale and I'm doomed to rent it for the rest of my life.

But yea- I have my eye on a potential replacement, if this deal goes thru. If I wind up in Peru, there's only one destination for any lengthy trip aboard I've always dreamed of in the eastern pacific - the Galapagos Islands. Always thought that would be an outstanding place to go in my own boat....

Currents and countercurrents flowing northbound and southbound off sudamerica's west coast. perfect for a sailor though - currents helping in both directions! The Galapagos are at the confluence of 5 distinct ocean currents - never saw such a thing before. Can you tell I've been thinking about this? jajajajaja

Morph, provided this deal goes thru, it won't be too long before the replacement for Querencia is southbund. Before hurricane season, barring more weird shit happening. Except with the next boat, it won't be hurry to Cartagena, it would be a more traditional island passage....first stop, Marina Hemingway, claro. From there, DR....Virgin Islands, etc. all the way south thru the canal. Lots of stops, spread over several months. I'll leave the boat periodically, then resume after work commitments get handled. You're always welcome. Sorry to disappoint this time. But don't worry - I don;t do well, boatless. Makes me nervous.

GL- I'm winding up my time in Florida. Within a month or two, I'll be living in either Lima or Santa Cruz. I'm waiting for my business to steer me towards one or the other. But the business will have me traveling pretty much all around south america - so a beer is possible almost anywhere - including colombia. The beer's on me.
