Straw poll: Who hates Political Correctness?

http://www.academia.org/lectures/lind1.html

For the record, as a moderate, I'd like to see every left-liberal hanging from a lamp post.

PC can get out of control................but Liberal v Conservative ?, at least in the American sense.............I'd be more drawn to SOME if not most of the Liberal agenda and way of thinking.

I prefer the Liberal outlook on gun control, enviorment, immigration reform, view of religons,
attitude to minorities and the death penalty to name a few.........

.The conservitive line on fiscal rectitude and public spending is often more appealing, but they tend not to act on their words all the time.

.........Its useless to argue with ignorance

Interesting. I'm the other way round: left-leaning when it comes to economic matters and conservative on social issues.

But if Right and Left are twin evils, I suspect the latter is the worse of the two. The Right just want your body (ie: as a wage slave), the Left want your soul.

How very contradictory Kalder...Moderate and "every left liberal hanging from a post" in the same sentence. Makes perfect sense.

Sorry Kalder, we just don't have the irony font on this website and from what I've been reading lately, I wouldn't put is past some... I apologise for having put you in that infamous category.

it can't be that I am more aligned with RAAY than kalder?!

I am definitely economically conservative and politically liberal. But 'political correctness' certainly is the opposite of what I consider liberal. Liberal means 'freedom' of thought and expression, which PC is clearly opposed to.

put me down as anti PC, and one who thinks it's more sinister than just being a PITA.

You're very gracious CK, but no need to apologise. As P.G. Wodehouse said, "It is a good rule in life never to apologise. The right sort of people do not want apologies and the wrong sort take a mean advantage of them." ;)

Yes, I'm afraid so pod. You and El Rey are both ruthless plutocrats.

While I was working in the UK I was at a meeting about "Diversity in the Workplace" where the chairman said, "Right, let's get down to the nitty-gritty".
During the lunch break the chairman got called into one of the big-wigs' office and hauled over the coals for saying it. One of the girls at the meeting had complained because, apparently, "nitty-gritty" stems from the days of the slave ships and was the traders slang for all the crap that fell to the bottom of the ship through the iron gratings. It also had sexual connotations as "working your way down to the nitty-gritty" meant working your way through the female slaves.

Now, not I or anyone else that I've ever asked, knew that - including black colleagues, who incidently laughed when they heard this.

The chairman apologised for any offence caused but also pointed out that
a) he didn't know, and
b) everyone at the meeting was actually white anyway.

It was then pointed out to him by the PC Police that this didn't matter. If a white person was offended on behalf of a black person, that was sufficient, even if a black person had been present and had not complained. Also, that it was everybody's individual responsibility to know of such "offensive" phrases.

Sorry for the racial subject matter used, it's just an example. But I wonder how many other off the wall comments are used in everyday language that would make the PC Brigade bleed from the ears. I also wonder how long those who the said PC Brigade deem will be insulted will put up with their demeaning and patronising attitudes. Most of them also think that political correctness is a load of crap!

I find Colombia refreshing in this respect. Imagine being called 'fatty', 'skinny', 'blondie', or 'blackie' in London?!

How about all these schools banning all those playgroung games like dodgeball and tag, becuse if someone wasn't good at it, they might get traumatized for life? What if they aren't good at life? What is the PC police going to do? Set limits on what you can achieve so as not to offend the underachievers/ LOL, where does it stop?

ruthless? me? huh. Never felt that way but kind of like the label : )

I do really like how colombians speak freely, make the blackest of jokes (no pun intended), and are the least pc of anyone I've come across.

Anyway, I just think lots of evidence that capitalism provides the best life for the most people, and is the most just, although is certainly not perfect. Still miles better than any alternative I have heard of.

I still believe people are basically good, and will help out those in need, more so when they are not told they have to, and more still when they have not been told government is there to do it all for them.
