Now, this is Koool: an Ever-Changing-Shape Building (in Dubai!)

This is ... progressive, creative, and daring. Well, it's really probably no magical engineering feat.

It'll be interesting to see if they're able to make this work. GS - You know that this thing hasn't even been built yet? It won't be finished until 2010. The mechanics behind this building will have to be incredible to be able to make it move.

HG is right.
Can you even fathom the gears size to rotate one floor, let alone the energy consumption?
Nonetheless the thing looks really really really cool

the issue will be the central axis which all the units affix to. it must stay true or there will be problems. very cool concept though..... amazing appearance!

Architecturally is an amazing thing but from the engineering viewpoint, I don´t think is feasible.
It´s like some project to build the tallest building in South Asia (Shangai or Hong Kong, I can´t remember) I watched once on Discovery channel Extreme Engineering. The problem that high-altitude winds poses and the massive weight can be solved, but the concrete needed to build it would take the whole world cement´s production for about 2 years

Something like the Turning Torso in Malmo, Sweden which is cool and possible is mor lkely to happen.

I think you're talking Hong Kong?

I was wondering about the engineering of it during high winds as well. I'm surprised that they just don't start with something smaller (i.e., fewer floors) to ensure it works. Also, at 80 floors will they be able to get multiple elevators in the core (where the hydraulics or whatever mechanics they're using to move the building) will also be located? The core would have to be huge!

Wow...that Swedish building is pretty cool!

OK...my favorite high-rise building has to be the Petronas twin tower in Kuala Lumpur. It's beautiful and oh so shiny!

this is gonna be 'humpty-dumpty' all over again. but i'll be there to watch er fall. wouldn't miss it for anything. the nasty conspicous consumption of these 'sand-dabs' is just an accident waiting to happen.

Sobre todo. Sorry but that is a computer animation and has yet to be built.
