well, as of this p.m wednesday, they just evacuated 14,000 folks from paradise...i think that's up on the russian river. the blazes are so bad, producing so much smoke, that they can't use their aerial tankers with retardant. hundreds of houses up in smoke. pity.

baldwins book is a good read. he kinda like miles davis, an angry young man. not as intense as davis...davis was a slammer and so his personality was really intense.

Doulgas..no my dear - many, miles North of Russia River.. I have family up in Paradise, Oroville, Chico - Yolo County. It is much more North. It is amazingly ugly as sin. There is a small canyon that looks like a minature version of the Grand Canyon. It is pretty in the outskirts (amongst the trees burning up now). Paradise is known for its Antique stores and there are a lot of "techies" that live there now too (they live in the woods.) Just jam away on their computers and telecommute 2-3 days a week at most....

This morning, wish I had my camera.....the rising sun was blood orange red from the pollution. What a sight - only seen that one other time many years back from Northern CA fires. But I think it was even close to as big as this...
