The scene on Thursday afternoon was fitting for the historic occasion: A group of Colombians, Nicaraguans and Cubans meeting at a Peruvian restaurant in Miami to toast a Puerto Rican woman's ascent to the highest court in the land.
``We did it!'' shouted Nubia Rodriguez over the cheers of a dozen others who celebrated the Senate confirmation of federal appellate court judge Sonia Sotomayor to a seat on the U.S. Supreme Court.
The diversity of Latinos at the Sabor a Peru restaurant on Biscayne Boulevard illustrates the pride Sotomayor's appointment represented to not just Puerto Ricans but to the nation's 45 million Hispanics.
"``This is a prize to every Latino parent who toils and works hard to make sure their children can get ahead,'' said Miriyam Torres, glowing with pride as she watched a CNN broadcast of the Senate's vote at the restaurant.
Torres came to Miami eight years ago from Colombia, cleaning houses to help put her daughter Lisa through Florida International University.
``A new generation of young women will have the judge as a role model of what you can accomplish if you stay honest and work hard,'' Torres said."
Also on the News today today it was reported that Various Influential Hispanic Voting Groups will remember which Republicans Voted against Ms Sotomayor come the next time these Senators are up for re-election. They Vow to make these Senators pay at the Ballot Box. They learn fast, after all is that Not the American Way? When a Politican displeases you, Vote .em out next time around. Happened in 2006 & 2008,,,

I wonder if that person knows that when we push the FUNNY button, its because we are reading something outrageous, trying to be cynical, derogatory, sarcastic and/or obnoxious!" 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

miamimike says on Aug 6, 2009, 20:34: PCL--as far as I know, its the one in the 20s. Its almost across by the Bicycle Shops I go in that area of Biscayne ---right by 17& biscayne(Bike, Skate&Scoot shop) and Biscayne Cycles around 20 & biscayne. Biscayne Cycles has a Colombian Owner by the name of Willie. There used to be another Peruvian Rest in the 20s(east side of biscayne) but that closed and a Starbucks moved into its place. Where is the one in the 150s--I cycle by there almost daily but never saw that one--at 151st & Biscayne is the entrance to FIU North Campus and further north in the 150s are a couple Mexican restaurants on the west side of biscayne. At 135 & Biscayne in a small plaza is the Pachamama Rest which is Peruvian. A lot of Puerto ricans live nearby just west of Biscayne (20s on up to the 30s) in that area. There's also a few Peruvian places around 36 & Biscayne, they come and go these small places, esp now with the lousy economy. There's another Peru place further up Biscayne around the 180s.
