Sounds pretty sincere (nevermind the fact that he still employs the racist Richard Quinn and he also raised money for George Wallace's son, a big fan of the Council of Consevative Citizens (a far to the right organization that is blatantly racist on several issues). I find it interesting, nothing more nothing less.

It's sad to see and hear the candidiates that are in the urnning for the white house...

MLK was a great man. I visited the civil rights museum and Memphis...I think he was a great leader...and it's always the great one's that are taken away...

MLK had his faults, but his strengths far outweighed them and I have tremendous respect for him as well, MaFe.

I was hoping people would have more to say about the S1W's and Chuck D, but oh well.

What are they going to say LC? That it's surprising that people like them exist? Or that McCain actually help raise money for a racist F&%$?

Lcacique says on Apr 4, 2008, 22:47:

No, MaFe...jajaja...Sorry. The S1-Ws and Chuck D are in the music video, they're known as Public Enemy.

I saw a news story on McCain's speach and heard about him having some controversial connections and all the sudden I remembered the music video (By The Time I Get To Arizona which I posted). I recalled them having an actor play McCain at a news conference telling everyone that there would never be an MLK day in Arizona as long as he was in office...

Anyway, I was just getting nostalgic about Public Enemy...

Yep, I was a teen and I remembered thinking "How can this a$$hole not support MLK day?" I mean, do we really need a Columbus day? MLK seems a lot more relevant and he doesn't have all of the negative baggage. When I think of the most important public figures in our history, Dr. King is pretty damn close to the top (if not at the top). So, yeah...I put two and two together and remembered that McCain was responsible for one of my favorite Public Enemy songs...(Not that he was the only one...Cheney voted against it and also voted against the release of Nelson Mandela from prison).

Yeah, I remember a lot of white kids shyed away from PE because they were so political and militant. I was close with several african american kids in the day. Summers at the park, I'd bring music down to the b-ball courts and I'd always rock a lot of PE and they'd all trip out. I miss all of that...nobody where I am living right now really hits the court in the same way we did in my youth. Makes me want to get back to Portland...Back to PE, I always loved their music as well. It was big w/ horns blasting like sirens and samples flying all over the place. Most other rap artists at the time were pretty soft (not that I can't get into some of that as well).

LC...my friend just emailed me this....

10 things you should know about John McCain (but probably don't):

1. John McCain voted against establishing a national holiday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Now he says his position has "evolved," yet he's continued to oppose key civil rights laws.1
2. According to Bloomberg News, McCain is more hawkish than Bush on Iraq, Russia and China. Conservative columnist Pat Buchanan says McCain "will make Cheney look like Gandhi."2
3. His reputation is built on his opposition to torture, but McCain voted against a bill to ban waterboarding, and then applauded President Bush for vetoing that ban.3

4. McCain opposes a woman's right to choose. He said, "I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned."4

5. The Children's Defense Fund rated McCain as the worst senator in Congress for children. He voted against the children's health care bill last year, then defended Bush's veto of the bill.5

6. He's one of the richest people in a Senate filled with millionaires. The Associated Press reports he and his wife own at least eight homes! Yet McCain says the solution to the housing crisis is for people facing foreclosure to get a "second job" and skip their vacations.6

7. Many of McCain's fellow Republican senators say he's too reckless to be commander in chief. One Republican senator said: "The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine. He's erratic. He's hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me." 7

8. McCain talks a lot about taking on special interests, but his campaign manager and top advisers are actually lobbyists. The government watchdog group Public Citizen says McCain has 59 lobbyists raising money for his campaign, more than any of the other presidential candidates.8
9. McCain has sought closer ties to the extreme religious right in recent years. The pastor McCain calls his "spiritual guide," Rod Parsley, believes America's founding mission is to destroy Islam, which he calls a "false religion." McCain sought the political support of right-wing preacher John Hagee, who believes Hurricane Katrina was God's punishment for gay rights and called the Catholic Church "the Antichrist" and a "false cult."9

10. He positions himself as pro-environment, but he scored a 0—yes, zero—from the League of Conservation Voters last year.10

our only saving grace... rough as it might be... the grace.. jaj.. is that the balance of powers in the usa.

I'm wondering, if it will be enough to turn the country in a better direction at this point.
Because the three stooges photo I posted, .... is about the size of it, this time around, I think.

Lcacique says on Apr 6, 2008, 12:23:

aztec, I believe you just posted about absolut vodka and its ad referring to the US and Mexico, so get off my back son. What in the heck did that have to do with Colombia?

McCain obviously does have something to do with Colombia, though this particular post may not directly and that it is why it is in off topic.

In addition, why do you have a problem with someone arguing the opposition's side. You parade all over the site spouting off about the democrats. Didn't you create a post about Barrack Hussein Obama? What was your point?

Nothing extreme has been said here, so what is your issue?

As for MaFe, I believe she is a Republican...I am not sure. But I believe she wrote that she would never vote for a democrat. I could be wrong, though...so do not quote me on that!

I am a Republican...and proudly say I would NEVER vote for the two candidtaes that are running for the democrat party...

Not everyone is perfect...and I don't discuss politics on a board...might throw my two cents in...but I feel it's better left alone....

Damn MaFe did not know you were enlightened ie. a Republican! My apologies!

It is that some people can't get over the fact that in the last TWO elections approximately half of the the legal citizens voted for Bush. Hell, I didn't like Clinton but he was my elected leader and I supported him. Albeit I did have to hold my nose.

Lcacique says on Apr 6, 2008, 17:26:

That is funny aztec...What is there to get over. Many Americans swallowed the lies that were fed to them. I don't blame them. And then there are the ones that are actually ignorant enough to believe that there was a link between Osama and Iraq, or that Iraq still had weapons of mass destruction (eventhough months before 9/11 Powell gave a speech claiming that Iraq was powerless militaristically), etc. You cannot really blame someone for being ignorant (although the ones that continue to support the current government despite the overwhelming evidence that they were full of it, are worthy of blame because that is a sign of stupidity not ignorance). I hold the government to a certain standard. By your reasoning the President could carryout genocide and you'd support him because he's your elected official. That is a little strange. Clinton's mistakes pale in comparison and we will be paying for this government's mistakes for generations (Monica is not a real threat to US national security).

Look, a lot of Americans listen to Britney Spears, it doesn't mean that she is talented.

LC...no apologies needed! I am actually honored that you pay attention to what I write...
My not to mention politics wasn't geared towards you...tranquilo amigo..I know you are wise beyond your years!

Aztec...nice of you to support whoever is in charge of the country...at the time of Clinton's elections; I wasn't old enough to vote...If a democrat wins...what can I do? Support the country I live in and believe in.
