Maybe we are not the only ones

My husband was talking to a polish Pharmacist, he has been in the UK for 3 years now, he and his GF bought a flat here, he said to my husband that most of the Polish people who has been here in the UK for more than 5 years have gone back to Poland, he said they only came here to make money then return to Poland as wages here are 5 times higher than in Poland.

He also said that as soon as he made a little bit of money he is planing to sell the flat and go back
according to him there is not sense of community in the UK, families are not close as in Poland (sound familiar?) Poland being a catholic country people tend to help each other more, he can't understand why a 17 y/o is living on his own here, when he should be surrounded by his or her family he said here the family values are lost.

Also he said there was a big problem with alcoholism in Poland but since the iron country fell it' s less now as more foreign companies are opening in Poland so there is more jobs.

My point is I feel sorry for this country, the British want to leave, the foreigners want to make money and leave what is going to be left of the UK?

And his words remind me of how many of us compare the USA/UK with Colombia (no community, family values, closer family)
maybe we are not the only ones :(

makes sense. Other places I've been to, the families are much closer than in the US.
In a way, I think it's great for people to stay together but, at the same time, as kids get older, they need to be able to learn and experiense things on their own and not have to depend on others when things doing go their way.
I'm sure there's other places that are more like US/UK. We can't be the only one's.

God Bless America!

Good post Kat, I think it's very sad too.
Dan, I don't think everyone in the U.S., isn't close to their families. I actually have seen many Europeans here that are very close to their families...I have seen it here and while in Europe with the Italians, Jewish, Spaniards, Africans, Arabs, the list is endless....

Regardless, it's so sad Kat how this goes from culture to culture..

REALLY interesting post, kat. for me, it's about a balance..

i adore how latin culture values the family, it's a big reason i'm more comfortable outside the US...

until i see a gal who's 35 with a great career in architecture still living w/ mom, just because she never married. (just to name 1 example)

maybe as the world shrinks, more balance is achieved?

The thing is I've never heard a comment like this coming from an American or British. I though this was only from a latin culture but to my surprise coming for a Polish.
