god is in your head

tejasmarcos says on Mar 22, 15:41:

and probably his best song in my books.....

act 2 of the song doesn't even start until after 4 full minutes.

god is in your head

Lcacique says on Mar 22, 16:11:

well tejas, here's a little more Joe Walsh in Barnstorm playing Funk 49:

He's just a cool guy all around.

Hoy se nota en la floresta un ambiente de alegría. ¡Y el rumor de ranchería es mas dulce y sabe a fiesta!

tejasmarcos says on Mar 22, 16:21:

why did jw and the eagles split anyways?

why does slide guitar sound so good?

where does jw hail from?

god is in your head

Lcacique says on Mar 22, 16:46:

Which split are you talking about?

I want to say that he was born in Kansas, but I can't remember...some middle america state. Most people recognize him as being from Ohio. He spent a lot of time in there (went to college at Kent) and that is where he formed the James Gang. After they broke up (they eventually replaced Walsh with another great guitarist who died to young Tommy Bolin. I'll post a song by him), JW formed Barnstorm which lasted for a few albums before he went solo. A little later he was called up to join the Eagles, replacing Bernie Leadon (another great guitar player who went on to form the Flying Burrito Brothers with Gram Parsons).

Slide sounds good, because it slides...no break between the notes.

Tommy Bolin, a demo for the song called Teaser:

He played in Deep Purple, but I think playing in other people's bands always held him back. The best was yet to come from this poor kid who died way too young.

tejasmarcos says on Mar 22, 16:58:

he reminds me a little of billy squire. good stuff.....

my only friend, the end.....

god is in your head

Lcacique says on Mar 22, 17:13:

Billy Squire??? oh no!!! Lyrically the Tommy Bolin song is not that great, and it is certainly dated (they should have used it in the movie Dazed and Confused), but Billy Squire...I'm just screwing around, I did like one BS song as a kid, Everybody Wants You...Outside of that one, I didn't really listen to him, though.

tejasmarcos says on Mar 22, 17:20:

i'm a sucker for any music with a great guitarist. i play a pretty mean air guitar myself....

one time i went to a jethro tull concert (1991) and i saw a guy "going off" on an air flute. i have never seen anything like it since.

i need to run off to barrio antioquia and pick up some supplies, back online later...

god is in your head

Lcacique says on Mar 22, 17:25:

Hilarious air flute story...I've heard that happens a lot at Tull concerts. The Window Pane floating around at those shows probably has something to do with it.

Lcacique says on Mar 22, 17:50:

Checkout my friend smoking on Bass...Unfortunately, Tommy Lee ruined their sound (their demos were great! The album is way over produced and they choose some of their weaker material, IMHO.) Anyway, members went on to play in Goldfinger, Velvet Revolver, Orgy, etc.

kind of funny to see them all before they got into more popular projects...

tejasmarcos says on Mar 22, 20:37:

is that kid rock sittin there on the couch saying nothing?

it's funny how freaks refuse to wear shirts! gotta love it! white trash style baby!

god is in your head

Lcacique says on Mar 22, 22:02:

jajaja...That is Donny Campion, a great metal guitar player that has disappeared from the scene. The other guitarist played in Wasted Youth and now plays in Velvet Revolver. The drummer is in Orgy. The singer is in Goldfinger. Kelly, the bassist, played with Joey Ramone for a bit, MD.45 (w/ Dave Mustane and Lee Ving), 22 Jacks, Shrine (an incredible band), and Goldfinger. He is a friend and a great human being.

Nobody wore a shirt in socal in the late eighties and early nineties...jajaja

tejasmarcos says on Mar 23, 16:44:

damn. you are in the know 4 sure. one of the last refuges in the usa is the music. it is virtualy impossible to shed your musical roots, no matter where you end up. my girlfriend thinks my music is crazy as well as me sometimes. i love alot of the colombian music as well, it just takes a while to adjust to the new melodies and overall "feel" of the tunes.

rock on.......

Another cool fact about JW is that he was a close friend of John Belushi. Can you imagine those two hanging out together? Would have been some crazy times.

Here's the original lineup with Frey, Henley, Leadon and Meisner:

Lcacique says on Apr 7, 15:26:

That is some cool shit! But tejas, I thought this was swamp rock:

saw these guys open for Fu Manchu. Their single kinda grades on me because of the vocals, but live they kicked ass. Mainly because of the drummer. This vid is the greatest but try to keep your eyes on him. He constantly is either spinning sticks, throwing 'em, or standing up flippin' off the crowd! The guy absolutely kicks ass and it is well worth the price of admission just to check out his skills and entertainment/drumming!

Hoy se nota en la floresta un ambiente de alegría. ¡Y el rumor de ranchería es mas dulce y sabe a fiesta!

Lcacique says on Apr 7, 15:29:

p.s. love how the drummer plays sideways instead of facing the crowd!

tejasmarcos says on Apr 7, 18:21:

i've never seen a drummer take the stick that far behind his back! a bad ass indeed and with such a small drum setup.... atlanta, georgia, eh? sounds good.

i miss those grungy rathole clubs with good music. you get to drink, party and chat with the band later in the night. that is the part i miss most being in mde.

here is one of my favorite bands out of austin, texas (birmingham, alabama originally). they signed with sony way back, but that got screwed somehow. there is alot of politics and luck in the music biz. the majority of the best music never makes the airwaves, but you already know that....

being unique is what made him famous. i'm not a huge dillon fan, but he had a huge impact on music nonetheless. i have more appreciation for some of the artists he influenced and still influence to this day (and decades to come).
