kalder, help, please...

i stole this from another thread. how about translating for me? wtf does it mean?

"At the same age, growing up in the chilly climes of the Fife town of Kirkcaldy on the Firth of Forth"

sounds like some Fish Called Wanda bs to me. ;;)

It's something about kilts and ginger hair.

But actually old bean I shouldn't be rude about my Caledonian brothers, so I'll attempt a serious translation. Assuming you just need the nouns tackled, I shall gloss thus:

Fife- a county in eastern Scotland
Kirkcaldy- small town therein
Forth, the- a river that flows through Fife to the North Sea
Firth, the- the estuary mouth of above river

Incidentally, it may interest you to know that a lot of recreational sailing goes on at the Firth of Forth.

slguy,

It's not only to screw you colonials up. We do it to ourselves aswell. Try this Welsh place name (the longest place name in the world).

Llanfawrpwllgwyngyllogogerychwyrndrobwyllantysiliogogogoch

Which roughly translated means, "The church of St Mary in the hollow of white hazel trees near the rapid whirlpool of St Tysilios of the red cave".

Slightly different ... today I saw an all purpose cleaning material in my local La 14 called "Bum".
