In all the bad there is good in the year 2006

For the last 10 years I've been a daily drinker. With getting slightly drunk a couple of times a week. Smashed 3-4 times a year. I said early this year that I wanted to stop, as I wanted to pay more attention to my little girl. No one believed me. Maybe even I didn't believe me. Finally my prayers have been answered. For the last 3 months, I've lost the strong desire to drink. When I've had a couple of beers, they don't sit well anymore in my stomach. Now things even taste better. And beer doesn't. What a relief! Hope it continues.

Drinking didn't solve things. Just kind of put a glaze over things and kept me from attending to the current problem. It also gave my wife one less thing to pick on. It's a win win for me. And a big win for my daughter. Plus the doc's said I was putting a little fat on my liver. Stopping now will save it.

Today I saw all the people starting to buy booze at my friends store and when I came back to my barrio many have begun celibrating. It was a turn off to me. My wallet is fatter too.

Maybe one of the things that helped was looking at a photo of me when drunk. Not a good site.

I quit drinking for five years and it was the most boring five years of my life.

The hardest part about drinking is not so much drinking but control and moderation, none of which I know.

All that matters is that you are happy.

I'm a happy drunk.

2006 2007, heck I'm retired. Somedays I don't even remember what day of the week it is. Not important anymore. Don't pay attention to the trivial stuff. Baby Ok? Food in Fridg? Bills paid? Pipe ready for a load? Moto got gas? Computer up and running? Those are the important things. Funny how the relaxed life of Colombia can change a person. Did the wash yesterday. Waiting to fold cloths today. I was never that casual about things in the states. It was always push, push, push until you drop dead from exaustion at night.

My highs are spending time with my wife and family, doing photography, playing racquetball, and living life the way it should be lived. That's the best high in the world.

I can never remember the difference between Rip van Winkle and Rumpelstiltskin. Which one fell asleep for twenty years and which one could turn straw into gold? I had to look them up:

------------------------
An amiable man whose home and farm suffer from his lazy neglect, Rip van Winkle is loved by all but his wife. One autumn day he escapes his nagging wife by wandering up the mountains. After encountering strangely dressed men, rumored to be the ghosts of Henry Hudson's crew, who are playing nine-pins, and after drinking some of their liquor, he settles down under a shady tree and falls asleep. He wakes up twenty years later and returns to his village.
-----------------------

Sounds like Lowell.

I haven't had a drink or a hit in 23 years. The decision to quit was easily the best decision I have ever made.

an unusual morning on pbh...
every one else asleep at the wheel...
and, here I am.
That Prednisone/cortisone I've been taking for Sumac poisoning is becoming it's own poison in my system, I think. My arms/legs were covered with lesions a week ago. Only a lil itch-scratch here and there, now. Mostly gone. But, I think I've gained 6 lbs. while taking it... makes me want to eat the house down.

So, here I sit... ready to join the rest of everyone out there in beginning a DeToX of my own... maybe even give up the Sailor Jerry fire.

The Annual... Horoscopes came out a few days ago, and no... I don't live my life by that shtuff... but, sometimes consider it a fair guide/warning.... Says it's goin_to be a rather challenging year ahead. And, she and I are both the same signs! Oh! oh. But, so is the Dali Llama... so, if he can handle it, so can I.

Some of you can relate, I know; You/ I thought the 'challenging years' were just past! Back there 3, 4, or 5...7 years back. We survived those. We'll survive and thrive through 2008... with all due diligence.

Fruits all morning....Veggies in the afternoon evening...., and mix and match right, per the Fit For Life Book. Don't mix starches and proteins, at the same setting... for better digestion... for better health. No more meat & potatoes...

no more meat/eggs & arepas!

(There might be one other 'don't' on the mixing aspect, I'm forgetting... I'll catch it up later.)

I'm gonna start the year with a couple big bottles of this 'Lemonade Diet' that works real well:

The Juice of three or four lemons/limes.
A tablespoon of pure, unadulterated maple syrup.
Dust it heavily with the Red Cayenne pepper.
(My addition: slice two or three fresh garlic cloves and throw in the mix!)

All in a 24 ounce bottle.
Shake it up.
Fill to the top with good water.
Shake it up.
Sip til gone.
One a day... two a day... three a day... soon, .. you won't want for other foods.

Don't worry. You ain't gonna starve, or be malnourished,....you first world wart.... ja!

I would suggest that you give the bottle of rum away and not have any alcohol in the house for a few years.
