PBH / off topic: do your thing (travelguide, pictures) / post

Ho hum...

Oh dear. Pow wow just got himself deleted for starting a thread that suggested that physically appealing UK-based Colombianas are attracted to wealthy men. An adonyne enough thesis; but grounds for deletion?

well, the problem with pow wow is that he tends to generalized a lot

kalder says on May 22, 2008, 05:10:

Yes, he does. And probably to excess. But don't we all, when we chat? Compress our whirling thoughts into a manageable shorthand- generalise?

Kat1, my sister-in-law told me how wonderful that her 15-year-old daughter was dating a 25-year-old guy going to medical school "he's more mature, more stable than boys of her same age" I told her if my daughter (she was at the same age at the time) dated a 25-year-old guy I'd call the police. I 'd much better have her out and about with boys around her same age, the same background, the same friends, just as little experience.

She was in Colombia and got herself a boyfriend, a year or two older, they met at her fifteen-year -old party. I knew that she had "sort of" boyfriend in Sweden, so I asked her....she said...."Mum, I'm much too young to remain faithful to anybody:)" I agree, at 15 or 18 you should get to know a lot of boys and girls of your own age, hang out with friends, not to take life too seriously, go steady, nor have babies and bunch of responsibilities. Life is long and there's plenty of time for that other stuff.

ya know...i've been on pbh for about 8 years and never has the policing been more oppresive than now. what's the problem? are the posts that offensive, vulgar, off key, off the wall...or what?

OR, have we just become over zealous in expressing our defenseless prudishness and intolerance for the insights, opinions and feelings of others? many are acting like snitches and reporting fellow posters like a bad neighbor who calls the police because a dog barks.

yesterday, i noted a decision by the u.s. supreme court (falwell vs flynt) wherein flynt appealed a case which found him guilty of slandering rev. falwell by taking out a full page ad in some magazine, aledgedly a campari ad, stating that falwell's first sexual experience was with his mother....whew!, clearly, slanderous. well, the supreme court found on the side of flynt that it was within his right to basically say anything he wanted, as it was his 'right' of opinion and free speach as guaranteed under the constitution. his conviction was repealed.

now, it appears that a new england stylel witch-hunt and burning is going on and countless--even old--posters are being dragged off to the stocks. my posture and question is simply, why? are we so damn thin skinned that we can't even tolerate the more often than not opinions of others which are not those of ourselves? that is in direct conflict with the issues that prompted our forefathers more than 250 years ago to declare independence from a state which was equally oppressive. this is like one step forward and about 150, back.

not that i'm the poster of anyone's dreams or preference, but this ongoing issue and constant supervision by police out of control is becoming boring and distasteful to a fault. maybe that's why many of my old friends here on site, no longer post here...ie viewpoint, hunter, et al.

why don't we give the old addage, 'live and let live' or, 'let go, let GOD' become the order of the day and put up with and tolerate each other and each other's opinions a whole lot more. if not, the joy and uniqueness of this wonderful site will go the way of the whale.

I quite enjoy Powow/American/Tony Blair's posts and think that the actual content of what he says (when on a relevant Colombian topic) is quite interesting from a sociological point of view. He simply discusses what interests him and his own observations on Colombians in London. I just think it's his writing style that alienates people and if phrased differently would raise some interesting points. Of course it's a generalisation but it's very difficult to discuss trends without doing so.

I think if he he wants to discuss his experiences in the off-site section then there should be a chance for people to tell him how wrong he is.

Although saying that I'm not the subject of the generalisation and can understand why it would be offensive for all Colombians to be tarnished with the same brush!

colombians with their multi colored culture, habits, opinions, etc. are wide open to opinion from others no matter what those opinions may be. they're people and people are as varied as they are many.

powwow deleted again? i just don't get you guys. he stuck to your rules...posted only in offtopic, never insulted anyone, and brought something to the board besides cutnpaste and personal insults. no mods needed to follow him around, constantly deleting his rule-breaking posts. seems to me there are posters FAR more deserving of banishment than powwow - but they simply get rationalized. and powwow gets deleted for generalizing? whoever did it oughta be ashamed of themselves

revolt is in the hands of the oppressed. the staff should take note of the comments that are fomenting here. in eight years i've never seen anything like this. it's very easy to destroy, but it's proven, time and time again, that to build and sustain is most difficult.

if your above missif is a suggestion that i leave, if that is your wish, i will. just say so.
