Global cooling?

global warming hysteria will be to environmentalism what the fall of the Berlin Wall was to socialism. The environmentalists have invested so much of the credibility of their movement in the claim of runaway global warming, making it the whole organizing principle of a "green" lifestyle, that the failure of the world to warm will permanently discredit the whole movement.
And the world is, in fact, failing to warm. Global warming has been stalled for a decade now. Global temperatures reached their peak in 1998, and this year global temperatures are expected to cool. And now the first big crack in the global warming dogma has appeared: a German study, reported below, has confessed that scientists expect the global climate to continue cooling until 2015.
This study is an early attempt at damage control, an attempt to portray the new cooling trend as just a "temporary" respite which in no way invalidates the claim of a long-term warming trend. The problem is that the cooling trend is explained by real temperature data and known natural variations in climate—while the warming claims are based on speculative computer models.
And if we look just at the data, what we are being told is utterly implausible: that a projected 17-year cooling trend (from 1998 to 2015) is only "temporary," while a 25-year warming trend (from roughly 1973 to 1998) is supposed to be "permanent." It will soon become obvious that this distinction is entirely arbitrary.
To give you an idea of how worried the global warmers are, New York Times science reporter and global warming shill Andrew Revkin asks:
If the new forecast of a decade of cooler temperatures in North America and Europe pans out, it will pose a substantial challenge to climate campaigners, politicians, and citizens: Can they produce meaningful action to limit the long-term warming that scientists still say is clearly ahead under a building greenhouse blanket even when it's cooling outside?
Weather Channel founder and global warming skeptic John Coleman predicts that it will take "20 more years of weather data to totally wipe out the silliness." He continues:
It's been 30 years since the whole global warming thing (began) and by this time the oceans should be rising and the ice caps should be pretty well melted, and none of that's happening. Despite all the hype last year about the North polar ice cap melting away, it's frozen up bigger than it's been frozen up in 20 years at this moment. So, where in the heck's the beef? Where's the warming?
This same report indicates that Coleman is spearheading an effort to sue global warming prophet Al Gore for fraud for promoting (and profiting from) this great national hoax.
"Global Warming May 'Stop,' Scientists Predict," Charles Clover, Daily Telegraph, April 30

Global warming will stop until at least 2015 because of natural variations in the climate, scientists have said.
Researchers studying long-term changes in sea temperatures said they now expect a "lull" for up to a decade while natural variations in climate cancel out the increases caused by man-made greenhouse gas emissions.
The average temperature of the sea around Europe and North America is expected to cool slightly over the decade while the tropical Pacific remains unchanged.
This would mean that the 0.3°C global average temperature rise which has been predicted for the next decade by the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change may not happen, according to the paper published in the scientific journal Nature….
Noel Keenlyside of the Leibniz Institute of Marine Sciences…stressed that the results were just the initial findings from a new computer model of how the oceans behave over decades and it would be wholly misleading to infer that global warming, in the sense of the enhanced greenhouse effect from increased carbon emissions, had gone away.

Of course there has been global warming recently, it is called spring. And experts predict it will get even warmer as we move into summer ;))

slguy says on May 2, 2008, 08:08:

there has never been a scintilla of credible scientific evidence linking global warming to carbon, or any other, emissions.

there have been, and continue to be, billions of dollars made by the environmental fearmongers.

Global warming is a hugeeee business...Did you know that General Electric has millions of dollars invested in "green Technology" and THEY not the oil companies have the biggest lobbing group in washington. They have been a big promoter of this bullshit and stand to make alottttt of money

All right, I'll ask: How come it took three seconds to euthanize Eight Belles, but the Womens NBA is starting Year 12???

Slowly one of the greastest scams in world is being brought to light. Ive noticed that the media is starting to pick up on it...we need to stop this before it ruins our economy and stop the environmentalist from putting us back into the stone ages.

There is a silver lining to the Global Warming miscalculations and misinterpretations. That is a renewed focus on the environment.

While I have never bought the Chicken Little 'Sky is Falling' segment of the scientific community's exclamations about what have historically been the natural warming and cooling of the earth as a result of a variety of non-human factors; I do believe that our air, lakes, oceans and food sources have been seriously contaminated.

From your favorite lake that has no fish; to the sinus medicine you suddenly have to take every summer; to the smell coming from your favorite stream; our lifestyle and health is being compromised.

As a response to the 'Global Warmers' we are seeing the bleeding of interest beyond just carbons to a heightened interest in the state of the environment as a whole. This has been a good thing.
I don't see Al Gore as the new Rachel Carson (you remember Al, before he was the Global Warming front man, he was busy inventing the internet..haha); but he and his cohorts have indirectly helped all of us.

Now, if they could tone down the 'warming rhetoric' and focus soley on the aspects of our industries and habits that are negatively effecting our lives and the lives of our children.

A cure for cancer? Doctors are working day and night on it. In the interests of humanity; to push the boundaries of medical science; for the glory; the inevitable Nobel Prize etc. etc.

If discovered, of course they'll bring it out.

Rachel, her book and the junk science surrounding it are partially responsible for tens of millions of deaths by malaria over the last several decades. Now the agencies and charities fighting malaria are recommending, yep, you guessed it - DDT - as the most effective measure to prevent unnecessary suffering, death and poverty.

kalder says on May 6, 2008, 08:14:

I agree with you totally on that one Tinto.

It is patently not illegal to declare you have a cure for cancer. If you can prove that you have actually done so. Otherwise the pioneers of invasive surgery, chemo and radiotherapy would be doing porridge.

The biggest villains in that game are the snake-oil salesmen who flog all that New Age, 'alternative medicine' crap; exploiting the credulity of the stupid and the fear of the desperate.

'merican... I tend to agree with you... but... before entering professional training, I also remember reading a book about the results that 'WITCHDOCTORS' in Africa get; it's about the same or even better than the AMERICAN WHITE WHICH DOCTORS... SO..... even when you're not sure about which doctors... even they can sometimes derive good results.
But... I know where you're coming from and tend to agree.... BUT.....

and, thank you.

american- you can say 'cure'; if you can prove you've got one.

My mother had cancer and was cured. And not by shamen, wizards or elves. But by doctors.

podborski says on May 7, 2008, 04:29:

interesting, I just met a guy who is down here selling GE's 'clean' power generating equiptment. I think it's probably a potentially huge busines for them.

For example, the guy was saying if they had these units in place they would have BOUGHT all the grass that the farmers recklessly burned, which caused massive pollution, and that would have been enough energy to power a town of 50,000 for a year. And supposedly they do it in a relatively clean, efficient way.

So GE definitely has an interest in the environmental angle...and I bet it's in the billions of dollars, not millions.

Anyway, these little power units this guy is selling sound like a great idea, he says they pay for themselves in 5 years, and GE of course finances them. A lot better idea than having governments build massive plants that are over budget and over staffed and over everything...

You may be right, esanch, but it would take more this compelling article to convince me. I do agree green movements can make melodramatic claims. So can big oil. But if you win over the conspiracy theory contingent and those who like Colombia you'll have gone a long way towards reversing the tide.
