aahhh memories of cruising around town in '84 or so terrorizing the city on my skateboard with my walkman on.

Another classic off the album for ya tejas:

Hoy se nota en la floresta un ambiente de alegría. ¡Y el rumor de ranchería es mas dulce y sabe a fiesta!

tejas, I thought you'd enjoy this David Lee Roth interview. He is totally wasted and I love the last story he tells about jumping out of a window...cracks me up.

What's up with the outfit?

I am in my thirties now, aztec. And I was sponsored back in the day, thank you. Or is there something shameful about skateboarding?

No not at all. I was jealous that I never had the exhilaration of the sport. We only had "roller skates"!

Sorry to hijack the post again, tejas. But for some reason you posting that song took me back and I hit youtube for awhile. I am not a real fan of Def Leppard...really I only ever liked High and Dry (their 2nd album) and maybe a couple of the songs on their 1st and 3rd releases (on Pyromania you could see the decline in my opinion and even though people seemed to love it and their later stuff I couldn't quite stomach it)...anyway I thought I'd post a classic off of High and Dry.

I was pissed when they fired Pete Willis (the dark haired guitarist).

Sorry aztec, both for thinking you were being condescending and for the fact that you lived in a world without skateboards. I was rarely afforded the opportunity to surf so skateboarding was the next best thing.

I remember Angus saying that people often say that ACDC was guilty of writing 11 albums that all sound the same; however, he called them all liars and said that they actually wrote 12 albums that all sounded the same...jajaja. What a good sport!

Ah, why not? Check out this kid. A few mistakes, but he is twelve and the idiots in the background probably distracted him a bit.

He does pretty damn good on the solo!

aaah, skateboarding.....when we had our store in palm springs (calif) used to go out to the flood canals coming down from mt. san gorgonio, sweep em down and ride our asses off. the boys were a whole lot more ballsy then me. they'd ride the walls and come crashing down into the bottom pullin out beautifully. the only problem is/was. one damn pebble, and you're eatin cement.

i never bothered watching the movie, tejas. I saw the documentary about the same cats called "Dogtown and Z-Boys." It was incredible to see such old footage because I grew up in awe of those guys. They were the first wave of skaters to revolutionize skateboarding. I had a friend that skated as a semi-pro for Alva. Tony got my number through mutual friends because I was building a ramp, but he was actually looking for another friend of mine with the same first name that was building a halfpipe. Needless to say I gave him the number and skated with him later that day.

From the next wave I really loved both Mark Gonzales and Natas Kaupas, 2 guys who are largely responisble for how skating is done today. Here's some mixed footage of Mark:

And part 2 of a cool bio on Natas from youtube:

If you haven't seen the Dogtown documentary and you liked the Lords of Dogtown tejas, I totally recommend it. Crazy old seventies footage...

Lords of Dogtown was filmed just a couple of years ago (2006), but it was based on a documentary (Dogtown and Z-Boys) that was filmed right before it. The documentary includes a lot of archival footage from the 70s and it is narrated by Sean Penn. Also has a great soundtrack. it is a top-notch documentary and anyone remotely interested in Skateboarding would find it interesting.

The reason I have not watched the movie, Lords of Dogtown, is because I generally prefer a good documentary to a film on historical events. It is sometimes difficult for me to accept that the actors are the characters (i.e. Val Kilmar playing Jim Morrison in the Doors movie, but looking a lot like Andy Gibb, jajaja. That was a good movie, though). But since several have mentioned it Lords of Dogtown, I'll check it out.

The two vids I posted...Mark's footage is compiled of some footage from the 80's and 90's and some recent footage. The stuff of Natas is all from the mid to late eighties.

MaFe, you are too kind. We could fill this entire site writing out all of the wonderful characteristics that you possess!

tejas, you ever hear of Morrow Snowboards? The founder, Rob Morrow, was a good friend. We used to play shows at his warehouse on top of a halfpipe while kids would party and skate. I also knew a lot of people from Bonfire Snowboards. Personally, I never got into the sport that much but I do enjoy it from time to time.

Morrow's were big back in the day. He was somewhat of a pioneer. These days they are not as popular of a company.
