I really don't care what an individual "thinks". But our government doles out a lot of money based on race. I think there should be a clear definition...period. If for no other reason than to distribute money correctly. I have a basic fundamental problem with an individual being able to select their race in the upcoming census.

I do understand the spirit of the concept; however, it is deeply flawed. Just because my niece adopts and raises a black child and that child "identifies" with white society...does not make the child white...period.

Lacac...they actually had a law on the Louisiana books as recently as 1980 defining "black" as a race. There was a woman who went for a passport and was "shocked" to discover that she was black. In Louisiana at the time if you were more than 1/32 black that was the race you were.

She took it to the high court and was shot down.

Personally, I think race should be set aside altogether as well as "special racially motivated" grants.

BUT if you are going to say that black people deserve the financial set asides...well you gotta define black.

Buffet believes that we need to now help most those who are suffering, not those who are thriving. Once we get this thing turned around, eventually, we can turn slowly back toward helping those at the top to thrive. I have no idea what will happen in October, or in November, but I think we need to take a balanced approach to this crisis, without any preconceived ideas of what has come before.
