I do like baseball though. The St. Louis Cardinals is my team. Lived there for 10 years during the '80's. Saw game 5 of the 1987 World Series with SRO tickets. What a blast.

I never feel comfortable with a good lead against a talented team like Fl. State, because that's why we love college ball. These kids are 18 and 19 and 20, and the momentum shifts on a dime, and it seems there is nothin they can do to stop it. (And, I am not necessarily a tiger fan, but) I doubt Va Tech has EVER been in an environment like they are about to witness, when they step into DEATH VALLEY.

I'm not being cruel, but I can guarantee ya, it's time to forget about what happened at V-Tech, once the whistle blows. I'm wondering/hoping they are kind enough though, for a moment to have a moment of silence at the front of the game, .. in remembrance of those who lost their lives.

Looks now as though the best 2 teams in the south, including Florida, and except for LSU only, are the two from SC, Clemson and USC. GS...from what I've seen so far LSU has the best team. They are scary good. I think the only potential roadblock is Florida but I still think LSU wins out.

As for Alabama, the first loss comes Saturday against the Hogs...hope I'm wrong though. It'll take Saban a couple of years to have a kick ass team.
I'd hate to be him next year when the Tide goes to Red Stick aka Baton Rouge.

GS, just because I am from the Palmetto state does not mean I am a Carolina fan. They are Clemson's primary rival, and we don't like 'em at all. It's often a brother versus brother brawl when they play, cause we all have family and friends with attachments to both schools.

Christo-, I know usually it's not smart to count the chickens... beforehand, but... being 'an out-sider' myself... and listening to what I have been hearing... I think you can rest assured: I would imagine LSU is gonna scorch 'em.

In the mean time... the STM Cougars move up to # 4 IN THE STATE 5-A CLASSIFICATION... the largest in the state. Now... if my son was 6', 230 lbs..... Well, after all the bantering about defense...
The offense promptly through an intereception at the 10 yard line to open the game on the second play... and then BAM! down 0-6! with blocked kick. and as usual,.. the D and special teams made the plays to pull off the V, 31-12 and remain undefeated at 4-0.

It won't be easy.
But, it feels good for now :-))

first loss, 10-13... other team scored with about 3 minutes remaining,... after we had lead 10-7, since about half way through the first quarter. Lots of blown chances, with some big plays. A weak offensive line will kill ya. We always have to have big plays on special teams/defense. Our defense was on the field all night. Not use to that. Obviously, the D we faced was quite good, as well. The first 'district game'. Probably one of the two toughest games we have all year, til playoffs.

(Of course, the ref's were bad!) ;-))

What a season thus far, in college football. I was pretty sure LSU would lose a game. Now it's great because noone is dominant, and the remaining undefeated teams are mostly newbies, so they likely will not hold up.
This may be THE season that forces a playoff system.
It's the first season I have witnessed where extreme upsets are not uncommon at all.

In the wackiest of all college football seasons, there's plenty of blame to go around for this year's unexpected chaos. And very few teams have escaped unscathed.

In a year when Connecticut, a basketball school, has seven more wins than Notre Dame, nothing's a sure thing (re: Appalachian State).

The only thing for certain is that, given enough degrees of separation, this week's combatants in the Sun Belt Conference's battle for Louisiana could both be at the top of the BCS rankings, awaiting their shot at the national championship.
It could happen. After all, UL Monroe and LSU are all even in separation degrees. Both beat Alabama by seven points, and the Warhawks didn't need last-minute help or a deep-seated hatred of Nick Saban.

If the Cajuns should beat ULM this Saturday, on the home turf at Cajun Field, why couldn't they claim the number one ranking? Since nobody understands the BCS percentages anyway, we could probably slip the Warhawks or the Cajuns in there and no one would notice.

After all, ULM beat Alabama, after the Tide embarrassed Tennessee, which won by two touchdowns over Mississippi State, which beat Kentucky 31-14. And we know what happened when the top-ranked Tigers went to Lexington.

Hey, stranger things have happened this season. Six No. 2-ranked teams have lost games to heavy underdogs, Nebraska gave up 73 points to Kansas State, and K-State isn't even the best team in Kansas. The last time the Jayhawks were 11-0, Danny Manning was playing on the wing.

We need Al Gore to figure all this out. This is a lot more complex than global warming, and not far behind fixing the holiday traffic problem around the Mall of Acadiana.

There has to be a reason for the Big 12 and the Pac-10 not fulfilling bowl obligations, and South Florida being ranked by front-running poll voters as high as second nationally until common sense prevailed.

Hours after ApState topped Michigan during opening weekend - a harbinger of things to come in this season of no rhyme or reason - coaches blamed the scholarship limits. That lasted for four weeks until ApState lost to noted scholarship hoarder Wofford.

Many cited the spread offense as the culprit. In that offense, teams need only a handful of skill players and a passable offensive front to be competitive. It used to be that the spread was the domain of coaches wearing leis and flowered shirts, or those sentenced to live in West Virginia. Now it's not just June Jones and Rich Rodriguez that are driving defenses crazy.

To those blaming the spread, we cite Navy, the antithesis of everything new-school, the guys that beat Notre Dame after losing to Ball State and Wake Forest. But Navy would've lost to North Texas if the Mean Green could stop a stiff wind.

Maybe we should blame ESPN and every-night football. The more TV games that are out there, the more schools get exposure and the more elite high school athletes might consider going to Tulsa, now 8-3 and winners of four in a row - putting themselves only degrees of separation from unseating UL and ULM for the national crown.

Speaking of odd-night football, blame Middle Tennessee. The Blue Raiders were a few degrees of separation from a national title themselves, but that was before their football and basketball teams lost by a combined 158-47 within minutes of each other Tuesday night.

We could blame LSU for all this insanity. Les Miles' squad, when hitting on all cylinders, is two or three touchdowns better than anyone in the country. Yet the Tigers also lost to a basketball school and have perfected the art of needlessly making games close. And Miles still scares small children and talk-show callers with his giant hat, under which is enough cash for a contract buyout and a one-way plane ticket to Ann Arbor.

While we're at it, blame Saban. Everyone else is these days. By the way, there are online sites where you can order "Mike Shula Never Lost to a Sun Belt Team" T-shirts.

It was Saban who added to all this turmoil when he managed to bring the nation's most bowl-successful program in history down to Sun Belt level. Those that were shocked at UL Monroe's 21-14 win over the Crimson Tide - and the fact that a $4 million coach could lose to one making $150K - shouldn't be. It's been that kind of season.

So after you finish a third helping of dressing today and your holiday shopping Friday, come to Cajun Field Saturday and watch either the Cajuns or the Warhawks stay alive for the national championship. That is, until Florida International wins and rightly claims its share of the title.

I read some of the reviews for Cholera from Colombia and they were mixed to negative. But that was such a hard book to make an interesting movie out of.

NEW ORLEANS — Jordan Jefferson and Demaris Johnson made big plays all year long for Destrehan High. Anyone who thought a state championship game would be the exception was sadly mistaken.

The duo combined for an exceptional 436 total yards and five touchdowns, leading Destrehan to a 41-21 victory over Acadiana in the 5A title game that concluded the Louisiana High School Athletic Association-State Farm Prep Classic on Saturday night at the Louisiana Superdome.

Jefferson, who is committed to LSU, competed 10 of 13 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns. The 6-foot-4 quarterback also had 32 rushing yards and one TD.

Johnson, a 5-9 receiver, finished with 94 yards rushing on five carries, including scoring runs of 12 and 16 yards. He also had four catches for 44 yards as Destrehan (15-0) finished the season unbeaten and won its first state title since 1973. John was voted the title-game’s Outstanding Player for Destrehan.

Jonathan Morvant was voted Acadiana’s Outstanding Player after going 4-of-7 for 58 yards passig and rushing for 48 yards. John Dean added 79 yards rushing and a TD for AHS. It was the third straight title-game appearance for Acadiana, the 2006 5A champion.

The Destrehan offense worked with computer-like precision from the opening kickoff. The Wildcats scored on all four of their first-half possessions, building a 28-14 lead.

Johnson took a lateral from Jefferson and darted down the right sideline and back across the middle, gaining 46 yards, on the game’s third scrimmage play. Jefferson scored on a 1-yard run and led 6-0 with 8:45 still left in the first quarter.

Acadiana countered with its best drive of the half. The Wreckin’ Rams held the ball for 9:21 during a 16-play, 70-yard drive. Morvant’s 14-yard pass to Keaven Breaux that gave AHS a first-and-goal at the DHS 5 was the only play of 10 yards or more.

Dean scored on a 1-yard run at the 11:24 mark of the second quarter and Drew Alleman tacked on the point-after kick to give Acadiana a 7-6 lead.

Then back came Destrehan. The Wildcats covered 80 yards in nine plays. Jefferson completed a 25-yard pass to Johnson, who later scored on a 12-yard run. Jefferson’s two-point PAT pass to Tim Molton gave Destrehan a 14-7 lead with 8:14 remaining in the half.

Next came an injury that sidelined Acadiana’s Morvant. On the Rams first play after the ensuing kick Morvant was injured when he was sacked by DHS’ Jerico Nelson.

As a result, the Wildcats forced Acadiana to punt out of its own end zone. Destrehan took over at midfield and six again six plays later. Johnson ran 19 yards on a reverse, setting up a 10-yard scoring run by Nelson, making it a 20-7 game with 3:33 left in the half.

Acadiana came up with a big play when back-up quarterback Louis Hollier tossed a 54-yard TD pass to Desmond Sam. Alleman’s PAT pulled the Rams to within six, at 20-14, with 1:44 to go in the half.

Jefferson quickly countered, lofting an 80-yard TD pass to Molton, another player committed to LSU, on the next scrimmage play. Jefferson also ran for the PAT and Destrehan had a 28-14 lead just 11 seconds after Acadiana’s score, making it 28-14.

Morvant came back in the second half and engineered a 61-yard TD drive to open the half. Morvant’s 10-yard TD pass to Spencer Trahan pulled the Rams within seven, at 28-21, with 6:58 left in the third quarter.

It looked like the Destrehan would be forced to give the ball up quickly on its next possession. But Molton’s punt bounced backwards and hit an Acadiana player, making it a live ball. Destrehan’s Brian Blackwell recovered at the AHS 37, leading to a 33-yard Jefferson to Brandon Armstrong, giving the Wildcats a 35-21 lead at the 3:17 mark in the third quarter.

Destrehan was hardly done yet. The Wildcats got the ball right back after an Acadiana punt to midfield. A 34-yard run by Jefferson set up Johnson’s 16-yard TD run on a reverse with 49 seconds left that made it a 41-21 game.

After week one, the SEC seems redeemed, and USC seems renowned, but I don't buy that this will all play out. I am thinking that the ACC is not as bad as it seems, that the SEC is the best conference, with the PAC 10 second, and that those trends change every few years.
The mid majors as possible contenders seems lost now, but that will likely come back up. Remember Boise State stunning Oklahoma a couple of years ago?

well, once a gov't with no money, and alot of debt, prints out 700 billion, who would notice a little pork the size of buying us a good coach at 10 million or so. wtf, we'll buy you Volunteers one while we are printing the crisp new bills tg. Our grandkids can talk about how great our teams were one day, while working 2 or 3 shifts at the Waffle House.
