CELL PHONE EMERGENCY ADVICE - 5 Things you never knew your cell phone could do

I just had this information sent to me by a fairly reliable resource. The Remote key info is interesting. I have never tried this...but maybe you have headr of it. Or maybe it could help you - here goes:

5 THINGS YOU NEVER KNEW YOUR CELL PHONE COULD DO
There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies. Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival:

FIRST
The Emergency Number
worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile, network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out.

SECOND
Have you locked your keys in the car?
Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday.
If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their cell phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other
'remote' for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).
Editor's Note: 'It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a cell phone!'

THIRD
Hidden Battery Power.
Imagine your cell battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370#
Your cell will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a
50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge
your cell next time.

FOURTH
How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone? To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone: * # 0 6 #, a 15 digit code appears on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. When your phone get stolen, you can phone your service
provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.

And Finally....
FIFTH
Free Directory Service for Cells Cell phone companies are charging us $1.00
to $1.75 or more for 411 information calls when they don't have to. When you need to use the 411 information option, simply dial: (800) FREE 411, or (800) 373-3411 without incurring any charge at all. Program this into your cell phone now.

OK that's all she wrote....have fun

and, thank you.

Mario says on Feb 19, 2008, 21:12:

I especially like the second tip. COOL info CG!!!

The fourth item didn't work though...

Mario says on Feb 19, 2008, 21:18:

Nor the third. someone's been yankin' your tail...

Robert Jorge says on Feb 19, 2008, 22:43:

Number 2 might work. I just tried it out. It worked, but the car was in the driveway and the wife hit the unlock button from a far, upstairs bedroom.

I remember getting an Email with these same tips a couple of years ago. I never tried any of them out.

LOL - I can open my car from about a block away with my remote. Take your car around the block (w/ building obstruction) and then try it.

Well, I am glad it worked, as I said I never tried, just thought I would share. My source is pretty cell phone protection saavy so I figured it was reliable.
On item #4 ? did you add the * before the #?
It was hard to tell how the formatting would end up after I pasted it. i will double check and correct. Has anyone tried the free 411?
I especially like the idea of making sure my cell phone was not reused -LOL

Huskie: I Dont know...it does not specify. I will double check and see if I missed something in my email. I tried to edit it before I posted ....

Glad it was helpful!

and, thank you.

msaucey says on Feb 20, 2008, 21:30:

CG, I could have totally used the following this weekend... #1, 2, 3, 5....

#1 - could have been handy when our 911 lines went down...
#2 - locked my keys in the car in Big Bear... Actually, I think I would need to train the dogs to learn how to use the phone and then how to use the remote for the spare keys....Completely possible....
#3 - Battery was drained while in Big Bear, so I left it in the car... Had I know of the reserve I wouldn't have left the phone in the car, so that when I locked myself out, I wouldn't have to ask someone to let me borrow their phone...
#5 - Would have been nice to know this number, since the lame ass people at the concession stand didn't know the number to AAA, but fortunately the nice lady that let me borrower her cell phone had AAA number!

Thanks CG....

Oh! I forgot - please note the date on the post and note the following

1) I "unknowlingly" received this email to a previous address that is now horrifically infected from a few emails I received throught PBH...or at least the emails indicated they were from PBH. Either way..The email "name" in the from section had been "spoofed"...as many others had been that were sent to me. Either chopped up, spoofed addresses or IP addresses from overseas.
2) I posted it believing it "was" sent by a person that is reliable BTW
3) I did not state this as a FACT - even when I posted it
4) I only recently learned of Snopes
5) Sunshine - you need a massage - relax

All good now?

geez
