PBH / off topic: do your thing (travelguide, pictures) / post

Any married people here?

I just finished editing my son's college essays. There were two of them. One was on relationships and the other on the life of single people. Oh, yes, he's turning 20 years old next month.

Let me tell you, I didn't edit content, just the mechanics of his prose and reworded some of his sentences . My wife reviews his content and questions his assumptions. His stuff is unbelievably funny and made me think of the stuff I read here.

Nope plato. . . but a kid can´t deny reallity, as much adults do. I get wonder, everytime my nephews ask why?. . and I get a smile, and try to explain it. . . nice feeling.

Morphus, thanks for the site. It's hysterically funny! Many things true.

Yeah, marriage is tough but rewarding if you're with the right person - the person whose bullshit you're willing to put up with. Of course, they have to put with your bullshit too. What else can I say? I'm telling you, married folks and singles folks look at things differently. For example, what does love mean to each?

I say that kids are tunned with reality, becouse they don´t live on denial as many adults do. It´s kinda freaky, when we read news like: "economy rises", but we see people starving to death in our streets. Or when we see fully grown people selling to us candies in our buses. (Even worse when we see kids asking money in every corner of my beloved bogotá) That´s living on denial.

If a kid see too much tv, that will become his/her reality. (this is just an exmaple I don´t wanna touch any sensitive points . . ok?) That´s the only thing he/she knows ergo the only thoughts and behave you can expect it´s some crazy copy-cats from "power rangers", try to fly, been noisy all the tiem and words like "buy me max steel" and things like that.

But if a kid reads, do other things, or as my granny used to say ". . .it´s good for a child to eat dirt, so he will now the difference when he grow up. . ." and see whats going on with the world, and WE ADULTS ASK THEM ABOUT IT HIS/HER OWN OPINIONS their little spotless minds can really blow-up our thoughts. One of the most irritating things (at least for me. . ) I see everyday on streets, it´s the bitter mom say "shhhhhh" to a kid. It´s more intelligent with him negotiate, playing in his/her own rules. I´m not talking about bribery (ice cream, milkshake, pizza, toys. . .). And it´s nice see them try to overcome us. Some we will win and some we will lose, but that will grow confidence on any kid. And soon he/she will be able to fly alone. If a parent are lucky, they become friends. . . if not. Sorry, you´re on your own again.

Who is living in denial about poverty in the streets? Adults? I’m don’t understand your point here Capitan.

But it’s our job as adults and parents to teach children what’s reality and what’s not. (It takes a community to raise a child - this means you too Uncle Capitan.)

Yes, I agree here.

I agree here for the most part but there is something to be said about experience –which children don’t have, at least as much as their parents - that can help prevent kids from getting seriously hurt or make stupid mistakes.
