His name is Elliot Smith. He received quite a bit of critical acclaim for his solo records and he was nominated for a grammy for the Good Will hunting soundtrack (lost out to Celene Dion?!? for the Titantic).

Starting with Ike Turner doing '88 in 1951 (or Bill Haley's version same year) that's 57 years of rock n roll to choose from. That's really, really tough.

Shit, it would even be tough for just the best 100 songs of the 'British Invasion' or the best 100 of the 70's.

I'd put the Ramones on before alot of the bands that have been mentioned, tejas. I don't know if they'd make my top 100, but they'd be ahead of Bryan Adams, Jethro Tull (I'm just not into flutes and elves), Journey, Chicago (or any bands named after states or cities), Moody Blues (creeped me out as a kid), Eddie Money, Montrose, etc.

That's just my opinion. Music is subjective, so my opinion should mean squat to anybody here. Plus my list would include tons of artists that most people here would dislike.

But you're right tejas, if this is just a genre top 100, then maybe some of those bands are deserving...
