A Poltical Cartoon on Senator Barack Obama and his Wife

“The Politics of Fear?" July 21, 2008. from the New Yorker Magazine

http://www.newyorker.com/online/covers/slideshow_blittcovers?slide=1

This well-written but left-leaning magazine depicts Senator Barack Obama and his wife this way.

Ahhh, political theater is the best!

I think given the circumstances and the sensitivity with all the bs behind obamas supposed muslim heritage i think they may have gone too far.

one thing for sure, it will only make things worse with the few ignorant country racist caucasians out in middle america and in many places in the south.

it surely doesnt help obama

Why all the fuss about Obama? Like he's some sort of Messiah figure? He just looks like another oily, moneyed, liberal lawyer to me. (Rather similar to the creeps who run Britain in fact.)

as the economist pointed out, there is a balance of two forces that make him want to be president. One is idealism and the second is ambition. Sadly, for me his ambition has overrun his idealism for me to want to vote for him. Maybe against McCain... regardless, I have no voting say.

Needless to say, the Obama camp is pissed. Many Americans don't read the news in--depth and the cartoon will actually register as depicted. If they only knew that the purpose of the satirical cartoon was to make fun of those shallow Americans. In the end, this hurts Obama.

What constitutes his 'idealism'? The leftie stuff over here tends to be against real things like family, heritage and nation and for abstractions like 'progress' and 'diversity'.

aztec how the fuck you gonna know wether i am prejudice or not. i can only speak from what ive been told and what i have seen with my own eyes. ive been out there. i also have friends in many states who reinforce the bs i described earlier. im not sure what world you live in if you think this type of ignorance does not exist.

im not sure why you would mention my mother. are you trying to get personal with me?

i mentioned middle america and south. i could have gone on and written a more inclusive post and mentioned the racist individuals in the east coast and west coast and blah blah blah. but its really amazing how you choose to ignore the point of my post. everyone has been talking about this issue with many caucasians in these rural areas who still believe he is a muslim, that he attended islamic schools, and all that other bullshit. but you wanna have a hissy fit cus i mentioned the south.

give me fuckin break........ and please keep it btwn me and you and dont mention my mother.

Plato, I bet you did not know that the Northern aggressors occupied the South for ten years. That is longer than the United States occupied either Germany of Japan after the Big War! In effect the war did not end for the residents of the South in 1864/5.

I am fortunate to remember my great grand mother (who was in her ninety's) talk about her father who disappeared when Sherman made his way through Georgia. Never to be seen again. She recalled when she was young, the soldiers came to her farm and slaughtered every living thing on the farm. There were no men around. Only women and children.

For ten years after the war of aggression our Representatives in the Georgia legislature were predominately Black selected by the carpet baggers!

And MitchAlvarez, I mean no disrespect to your mother. If you think so, I apologize. Since I cannot read Spanish I ran your statement written in Spanish through Google translator and it showed you referred to your mom.

Nobody has to like what that rag did for a cartoon, but they should be still free to do it, no matter what their motives were.

Satire, whether done in good taste or bad taste, is just part of the deal for those who aspire to high office. Was that doctored video of Monica Lewinsky giving Clinton a blow job any better? Was that in good taste or bad taste? It always depends on one's point of view. I seem to recall other cartoons about that too.

High ranking politicians get trashed all the time. If people want to make fun of Obama's heritage, that's too bad. People are doing that to southern whites, so why not Obama too? However, probably more effective would be to lampoon what some people call his messiah complex. I don't care. It's all part of the game.

Anything goes for others too (like lampooning GWB's cowboy caricature). Obama should be no different. If he doesn't like it, then tough shit for him.

I guess that cartoon of McCain doesn't help him either.

But, as he is aspiring for high political office, so as far as I am concerned, anything goes.

No doubt McCain's supporters would claim this to be in bad taste too.

Tough shit for them.
