walter comments on Fiance pregnant

Delta Airlines Bogota Pregnant Fiancee Anyone know if Delta will let her fly with a approved Doctor's letter?

She is 36 weeks..Thanks Don

walter comments on K1 visa mailed or picked up next day?

Told to Pick up, They were not ready to deliver Today was the day we went to the Embassy to do as they instructed. 4pm, pick up your fiancee visa. Unfortunately, they said the visa was not ready yet, not cleared, they needed more time, etc.etc..

What a crock of shh... Wasted my money and time going all the way up to the US Embassy in Bogota for their scheduled appointment. They told us to come back again tomorrow, but with no promise to deliver. I hope that me and my fiancee don't waste our time again. She is 36 weeks pregnant. Walter

walter comments on She's pregnant, I-129F benificiary question

Hello bbattiste But you were married? You did exactly what they wanted. marriage certificate, birth certificate. All I will have is a fiancee visa in her passport and our son's birth certificate with our names as the parents. What do you think?

walter comments on She's pregnant, I-129F benificiary question

Here in Bogota with my Pregnant fiancee Well it looks like maybe my son will be born here. But I just did read the US Embassy website. They say that I need a marriage cerificate to get my son his passport and citizenship registered. But I am not sure how it will work for us. He is my son. But she is my fiancee with an approved K-1 visa. Does anyone know if my son will get his citizenship even though we are not legally married yet, but we are planning to do so in the states with her fiancee visa?

walter comments on Can my colombian fiancee use US Medicaid benefit?

Well I just found out.. Blue Cross won't cover her. She has to be in the USA for 6 months as a residence here..and she can't qualify being pregnant. Blue Cross of Georgia stated this. Then they recommended me a special company for foreign vistors. And they said no. She is 7 months pregnant and that was their reason they could no approved and you must have their insurance for a year before being qualified to you maternal benefits.

So, I am stuck with Medicaid, no medical insurance company will cover my fiancee and our baby.

I hear you guys saying that Colombia is the best option. But me and my fiancee really don't want that. We want our son to be born in the USA, Georgia. I am aware of the hospitals and medical care in Colombia, its good and its cheap. I have used it before. Its not a factor in our decision.

Thanks again
walter

walter comments on Can my colombian fiancee use US Medicaid benefit?

So.... if me and my future wife decide to have our son born in the USA, we are going to PAY BIG? is that what I am understand? She can't get medical insurance because she is 7 months pregnant, Can't use medicaid because I signed the affadavit of support on my fiancee visa and I agreed to pay COLD CASH for her pregnancy. There has to be a financially reasonable solution to having our son born here in the USA. Anyone's advice is appreciated...

walter comments on Can my colombian fiancee use US Medicaid benefit?

But she is eligible???miamimike If you are legal pregnant immigrant, you qualify from what I got in my research. But I am wondering how this affadavit of support will come in play?

walter comments on Can my colombian fiancee use US Medicaid benefit?

Thanks to you all. Well, I learned many options from all of you. And I do appreciate your time and concern. I am glad to hear she qualifies for medicaid in the state of Georgia.

Some of you said I would have to pay back the government for the medicaid she used? Hmmm are you sure about that? By property that I own or sell?

walter comments on Is Colombia Dangerous now? Claro Que Si

CORRECTION ON MY STATEMENT HE (NOT I) promised to find this colombian policeman and take care of him. I thought that was bull. The only reason my gringo butt got off is because my wife knows people in Cali.

walter comments on Is Colombia Dangerous now? Claro Que Si

For Sam Salmon "I promised to find this colo
"I promised to find this colombian policeman and take care of him."
Bad idea-very fucking bad idea!!!
And you said this out loud in front of other people?
I suggest you find another place to live for a while-your big stupid mouth is going to do you in one way or the other.
' a la orden!'
By Sam Salmon at Wed, 12/28/2005 - 05:31 | reply

No, NO NO SAM... That isn't want I wanted to say or meant to say. What I meant, and I screwed up on my typing..is the DAS GUY...He promised to find the colombian policeman and would take care of him for being out of line with an extranjero...for no legitimate reason.... My wife was more pissed off than I...She was embarrassed and angry at her own country police...and they way they treated me..Me, I was like...These guys are 20-26 years old..young, ignorant and probably for the first time in their life...they felt they had power..due to the guns and they could do anything..I can kind of relate to them when I was a young new sergeant in the military 15 years ago..
Take care Don

For rapi2000 Well, at this time Rapi2000, we were in Buenaventura...couple hour drive, if I remember right..from cali...My was working there at the time. So the cops there are littel bit more different than in a major city like cali. I quess?

One guy just wanted to check me out..since I was not a usual in that neighborhood...me and my wife just moved there due to her job. And once he found out, where i was from and who I was with my passport...that is all she wrote for that incident...Thanks for your words..Chao

walter comments on Is Colombia Dangerous now? Claro Que Si

Maybe ??? You go driving from Medellin to Cali in the night, I can almost guarantee you, you will not say "maybe" anymore . Dude, my wife is from Cali, Colombia. And she has stories to tell you that are true. And it wasn't for the IPOD when I made that statement. It was for my pesos in my wallet, my beautiful wife who could have gotten raped and killed, our new car stolen, and all our possesions IS WHAT THEY WILL KILL FOR... "la Plata" money... Do you know that a RIDICULOUS IPOD can feed a Colombia family for a month, pay their utilites, and pay there rent? In this time, IPOD was not even in Colombia yet..He didn't know what the hell he just stoled..TO HIM...it just looked like a new cool expensive gringo toy that he can be sold. LUCKILY it was only an IPOD...$600,000 peso....thats is why we were fortunate..Men with guns and power in a particular location do get greedy..., and when you are all alone in a country road like in Colombia with cars that come by every 20-30 minutes or more if that.., and you got two low paid poor policemen from Medellin, Colombia all alone with guns waiting to search the next rich couple with a car... And they choose what car to pull over and check. And they picked us because we seem to a vulnerable target and we had a nice car. In Colombia, a 2002 small Daiwoo car with 30k..is a very nice ride to steal and sell...That would take care of family money problems for a year in Colombia. Anything is possible. Its not like the US, where they will be an investigation and someone will get caught and executed for murder. Murder is so much easier to get away with than in the USA. Because if you rat on a murderer in Colombia, there will be payback brother..If you ever go there..I hope that you will be safe.. Take care

walter comments on Is Colombia Dangerous now? Claro Que Si

Why? Well I am waiting for my wife's interview at the embassy which will be probably in March. We both want to get the hell out of there. HEHEHHE. Seriously, yea, in about 3 more months, we are raising our new family in the Good Old USA. And just visit Cali for her mother once a year if possible.

walter comments on Robbed at knifepoint in the Dominican Rep.

Dangerous in Colombia?? Claro Que Si Experience #1

I have been in Colombia in and out for 2 years, never had any trouble or problems. Until the last previous 6 months. One incident, I went out to a local bar in Cali . Maybe it was luck I never had trouble in Medellin (which I thought was the most dangerous for gringos..), Bogota, San Andreas, Cartegena, and many other cities..

My fiancee stayed in our apartment due to being pregnant while I went out for a couple drinks to get out of the house... Well after having a few drinks. I left the bar and there was some taxis waiting for anyone who needed a ride. Well I got in a taxi, the taxi driver drove off and he was going really fast.. after getting my directions. Being that I am not from Cali, I wasn't too familar with the city and the city is large...I didn't even bother looking at his creditials as a taxi driver to well either.. He pulls up and stops at a major intersection with trafficlights after 5 minutes of driving... Lights are red. And next thing I know. Three armed Colombianos..with Knives jump into the taxi and pointed their knives to my gut..and neck. Surrounding me and frisking for pesos..

Luckily, I speak some spanish. They wanted my money, and anything else in value. So I told them, you can take what you want. Please leave me my passport it has no value to you. I stayed calm and let them know I have a wife who is pregnant here. If they want my money or possesions, I told them to just take it and drop me off so that I can be with my colombian wife and future son. And nothing would be sad to the police...

They searched me and the driver was so happy that they found $300,000 pesos in my wallet. yea, I know, I know.. that is a littel too much to carry in Colombia, and why I travelled alone in the night by taxi.. But I got comfortable there from never having problems for 2 years...like an idiot I got relaxed...

So in conclusion, they took my watch, money, credit cards...asked for a pin to my cards, but I gave a false number and cancelled them immediately returning to my wife. They dropped me off in a quiet neighborhood..strato 2 or 3...probably their neighborhood...Thanks to God, Nobody got hurt luckily and I learned a few things from this. Colombia is still very dangerous. Don't go alone anywhere and don't be with people you don't know well. Especially in the night. Don't take a taxi that is so eager to pick you up. And don't take any large amounts of money. Act and look poor. And once anyone finds out you are a foreigner that is alone.....you are a target.. So, be careful.

What I think happened is the bartender or waitress. Called their boys up and set me up for the robbery and they got a commision for setting it up... After seeing I had cash in my wallet and that I was alone, and a foreigner to their country , they got me good... I don't feel embarrassed about posting this...Thought I should pass the experience to help you all out if you go down there. This happened in Oct 05. If fact, I am still living in Cali right now..and from this, I got smarter.

Experience #2

Also, I seen two guys get shot up in a drive by near Chipchape..there was a disco tec near Karens pizza...A woman and a man on a motorcycle pulled up to two Colombianos sitting and drinking..while my wife and me were eating pizza with her 5 year old niece and sister. The murderers..shot 7 shots into the two men..killed instantly and took off rapidly on their motorcycle...The policia showed up 30 minutes later...

Experience #3

Driving in our car from Medellin to Cali. There are numerous local police check points. The police chose our car to be searced out in middle of nowhere..They had their check point. Stupidly, my wife (caleña) and I let the police man search our car with the other policeman talking to us to keep us occupied. While the policeman who was searching our car for drugs and weapons was stealing from us. He only stoled my IPOD. Which was obvious as hell after they searched us. We both searched the car numerous times looking for the IPOD I just bought for her as a gift. And the policeman had the never to come up again to ask what was the problem. He totally denied stealing from us. But I told my wife lets go now. We have nobody here but these policeman and the jungle. I knew if they wanted...They could have killed us both and nobody would ever know. So, what I learned. After knowing that when you drive in Colombia and get checked every 20 miles from Presidente Uribles Police Check points..One of us always watched the Police man searching the car. One answers the questions to the supervisor and shows our passport and IDs..

Experience #4

My wife was working and I left the apartment to get our car in the parking lot. A local police station is withing eyesight of our apartment. As I am walking to the car to go see my wife at work. One Colombia Policeman comes at me and ask for my identification. He finds out that I am not Colombian. But from a place he hates. So he arrests me for no reason. Hand cuffs me to a pole at the station while the other young police man talk and support him. I call my wife on the cell. And told her what happened. She comes over. Arguing with the Police and trying to find out who arrested me and why? The policeman tells her because I am a Gringo. And tells her that why do you want to help them. He is not Colombian. He is .......... Boy that pissed her off. Luckily she knows people at the DAS, (customs for Colombia) and a DAS officer came over to fix this situation. The cop who arrested me..fleed on his motorcycle before the DAS agent came. Then the Police Chief came later. They apologized to her and me for the BIG mistake. I promised to find this colombian policeman and take care of him. I thought that was bull. The only reason my gringo butt got off is because my wife knows people in Cali.

I hope my bad experiences helps you who travel to Colombia. And I hope that it does not deter you. I think if you are Colombian street smart , you will get by, but don't think to be comfortable like I did...Just because nothing happen to me in 2 years and I can speak spanish. Its still one of the most dangerous countries in the world.

Walter

Pregnant I-129f benificiary question

My finacee (my wife to me even if we are not legally married) is currently 6 months pregnant with our first son. Our petition was recieved by USCIS in November 16, 2005... and currently they are processing fiancee visas in 4 months. So, there is a chance our baby will be born in Colombia. My question if anyone can help is...

What if after the approval , she has the baby in Colombia. What will happen? Will she and my son be denied to travel to the USA until my son has a proper visa too?

Or will they only require a DNA test that this is my son and we can go on our happy way?

And since we are not LEGALLY married yet. Will my son, not be considered as an american citizen? We will have to do a certifcate of citizenship since we were not married yet and he was born in Colombia?

Thanks everyone for your help, Happy Holidays!

Medical Insurance for my Colombia Fiancee Hello everyone in the poorbuthappy world. Como estan? I really need some help. My colombia fiancee is now 3 months pregnant with our baby. And we are waiting for her fiancee visa to be approved in December. Once she gets her visa, we are heading to the USA to make sure our baby is born in the USA and of course to be married.

my question is she doesn't have any medical insurance at this moment because she is in colombia and not my wife technically yet. Everyone knows that having a baby is expensive in the USA. How can I best get her reasonaby price medical insurance being that she is pregnant? or what would be the best approach in this situation. Get married right away, then get her on a medical insurance plan as a pregnant woman which we be fairly high? yes?

Or can I get her medical insurance policy now..while she is living in Colombia awaiting her visa? I have no clue. My first pregnant wife and baby I ever had in my life. heheh

Thanks for your time and helping me out. Walter

walter comments on divorcing my wife

Hello, I was in the same boat..as you my freind Married my wife in Medellin, she could not wait...caught her cheating while I was working in another country...so be it...and what is so funny..her visa just got approved by BCIS this month...but I canceled that to....first, as my lawyer instructed me...cancel your visa petitions, by writing a letter stating that you want them canceled and no more info is necessary....then what i did, I hired a colombiana lawyer...which a friend of mine RECOMMENDED::: don{t do it own your own or you will get ripped...It cost me $4,500,000 pesos..expensive but worth it...she is a top lawyer..and she is going to do a liquidation procedure in order that my wife cannot collect my plata...and for me I make decent money...

it takes 4 months to divorce is she agrees, if she does not then it will take up to 2 years...but you as an american really do not have to do nothing...you can always marry through a fiance visa if you marry another......but that is your choice my friend...I just want to erase everything , the history and move on...so that someday if I do meet the right chica...I can marry her in colombia or america...I was happy that I did do the K3 visa route which takes more time...than the fiance visa....this really put me and my x wife to the test of love...in our case her love died away over time...Good luck my friend...

walter comments on The great apartment hunt...

Recommendations for living in Medellin. Hello everyone, I have been in Medellin several times, but mostly stayed with my wife's family (now divorced) and in hotels..But this time, I am going there to study spanish.

My first questions is: Does anyone know an institution that is good and can teach me Spanish?

Second: Where can I find a furnished, ready to rent apartment in Medellin, any specific places will be appreciated.

Third: Will the school be able to get me an extension in staying over 90 days?

walter comments on Where can a Colombian travel without needing a visa once in the UK?

Where can a Colombian go without a visa? Like us Americans Hi, this is a question I always wanted an answer to. Does anyone know what countries in the world will accept a Colombian pasaporte without any special visas? Like us americans can do. I know panama is one, costa rica, equador.. But does anyone have a list. I would love to know so that I can take my girl somewhere else on vacation instead of only being in Colombia. No offense, I love Colombia but you can only do vacations so much in one country. I tried to invite her to Germany, but it takes three months for her to get a visa (if approved) to go a simple vacation. That got me really flared up. It like Colombians are trapped or something..

walter comments on marriage agencies

Just go to Colombia For my experience with Colombianas, I don't waste your time with that agency stuff. If it makes you feel more comfortable and secure, then I would say try it. Here is what one of my girlfriends thought. She told me she was scared to put her self on the agency network. Just because she heard stories of other ladies getting married to crazy guys or most of them were old guys and not attractive enough for her to have a geniune intrest. She was 21 and beautiful. And she had no desire to leave her family or Colombia for any man.

She was from Medellin. And if you notice, there are very few woman on the net from Medellin who want to leave. Medellin is a beautiful place to live. I don't want to leave either. Her story, a guy married a colombiana, brought her to florida, never finished her visa paperwork or green card intentionally. And treated her like a house/sex slave. Locked her in the house. And never intended her to work or learn english. She escaped the house and found someone who could help her find a lawyer and prosecuted the son of a bit... So this was a typical, I am a nice guy, but in real life I am crazy. So, Colombian women are frighten as well. I think the best way to meet people in Colombia is to have a friend who is from there that speaks english or you speaking spanish and just meet the women face to face in everyday life without intentions of marriage. Because if you go there with that intention, you will attract the bad women who only want your money. I am not against the marriage agency thing. But it gives me the feeling of a gold digger pool of women. And yes, Colombia has some gold diggers too. That is just me and my expeiences. But I guess it will be fun to do it for leisure and an introduction to Colombia and their women. If this your first time going as a gringo and you only speak english.

There are many women in Colombia and many single women with children. I can't say they are desperate. Because the fathers, didn't marry due to economical reasons or the father was just being a macho type of guy . So you have many women tired of the Colombian men. Not having enough money to care for the family or they are screwing other women all the time. So they want out and they think you as a foreigner will have a better life for them. Or you are the man who will put the bread on the table. Be careful and go with your gut feeling and learn spanish..Bueno Suerte. Chao

walter comments on About colombian women

What about dancing meregue? I had a novia who told me she dancing with male friends or just any male who knew how to dance meregue? She said its her culture and I have nothing to worry about. I admit the first time, she told me went out to dance with other guys when I wasn't in Colombia, I did get jealous. But overtime, I just don't give a mierda..... But, just wanted to know what other people thought about this? I had one colombiana tell me if you are married, then your wife should not want to dance with other men at this point. Only you or brothers or her father.

walter comments on In the Colombian Culture, what happens if the Husband catches his wife cheating in a Marriage?

Be careful OR she might purposely do this or make this up, just to see you have any others...Colombian women are very smart and always suspect their man is cheating in Colombia from what I seen. One of my Novias, was a serious jealous type. Always questioning me about my whereabouts...

walter comments on Estoy Loco O Que?

Before Moving there, what about the money to live? I want to move and live in Medellin, COL. But, I am be wrong, but I was told Jobs are extremely hard to find in Medellin. There is many unemployed people. But the country is a paradise for me. The only problem, where is the money going to come from to live? That is something that has to be thought of before moving, at least for me. I plan to live there indefinitely when I retire. Maybe consider a Business, or teaching English . And of course, knowing the spanish language...Just food for thought.

Saludos... Well Stated Gary I think most of us on this website, cherish Colombia in our own way. I am not Colombian, but man, I love the country, people and the culture. Yes, there are the bads, but Gary is correct. America, which is my country tambien....Well, are hands are dirty from our history. And there are many good aspects of Colombia that America just does have or doesn't have anymore. Most of it for me, is the freedom and not all the silly rules we have....Life there is based on your judgement and choice from what I seen..There is no police man down the street waiting to give you a $200 speeding ticket..

But the biggest thing, we are all trying to improve or find a better place to live in this world. And I think that I found my place to retire.

walter comments on What is with Colombian men and cheating?

My opinion why they cheat or have the reputation. Well, one thing I observe, there are many beautiful women in Colombia. The way the walk, dress, and represent themselves is a provocative and alluring thing .

For any man, Colombian or Foreign, it is hard not to think or look at them. I can be honest. And you know us men, are suckers for that and easily seduced. Our eyes and second brain is just biologicaly normal, reproduce the human species.

I noticed the difference on the way women dressed in the US and Colombia. For me, the women in Colombia dress far more sexier and it was something they were proud of and not afraid to diplay it. Like thier beauty was one of the reasons they were Colombian. They are proud and not afraid to show it. But America, you see lot less of that now days.

The way Colombian women dress reminds me of the women in the USA during the 70s and 80s. Tight jeans, cleavage exposed, high heels. Like you would hardly see a young colombiana wanting to wear something conservative. And it would make them angry if you told them they should wear something more conservative. To me that one part of why the men cheat. The men are being fed with this.

It like they are advertising that I am a women who is looking for a man, even though they may not intend to do that. I understand many women dress sexy for their self esteem, but we men tend to receive a different message.

And there is dicipline, morales and belief. Also education and culture. What happens if a Colombian man gets caught, nothing or at the worse gets a divorce from his wife. He isn't forced to pay child support like in America. Or he can't because he is poor.

Basically, he will move on to another because more women are availiable and there is no one forcing him to pay for his child's life or even visit the child. Now, with this in mind, what keeps the men from doing it.

Here is a contrast, I am working in Irak now. And, their culture definitely reduces this from happening. The women are raised to be at home with the children and never to even lay an eye on another man if she is married or even touch. They are dressed in a way that no other man can think lustful thoughts. It is like they have a bed sheet wrapped around their body. You can't see there figure, breast, lips, butt, etc...The only thing you see in their eyes.

Every other part of the woman's body is covered. Also, if cheating was to happen. The husband has the legal religious right and will kill his wife and the man who made love to his wife. So doesn't want to cheat, cause she show knows she will be dead or condemned from the family forever and never able to see her children again.

His family would support and help with the matter. So there is a form a law in Irak for adultery. Also there is a strong moral about the family approving the future wife. She has to be inspected first. Someone fromt the family does a investigation of her life. Is she trustworthy, a virgin, and does she come from a good family. Before marrying is even considered. The future husband's family must approve the marriage first.

Also, they are still have strong beliefs that a woman to be wed must be a virgin. She loses her virginity after they are married, like the old days in the US. They also the men have a legal right to marry up to 3 women. Three wife rule, I guess keeps the man from cheating on his wives. Not to say all are this way. I was told by one of my Iraqi translators that the woman who are divorced or don't possess their virginity usually never marry or work in a prostitution lifestyle.

But in Colombia. It isn't as severe. A 15 year old girl can get pregnant with no marriage. And you see all the time if you lived in Colombia. You have tons of women who have children without a father. Because it is condoned. And this culture or lifestyle just spreads and that is what they see as life. It isn't enforced like in certain cultures.

And in America we have the same problem. Lots of pregnant teens because our society has changed, no father, no mother and accepted sex more so than in the 1960s for example.

But we have education on teen pregnancy. Educating protective sex, birth control. I think it is mostly education is why they cheat and the way they were raised from thier enviroment and family.

Imagine being a man in Colombia. And all your male friends speak that having another woman is just a normal thing and not a big deal. And it was cool to be this way. And most of them were doing it. And that is was the macho thing to do.

On a positive note, I do have Colombian friends who are educated at college level. And they are married, mid 20s or early 30s without children and not cheating living in the US. Happily married and building a future. So, this showed me that Education was a big factor.

walter comments on Areas in Medellin

So is it difficult for an american to possess a decent business? Hello Gary, I once was thinking in the future to retire in Medellin and opening my own business. And from reading your last comment, sounds pretty tuff to do in Medellin. I don't know what kind of business your friend had, but I was thinking something like a restaurant or a bar...At the highest level, owning/running something like Blockbuster video or Mcdonalds like they have in Medellin. Would that be hard to make in Medellin being a grino/married with a colombiana? The story sounds to be real, because who will stop these guys from killing your friend. Luckily, they did not. But I heard also, the police are worth nothing. They are just there. Or they are controlled by the wrong people. But I remember being in a richer part of Medellin. And i saw nice businesses and clubs. I would like to own something like that to support my finances in Medellin. What do you think? Gracias

walter comments on Are colombianas faithful to their mate?

I have the same thinking I try to always assume people are good and honest before even knowing them. And I let the time and action tell the truth. For one person, I knew in my life. Lied once, I asked why, there was their reason, I forgived. Then they lie twice, third time and now I am hearing the "cry wolf" story. So, why, I don't really know. But I knew to be more observative at that point and really look at where I was standing with this person. And made my decision to move on. I do appreciate all your comments and learned alot from you all. Muchisimo Gracias.

walter comments on Are colombianas faithful to their mate?

Its good to hear the things you say Motherof2 How can you make them happy in a long distance relationship? If you can't be there with them on a day to day basis. Does the internet or telephone count as quality time? Being that if you were American who was trying to build a relationship with a Colombian. Well in my opinion, I think cheating is probable to happen. The reason would be that you are never there most of the time.

Like for example, I have a job that keeps me away from my mate for 6 months until I could visit her for 2 weeks. Just because my job gives me 30 days of the year for vacation time. And I can imagine how hard it can be for a woman or man in Colombia to stay loyal in a internet email or phone call relationship for a year or two until she got her visa. Since her mate is hardly there. Maybe visits her for 2 weeks or more per six months, unless he is rich and doesn't work or he quits his job in the states to spend quality time in Colombia. You can't simply grab her and say lets go to America. You have to wait for all the papers to be done. Now if she is a rich Colombian, that is a differert story.

I would like to know why she or he would not cheat in this situation? You have all this partying, drinking, dancing, as part of the culture and your american counterpart doesn't speak spanish, etc....He or she would never know, right? and we all have the need for sex, affection, and time together to build a true relationship.

In my lifestyle and work. I don't think it is feasible or intelligent to get married in this situation, due to me not being there for my mate in Colombia working a normal 9-5 m-f job.... I think I am asking for it. But if there was a way to live with her for few years and build a relationship, yea that might work. And you would really know your mate. I personally have decided not to commit to anyone that I meet in Colombia or any other long distant relationship unless I had this kind of time to give. I elected that when I go, I have fun and no serious ties.

In America, like the military life, soldiers are always gone away from there wives. And I tell you from serving the military for 8 years in the past. There is alot of cheating going on. Just because the husband or wife is not home. I think it is natural human behavior. That is why I never elected to marry in my military career. I seen many men and my friends coming back from a war or one year tour in a different country, and finding there house empty and their beautiful wife gone because she found someone that was there and she didn't have children to worry for.

So, my question for this board is to see if we all think that a Colombiana is much more loyal than americans? when it comes to loyalty in a long distant relationship that may build to marriage.

If you wanted a relationship with a Colombian and you are american or European, and your citizenship /work does not permit you to live with her on a day to day basis or her not being able not to leave the country unless she has a visa, you would get the same situation right? or no, because she is a Colombian.

Intelligently, most people wait at least 2 years or more for example before thinking of marriage. 2 years of relationship time with 6-8 months of waiting for a visa.. All this time has passed by with no real quality time together. How can you expect her to be loyal through all this time and not finding another because you are not there?

My experience in Colombia, most of the women I met, bragged how they had more than one boyfriend, and the men that were "Married" constantly bragged or shown that there loyalty to there wife was not important. It was like normal to cheat on their wife. And what does the wife do about this? Nothing. She has three or more children to take care of. She can't leave her husband who pays for the food, shelter, etc...She would ignore the cheating. And not even consider divorcing her husband. I hope that I did not offend anyone. But these are real observations of people I know in Colombia.

I have seen many women there who had no Husband that were pregnant or had few children already. It was sad to see so many young beautiful women with children and no father for their hijos. I think it is because they are beautiful women there and many. More so than men. And being a man in Colombia, you have that desire to cheat because there are beautiful women all around, wherever you go and they are all looking for a man or husband. Now the wifes on the other hand were probably the most loyal I seen, but the husband were not. I was thinking that it is because they are the ones against the odds. There are more women than men. And my feelings in my gut from these married women were, " I am lucky to have a man supporting me and has a job and if I leave I am stuck with three children and he will run out with another woman." The unmarried women with novios were the women I witness that bragged how they had a certain amount of men to choose from or maybe its a inner anger or revenge that if you can't beat what the men were doing, join them.

This comment is just my opinion and my observations from visiting Colombia several times .. My intent was not to offend anyone, because in America, we have our problems too. We have the one of the highest divorce rates in the world. But I writting all this to really know, are colombianas more loyal than most other women in the world. I heard that mexican women are one of the most loyal, like indian women. Due to their culture.

I have not seen all of Colombia and all the people. So I am not saying what I wrote here is correct. Again in my observations, people are people based off their enviroment and morals. It depends how you were raised and your enviroment, your education. etc. Thanks for all your comments, I did appreciate all of them. And for the people who did find a good colombian to marry and overcame the obstacles, you bring hope to us all seeking a true love in life.

walter comments on Does an american need to divorce a colombian women if they were married in Colombia, if yes, what are the details?

Thanks Gary Well, I don't recall having a prenump. And I did have a marriage visa. This is how I got married to her in Medellin. That is one thing she wanted very much. When I do get there in July. I would like to take care of this quick and get it off my mind so I can move on with my life.

I am glad you know some english speaking abogados. I didn't know they existed in Medellin. Before you told me this, I was thinking of hiring another translator again just to explain my case to the lawyer. because my spanish isn't that great. I had to have one for my marriage at the notary. And to be honest, I barely understood the laws of civil marriage when thetranslator recited the notary's words.

You have been some big help my friend. I am looking forward to meeting you when I arrive in Medellin again.

Gracias, Walter.

Gary, what do you think? Well, if I just simply forget about it, and never go to a Colombian lawyer, Honestly, I am fearing 5 years down the road, she will sue me for not supporting her. And then I will have to pay later in life. I am wondering if that could happen to me, if I never made the divorce official. Just picking your brain again Gary.

walter comments on Question about Barranquilla

What does your gut feeling say? You have to be aware that she is poor. So, there is a chance she is trying to milk you for money. Best thing is to use time to get to know her. If the relationship has not been that long and you rarely see her. I would personally make an excuse of not having the money. Or tell her you need more time in order to provide this kind of money for this kind of thing.

I will tell you this, if she consistenly ask, ask and ask for money. This is a big indicator of wanting the "plata" and not you.

Another option, tell her you will have the money when you visit her again. And see for your self if this is a legit request.

Bueno Suerte!

Hey Gary That sounds nice to meet a fellow american in Medellin. I will be heading back to Medellin in July. How can I contact you?

walter comments on I want to live in Medellin? But will it be safe for living as a foreigner?

Gracias pana!! Thanks for the indepth comment. It was appreciated alot by me. You inspired me to make the move. Yea, I think medellin is the best place I ever lived in my life. It reminds me of Los Angeles in some parts and Hawaii and Georgia, all wrapped in one. It is my paradise. The place I want to retire when I am older. My goal this year is to learn the spanish language fluently. I am 34 years old and have been studying the language for a year now. Getting better each day. But I want to be in the enviroment for a year solid. Depending to speak and comprehend. I recall many of the places you mention, but not all, because not knowing spanish well makes it hard to comprehend when someone tells me I am itague, etc.. I never knew the north part of Bello was rough..Good info Dwmte....And about the women being good wifes, I think you nailed it! Hard, but good.

walter comments on what makes colombian women beautiful?

I hear all this hype about Colombian woman...I beg to differ I can agree they are beautiful. There is no doubt there. And I have dated several Colombianas in my time. I just don't want everyone who reads this page, to think, ahhhhhh Colombian woman is god's blessing for a woman, because its not all true. They are people, just like you and me. Some are good, and some are bad. Some are trustworthy and some will try to get every gringo dollar out of your pocket because family comes first, not you.

I would read all these marriage sites and they will say latin women are very loyal, affectionate, etc....But it is not true with every chica...I have seen it and experienced it. So be careful and treat them as any woman in the world.

I can say that they are very proud of there beauty. And that goes for the good looking ones especially. It like a competition or something because of the ratio of men to women...High maintenance of course. Just like any beautiful woman in the world.

One of my past novias, after gettting to know her, always wanted something, clothes, make up, shoes, everything that will make her pretty. She would always ask for something before I came and ask for more. Plata, plata, is the most heard word in my ears...And that is what made her happy. She was beautiful, the most beautiful woman in my life, so I paid for it. Glady, but I never expected things to be like a good ending in a romance movie. Never expected anything. Just went with the flow...

With out plata (money) , I don't think she would be happy with me. Then I met another, who was a book worm, college educated and wasn't that beautiful. Maybe a 7...out of a 10. Who was nice, affecionate, and trusthworthy like an angel, and didn't care for all the material shit.

My point is, don't believe what you read from all these postings. Not to say that some of the fellas got a good colombiana..But they are not all like what they say.... Go down there and meet them. Know them for yourself and learn spanish...

If you don't, you will not know if she is using you, or loving you. Or cussing you out...You got to learn spanish..and its for your safety...

And they are all different. And please don't be naive or be whipped around her little finger. I know it will be hard. Because man, you will have a good time and a beautiful woman in your arms giving you the time of your life... Just be warned, if you get wrapped around her finger, she will take everything that she can. As soon as I noticed this behavior in one of the women I knew down in Colombia, I bailed quick. If was fun for a while, but it got old...and they are many more to know.. But I will always keeps my options open for the right girl.

Also , the younger girls, my observation is that they are just like the younger women in america. They don't know what they want in the early 20s ...So, if you are not there all the time ....she will get lonely and play. And if you are 40 or 50, come on man, you can't expect love in paradise for the rest of your life. Unless you are her sugar daddy...She rather have a Colombiano who is near her age. But he is so damm broke, she will take you instead, because the family comes first...

It is human nature and a common thing in Colombia. I remember going to a discoteca and seeing many beautiful colombianas, and a few of them would brag proudly, how they had more than one man...like it was a cool thing. I even heard women there telling my girlfreind to get every dollar you can from this gringo. "she didn't know that "entiendo espanol"... I even seen one chica get busted by her present novio while she was with another. The dude walked up to her and slapped her on the face..and she went on with her next boyfriend...Sex,morales,honesty is really based off there family morales and enviroment (poor or educated). I now believe if I see my novia friends doing this, I bet your dollar there is a good possibility my novia is doing the same thing when I am not there. "Birds with feathers, flock together."

My thinking now, is just have fun and no comittments, unless I spent at least a few years knowing the chica, her family and friends. So guys, don't go down there and marry the first thing you see. Because you will be asking for a broken heart on most cases.. Unless the woman, has three children and she is older...But a young 21 year old mamacita...Come on...be real. Just my 2 pesos...

walter comments on Single guy in Toronto looking to meet a nice Colombian girl

Dude, I think you are at the wrong website. They are tons of websites for looking or meeting Colombianas....Just to let you know...But who knows, you might luck out here, but I would personally visit colombia instead of chatting on the internet...Good luck!

walter comments on translation help please....

A better translation site... Mira, I been doing this for a while, and I finally found a decent translation site. Depending if you use it correctly. Babelfish is good for translating your english for her...But if you do it the other way around, she could mean to say good things, and you will think she is pissed off at you...So be careful.

On what you translate and don't take it to heart, unless someone from her city translates it. Her city! Spanish is different in every country as you know.

Anyway go to translation.paralink.com Use the spell check for spanish to english....So her mispelled spanish words are corrected before you translate it.. And just like english, some words have several meanings. That is where the screw happens. She will say one word to mean something to you, but the translator will give you some other definition....Good luck and learn spanish...importante...

walter comments on What is the exact use and meaning of "a la orden?"

I do appreciate all your answers...thanks Yea these are words are hear women say when they are talking. I only understand the core of spanish, meaning I can't speak it fluently, but I get what the conversation means. I would listen to the women talk, 20-25years of age , in the bars or clubs...or in friendly conversations. I hear them talking about other men or x boyfriends...calling them, "guevon" or "hay mari" sigh..., gonorrea , or moscoforri..(i think this is spelled right), hijueputa ( i hear this one alot)...de puta...etc...To me learning formal spanish, I get the impression, these women have a dirty mouth or swear alot...But I don't know, because this isn't my language..But man, its cool to know now, what "a la orden" means now...Thanks. Walter

walter comments on Colombian Women

Gold diggers Yea, just from my experience, you have your gold diggers because it is a poor enviroment. Some of the women will do anything to have a sugar daddy and some won't. I have also met nice women in Colombia, more so than the Gold digger types...You just need good senses about the person you are with...Ask your self, "is she always focused on money or you?" I met a woman that place the "plata" number one before me..And I left her quick once I was sure she was in for the money not me. Its hard to let go of a colombiana...Because they are so beautiful. But they are plenty good ones to find and meet. Just be careful if you are american and make a decent living not to spoil her. Get to know the culture and what kind of money these people spend and blend in...If you want a real woman. Not just a lover. And I agree with the above comments. They have lots of pride and you have to pay for the high beauty chicas. The 8-10s can be expensive in pesos...No matter what, I love those mamamitas...Chao.

walter comments on SAN ANDRES ISLAND A TRUE PARADISE

Never had a problem in San Andres either Pan handlers or the sexy massage ladies (jajajajja) you referred to, are nagging in Cartegena, but in San Andres, everyone was laiddddddd bacckkkk....But the ratio of men and women were sad for me personally. .....
