Yeah, I know what you mean.. I was just mentioning this in another thread but the gringa bashing has seemed to get better recently, thank goodness.

I personally wouldn't date a widower with kids unless it'd been a few years, but only because I think the kids would need time alone with their dad. I love kids and would welcome a man with them, if I were single, but I'd avoid going after a widower. So maybe there are two sides to the Canadian gals' story.

What works for you... may not work for Jeff, though.

I used to judge sometimes, too, but now I know that when someone like a spouse or child dies, sometimes a person will do anything to ease the pain. I hope Jeff finds someone that can make him laugh and maybe make him forget some of the pain of losing his wife for a little while.

Exactly.... I think both is ideal. People should give what they can and do their best always. If there are "fakers" it will all even out in the end, I don't worry too much about that.

I agree... I also like what Jaime said, though, I think in another thread or maybe this one - I'm too tired to look - the reason some people don't advocate giving money to street kids is because it's a quick fix. Don't just throw a few pesos to ease your conscience - become aware and involved (as many here are already doing).

Brown is beautiful! I have always liked Latino men and middle Eastern men (oh, especially those guys with the light green eyes...). My latest crush is Russell Wong, who is Asian. And Denzel Washington (how did I miss him all of these years?) My blonde haired, blue eyed husband just laughs - as long as I don't look too long or too often. I don't know, I just think they're attractive for some reason; maybe opposites do attract.

I'm all for uniforms I used to wear them to work and they are washable and inexpensive. Now I work in an office where everyone wears fancy clothes and worships Talbot's (bleck) and dry cleaning is expensive. When I make a house call to go into a patient's home, I can't wash that business suit in the washer like I could with my scrubs.

It looks like..... Casa de la Madre y El Niño has a website at http://www.la-casa.org/ (the other one might, too, I just didn't look) and they have a section that is labelled Cómo Ayudar.

They also have an adoption section which I found interesting but I don't know if they'd let norteamericanos adopt their kids and I'm not sure it would be a fair thing to do to the kid, either, taking him so far away from home but it was an interesting read.

Can you please tell me, what is Spanish called in Colombia? My spanish tapes say to refer to it as "castellano" but our instructor from Panama insists it's "español". I haven't been able to find a definitive answer anywhere. I want to be able to intelligently say what I'm no hablo'ing muy bien in the meantime :-) Thank you! Kim

Exactly..... it happens were I am (in North America) all of the time. Some people in this town that have little income but lots of debt go prancing around like they're morally superior to anyone that tries to live a simple life. My religion focuses on simplicity and living within ones' means and even though I could live high on the hog, I don't think it makes me a better person so I'm shunning excess material stuff. Then again, I don't want to change or fix anyone else, so I let them live their morally superior lives, and I am happy in my own world.

Shane - do not worry... we are all opinionated here, and I don't Mr. Hollywood meant what he was saying in a bad way (I inferred that he believes it can happen anywhere, not exclusivly in Colombia, which is correct IMHO).

You are right, though, it's usually beneficial to question things that you don't think are right versus accepting them the way they are. Since when is anyone "superior" to others because they were born with more money (or are comfortable with incurring more debt)?

My "golden rule" in life relates to the old saying, "The true value of a man's worth is measured by how he treats those who can do nothing for him". When I remember that, I'm on the straight track. I also teach my kids that they aren't better than people with less money than we have, and that people that have lots of disposable income and vacations in France aren't better than them.

I got CDs from the library that I really like. Note: I don't know if this is Colombian Spanish or not, but the CDs discuss sentence structure, etc. and it seems to be proper Spanish. Hopefully someone from Colombia will respond to you also! The CD set I have looks like it's from ProOne and it's aptly named "Spanish" ;-) Not very descriptive. They do list a website, www.sofsource.com but I recommend the library.

I'll probably do what Miguel does... I was going to go get a tan, but I look Swedish/Irish any way you look at me. I plan to make sure my Spanish is impeccable (and I've learned some colorful stuff here from certain individuals!), continue to dress neatly and be polite, and be aware. I'll never pass for Colombian even though my mom was Latina. No use even trying.
