Hi Usher
I think you're going crazy with so much information. I think it's not as difficult as it looks.
Buying a property is a good start whenever is gonna be used to the purpose of your busines.
You only need your tourist visa. Then if you want to saty or run a business, it's better to get legal asistant to guide you through the process.
For real estate buying information see www.buycolombiarealty.com I hope it can help.

Usher127,
I just read your summary on getting the "investor visa". on one of the posts you said that you could recommend a good lawyer. I would be interested if you have somebody in Medellin.
I accept personal messages, thanks

Usher, you don't accept personal messages so I'll just let you know here that consider this a warning: I have just removed your thread about finding a hitman. I don't know if it was supposed to be a joke but in Colombia you don't joke about those things.
One more strike and you're out.
That's life :)

It's slightly worrying that you couldn't tell it was a joke.

Even more so, that PBH is so content to help pimps publicise their good work in Colombia. Personally, I found his website offensive and embarressing, hence my comments.

I think you need to get out more Desideria.

Perhaps you're right. I thought it was a joke but I was receiving complaints and thought that it was better to remove it instead of having our members that don't share your sense of humour lose any sleep because of it.
Cheers,
Desi

ok thanks for the message....initially it would be for a period of 12 months , im planning to take a course here in london soon for 4 weeks which is cambridge certificate so i can use this as a starter but i would like to look at other options, i have 12 years experience of banking here in london as a personal financial advisor and sales/customer service.....so maybe that could come into the equation.....in terms of the visa side for that 12 month period is it just a case of leaving and re-entering to get another 90 days u think ? in terms of tax i presume if im at the english school in barrranquilla o cali then i pay tax to govt & national insurance ? but if i got some money from private tuition there then i can onviously not declare this....

thanks.....i will probabaly retire in latin america but i will wait quite a bit more for my property here to go up over 10-15 years.

hasta pronto patron

I don't know about using your banking career... unless maybe you are fluent in spanish. Even then, you may well find the hours of work / pay a little depressing coming from london. It's just my opinion, but Colombia is not great in terms of working for companies - much better to work for yourself - though worth asking PBH generally.

Visa... you can live as a tourist for 6 months no problem. They should give u 2 months when u enter the country (if u ask for it) - and then u can renew it 2 more times. After that, you can either get a work visa or a student visa. Even if u have a steady job - my guess is that the latter is much easier. Don't worry about it now... I enrolled on a photography course for 6 months just to get a student visa last year.

Tax... if u r teaching english for a school that's their problem.... they will or will not deduct it. It's not an issue unless u want to register ur own business... and to be frank.. even then... it really depends what type of business u are doin - in case of private tuition - definately do not register your business.

Good luck with the Celta... I did a tefl in bogota... wasn't very good, but with teaching you learn as u teach.

btw, private tuition is unlikely to give u all the money u need per month, but it's a great way to make your savings last longer. I can give u plenty of advice about teaching english. The only advantage of working for a school is that it means u might meet some interesting people.

usher, I enjoyed reading your posts and mostly your post about buying a property in Colombia. However, I don't have that kind of money at hand now, but I would like to buy a property in possibly Bogota when I retire (at least 10 years from now). Even by then, I don't think I will need to invest that much money to live there. Btw, I do speak Spanish fluently, for I am a Cuban native speaker, and I hope this will help me. I am planning to visit Colombia at least once a year to get to know Colombia, and thus get ready for the retirement time.

Great Posts!!!!

Hey Usher, I´ve just read your post about buying property in Colombia. Do you have the contact info for mauricio uribe? If so, I´d really appreciate it if you could send me a message with this info.

Gracias
