tropicalguide comments on How do poorbuthappy guides work?

New Member I am resident in Central America since late 1985, mainly in Guatemala and El Salvador, where I now reside as a pensionado. Since I have been there, including Colombia, and done that, I should be interested in starting up a poorbuthappy forum for Central America. Like Colombia, El Salvador and Guatemala can be very dangerous places for those not using common sense, and like colombia, many natives never often travel far outside their own area and consider the country to be very dangerous, and like Colombia, especially in El Salvador, where we have few tourists and travellers, visitors are rarely preyed upon, with the exception of those who think that city streets tranquil by day are safe after midnight and why spend 3 dollars to take a taxi nine blocks to the hotel anyway? etc. Per capita in Central America, Costa Rica has the most crime against tourists, one reason is the publicity, the country is billed as an almost totally crime free paradise, and thefts of credit cards, money, passports, valuables, even entire vehicles full of luggages are endemic. Violent crime is pretty much limited to the immigrant..Nicaraguan and South American guest workers..legal and illegal..barrios of San José, all Central American capitals now have a problem with pandillas or street gangs, many of whom have been deported from the USA. Outside the major cities Central America is generally peaceful with a lot of eco and cultural tourism.

If you're not a part of this travelicious experiment just yet, just sign up here. It's free & easy.
