treedoc comments on Uribe asks US not to punish Colombia

re: FTA Regardless of the dubious merits of the CAFTA or FTA, it does make enormous sense to cooperate and aid Colombia any way that we can. Uribe for all his sins has in fact been beneficial to Colombia. Things in general and especially investment in instead of out of Colombia have improved. But the only way we can ever really hope to win back the confidence and respect of Latin America and the rest of the world is to rid ourselves once and for all of Bush/Cheney/neo-con agenda. Im suspicious of any and everything that issues from the current political administration even if by some miracle it actually does make sense. Weve got to remove them and then begin to pay for their many sins, in order to reestablish ourselves in the eyes of an angry world.

treedoc comments on Did a thread just dissapeared?

I noticed certain threads disappeared from the Gore/Uribe subject, one of them my own. Whats the deal? PBH in the censoring business? Cant say anything controversial on this site. Nothing anti Bush/Cheney/neo-con no matter how insane american foreign policy? Michael Moore and David Icke also prohibited. What do the moderators want here, just a nice quiet little tea party?

treedoc comments on importing car tariffs

Wow! More invaluable information. JUst makes Panama look sooo eazy, doesnt it. Colombia sounds more and more like a nice place to visit, which I have done several times and enjoyed it. But why make being free and comfortable and mobile so difficult. I dont get it.......

treedoc comments on Illegal immigration: Are we just too stupid to solve it?

reality I think u pretty much got it right there expat. And Scotty just needs to get out more, read more, travel more. The picture expat paints may not be pretty, but its far closer to the truth than other versions that have been presented in reference to this thread. Thats one of many reazons why Im an expat too........listo

treedoc comments on MANIZALES COLOMBIA AN AWESOME LITTLE CITY

Yes, I would be inclined to agree with you tejas, having lived thru it already in Hawaii, then Costa Rica and now Panama, except for one little factor. SECURITY!! If the Colombian govt. or U.N. for that matter cant put the guerilla to rest, then only the most adventurous risktakers and mujeriegos will find their way to that otherwise enchanting country.

one dumb question with another As far as the U.S. being liberated from British rule, remember, the Brits are the number 1 foreign invester in the country, beside being our foremost partner in global crime. And the European Rothschild family together with the Rockerfellers and about 5 other global prominents own the Federal Reserve Bank of the U.S. and the printing presses and therefore the economy nationally and for the most part globally, so how free are we really? But for real insight into how the Spaniards and the Portuguese and then the English and the Americans have raped pillaged and plundered Latin America, read Galeanos book (a Colombian) "Open Veins of Latin America". That book will open your eyes and blow your mind.

treedoc comments on MANIZALES COLOMBIA AN AWESOME LITTLE CITY

Wow! Great info! Thnx for the lead. Too bad its sooo far from the beach. But yeah, I had a fantastic colombiana girlfriend from Armenia in Costa Rica/Panama. Isnt that very close to Manizales?

treedoc comments on Malpractice in Colombian

Whatever else you decide to do, if you pay the butchers another centavo, you are throwing good money after bad. Definately do not pay, and definately investigate who the good guys are in Bucaramanga and see what they have to say about fixing things. Im glad im not considering any plastic surgery here anytime soon, cuz you folks have made a believer out of me. I would do dental work, as I did in Cali a few years ago and that worked out just fine, in terms of price and quality of work.

treedoc comments on Desperately seeking colombianas. Part II

Hey Elmo, yur a revelation! What site are u using. Can u suggest a few good ones? Im gonna be a treeologist.......

Well of course that relationship is ill fated. All I can say is ride it until you get bucked off and lets hope thats all u get. But the temptation is something thatI readily understand and constantly deal with and have been known to surrender to.........

treedoc comments on Cartagena Losing Fight On Poverty.

Wow! What an education were getting here today. Didnt realize there were so many english speaking Colombians with an attitude towards gringos. I appreciate all the information pertaining to Colombia in general and Cartagena in particular but have trouble with the obvious slant against north americans. Whats the deal? Cant make the distinction between Halliburton and an educated adventurous young american who wants to visit your country learn your language and something of legitimate latin american history? I met many like this in Platypus in Bogota and in Cartagena and Santa Marta. If I thought the majority thought like some of you, I guess I would be disinclined to return. "Gringos have no business in Colombia, punto." Whats this mean utopia cowboy and who the hell are you?

treedoc comments on Diving in Colombia

diving Where specifically is the best divingin Colombia and what is the visibility? Reefs intact?

treedoc comments on Walk tall boys, walk tall

Aloha shirts..... Sorry, but dont get the slant on Hawaiian shirts. Im from Maui, and have worn them forever, (subtle colors, generally, mind u).For comfort in the tropics, u just cant beat a liteweight hawaiian shirt with coconut buttons, pair of shorts and chancletas, (hawaiian style sandals)Definately not i the same category as thoze other eye sores....

treedoc comments on Mexican national oil monopoly in crisis

Nationalized oil companies What do u think about PetroBras? Brazil seems to be much better off for nationalizing their oil industry and are now oil self sufficient. Any comment on this phenomena?

treedoc comments on a new day

I suppose Iraq makes Colombia look safe, heh? But then, whos to blame for that one? They couldnt pay me enuff to be part of that fiasco. You might consider going awol to Santa Marta.

treedoc comments on Deleted Threads again

Bad tippers too! Naah! But be careful on the Toronto folks. Theyre like Canadian New yorkers, vice ridden and mercenary.......

treedoc comments on bucaramanga women

Bogota wahines It is so f&%$¿?ing cold up there in Boogota that the girls must be hot to compensate. I suffered for a week up there for a spoiled little rich big city lawyers daughter, and breathed a mighty sigh of relief when I got off the plane in lovely Cartagena. The girls of Bogota may be nice, I grant u, but they´ll have to come to Cartagena or Santa Marta to meet me.

Elmo, you are a legend in your own mind.......

Wheres the logic? More violence in Medellin now than in the Escobar era, yet there were 400 murders per 100k and now its 40. Medellin sounds closer to Panama City murder rates which by the way have been sky high lately, largely thanx to your Colombian neighbors. As much as I hate to admit it, and as much as I despise Bush/Cheney and co. sounds to me like Colombia is a much safer place to live and travel in now. So whatever works, keep doin it! Sometimes the U.S. govt. does something right by accident........

treedoc comments on Going with the flow.

Buen consejo Juanalejo! Buyer beware anywhere! If it wasnt the color I ordered I wouldnt accept it or pay for it. Pretty simple, really!

ulterior motives D.G. and other pertinent parties. Have u guyz read "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man" yet? How about Eduado Galleanos classic, "Open Veins of Latin America" Theze books might clear up a few things. The U.S. definately does some good works, but whatever (generally) emanates from top level govt. sources comes with strings attached, may strings. The entire Bush Crime Family is sin verguenza and anybody who could possible trust anything that comes out of the mouth of one of them needs a wake up call. Oh yeah, another good book comes to mind (albeit a little tedious) "Pigs at the Trough".

treedoc comments on Dollar

dollar down So its still the best game in town hey? Thats kinda like saying that Christianity is the best of all the religious myths. (And it probably is) but it doesnt change the hard core fact that it is indeed a myth. And so is the dollar. Now u can put your faith in myths if u like but I prefer reality however painful the initial encounter. With facts u can make a sound decision, with reality you can grow but with fiction youre lost in space. The dollar is doomed and has been for some time now. Why do u think Buffet bought more than a billion euros a few years ago? I think he made approx 40 to 50% since that conversion. hows that for eazy money? But I dont even have a great deal of faith in the Euro. They have their own problems! Time to get real man........

treedoc comments on oil to fall to $40, maybe even $30

Scottys diatribe Hey will some astute political observer out there please educate our friend Scotty as to how there is not a dimes worth of difference between the two parties (George Wallaces words) and that Wubbya does indeed represent the best interests of the petrolero pirates who have been reamin, steamin and dry cleanin us hace mucho tiempo.

treedoc comments on Anti-Chavez Venezuelans look to gain asylum in South Florida

Venezuela democracy Dime porfavor! How can u have a democracy or better yet a soverign republic when u have one man who now has power completely consolidated in his own hands, rules by decree thnx to capitualtion by the Venz. asamblea, and punishes and muzzles the press, which by the way Torrijos here in Panama would like to do if he could get away with it. (ha, not to mention Bush). I actually like what Chavez says most of the time, but its not what he says that counts, its what he does.

treedoc comments on Dollar

like the man said, "print new gold backed currency" or watch your fiat voodoo money go up in smoke like all the rest. Only a matter of time......how much longer can the life support measures keep the game going?

treedoc comments on Colombian men and Gringas

Thats Love Obviously Morphus grasps the essence of the meaning of true love. I can only hope the object of his attentions will be duly warned and early too....

treedoc comments on Futbol Fanatics

Yea, a lot of truth has been spoken here. But in the end for most of us our tastes develop over time thru process of culturization. I learned to love soccer watching my kid play since 6 yrs old in Hawaii and even coached one year despite my ignorance of the game. And now Id rather watch Mundial (World Cup) than the Super Bowl (although I watch that too). At least in Soccer a point really means something unlike basketball where a bunch of mutants gallop up and down the court slamdunking the ball into a basket that ought to be raised a couple feet. And in the end even if they banned Futball in England, the unwashed limeys would find something else to fight and kill one another over. Thats how it looks from here......

treedoc comments on Better Get Your Colombianita/o Here Now! / Immigration Gumballs!

Woah! What stinging, zinging commentary. Filet him like a fish, throw him back into the sea and of course the ubiquitous angle of the dangle rubbish. Whether his numbers are off (as they undoubtedly are)ornot the ultimate point to be gleaned here is that THERE ARE TOO MANY GODDAM PEOPLE EVERYWHERE and imagine how much worse it will be in another 20 yrs at this rate. When I was born there were only 2 billion people on the planet and approx the current population of Brazil in the U.S. and a gallon of gasoline cost 27cents. And in that relatively short period of time the population has tripled to 6 bill plus and the U.S. has nearly doubled. Where there are too many people, unfortunately, there are always too many problems. Thats why I live in Panama where there are less than 3 million and if you were to fly over the country it looks like theres nobody there. Of course there are certain cultural deficitsthat one must be resigned to but as they have told me all my life over and over, you just cant have everything........to the wind!

treedoc comments on Sex and cultural history

sex experimentation No place like Brazil! Brazil is the sexual epicenter of the universe. Colombia is a distant 2.....But the Colombians are very nice and I am very smitten with them. Looking for the next Colombiana gf as a matter of fact. My spanish is wayy better than my portuguese......

treedoc comments on How to transfer money to Colombia to buy land

wire transfers Wow! Sounds like Colombia is a much better place to visit than live. I would never choose to endure so much bullshit to transfer funds to buy a property. Geez, it all makes Panama seem like a dream. Its all in $, its a world banking center, and the service is generally world class. It amazes me that a country that is still effectively in a state of civil war could really impose so many strident requirements to open an account or transfer funds. No wonder Colombia is so fucked up. Whose responsible for all this anyway, Uribe or Bush/Cheney Patriot Act?

treedoc comments on cost to live in Colombia $

shipping car from Pan to Col Would be very interested to know more about shipping a vehicle from Colon Panama to Cartagena if u already know the details Morphus. And how long will they give u a permit to use a foreign car? And rough estimate of % impuesto to buy the placa? Are cars a lot more expensive in Colombia than Panama? Gracias......

treedoc comments on Blood, wailing sirens...

Thats pretty incredible information DonGringo. Wow! That just about tells me everything I need to know about the prospects of living in Colombia. I lived in Costa Rica for 12 yrs and have been involved in a few brawls and have had Ticos come to my aid more than once. One time even possibly saving my ass from a Nica with a knife behind me. I took him out but never would have known what stuck me if it wasnt for the golden tico shouting at me from other side of street and throwing rocks at the bad guy.The police as a rule are worthless. I thought Colombians were more cultured and higher level than anybody here in Central America. (I now live in Panama) Is this not true?

treedoc comments on Video from Colombia?

Also some more commentary about the plentiful dazzling and extra friendly chicas of that upcountry city. Is it the Bello Horizonte (Brazil) of Colombia? Gracias, treedoc
