Beating the Odds

Hello All,
I recently have made up my mind to travel to Colombia to visit my fiancee. If all goes well, we will probably get married there early next year. I have a few questions:
1.) How long can I stay on my visit before I would need something more than a passport?
2.) Does there exist a service where foreign men can investigate the background of a particular woman?
3.) Is it safe to visit and stay in Cali and/or Buga and/or San Andres Island?
