timeforachangeofscenery comments on Hostage saga embarrassment to FARC, Chávez

When news first emerged on CNN about a proposed deal with the FARC, I remember reading a LOT about how fantastic Chavez and Stone were and how evil Uribe was. I also read on the 31st of December on CNN that a misinformed American by the name of Oliver Stone had the audacity to stand up and announce at the top of his lungs to the assembled world media, "Shame on Colombia - Shame on Uribe". Without shame or humility, Stone then went on to attack the people of Colombia and their democratically elected government because of their refusal to negotiate with a terrorist organisation. Stone, whose only qualification to speak publically on such matters is that he makes movies, was then quoted as stating to the assembled media, "the FARC have no motive not to release these hostages." I wonder how Stone must be feeling (perhaps) after realising that he was nothing more than the mouth piece for a left wing militarist with views to expand his socialist agenda in South America by actively supporting leftist terrorist organisations in neighbouring countries. Perhaps Stone should keep his privately held views to himself and leave the internal runnings of a country to those democratically elected to oversee them.

timeforachangeofscenery comments on TESOL courses

kimanther, at first glance, you appear to be labouring under the misconception that an english teacher in colombia is some kind of rare and valuable commodity. I hate to be the one to break it to you but even with your TESOL quals, you're going to be struggling to make ends meet on an english teacher's salary. I visited a UNI in Bogota that offered the TESOL course. They even offered me a job teaching english students in Bogota to 'tune' their ears into a foreign accent. Perfect. Then I asked how much they paid...............oooops. The money was actually REALLY good by Colombian standards......but then I worked out how much I could afford to spend on rent, food, utilities and travel. It turns out that I'd be running at a loss right from day one. To give an indication of what you're up against, a law graduate in Bogota earns around $US10,000 a year. i guess you could also reverse the situation and ponder, 'how hard would it be for a colombian to travel to brisbane with no english, no formal qualifications and no job history, and get a job that pays enough to support a family?' I'm not saying any of this to be negative or to rain on your parade. I would just like to suggest that you to consider all the possible consequences of your move to Colombia. My advice - and you have to remember that advice is generally worth 10 times what you pay for it - my advice is FREE by the way ...... Stay in Australia - earn, invest, or steal enough money to live on in Australia for a year. Do your TESOL course. Buy a RETURN ticket to Colombia. Arrive in Bogota with your Oz Dollars tucked in a bank account with a visa card access. Get a job and work in Colombia. See what type of lifestyle you can afford on your salary and if it's the lifestyle you're looking for stick with it. If you find yourself needing to dip into your Oz Dollars, then you're not earning enough to support yourself in the manner to which you're accustomed. I lived in Colombia for about a year and a half. I can provide you with a few basic figures that will help you whip up a fairly basic cash-flow projection if you like. You'll know where you can afford to live and how much you can expect to pay in monthly expenses. I hope this helps.... Timefor.

timeforachangeofscenery comments on My friend's Colombian wife in the USA

Geeez this debate had such potential until the likes of Rubito arrived and hi-jacked it. Rubito, you rely on base personal attacks and hateful, racist, sexist slurs to hide your weak intellect and undeveloped communications skills. Your arguments are weak, vulgar, poorly thought out and presented in such a way that makes it nearly impossible to understand what you are trying to say. Your ideas are scattered, rambling and so filled with bile that they render themselves completely unreadable and therefore irrelevant. You readily accept racial stereotypes as quantifiable fact and quote verbatim from the Ku Klux Klan book of insults. """"""SPIC WHORE"""""""" - - who talks like that ????? Uneducated, hate-filled, low life, racists like you Rubito. """"""""""GS 50% of those "hordes" leave the USA within 5 years or LESS."""""""" Right now, the USA now has a higher percentage of immigrant "hordes" than any other time since the 1850's.. 31.3 million foreign-born residents represent 11.3 million more than in the 1990 census--a 57 percent increase--and account for 11.1 percent of the nation's population, or one in nine residents. That proportion is higher than at any other time since the 1930 census, when immigrants made up 11.7 percent of the population. """""""""that's OK, soon we're all going to be driving rickshaws and giving blowjobs to the Chinese anyways, so the balloon of superioirty will get pricked pretty quick"""""""" Dude, if you're referring to the USA, then you're sadly mistaken. The USA didn't become the most powerful nation on earth by "sucking off chinese" and driving around in rick-shaws..... The USA became the most powerful nation on earth through the efficient use of resources and through a system of government that respected and preserves the rights of it's people to pursue happiness. The USA, by rewarding innovation and scientific vigour has also created a technology pipe-line unrivalled anywhere else in the world for more than 100 years. The Chinese will always look to the USA for technological advances. The fact is that the Chinese haven't invented anything useful since the abacus around 4000 years ago. The Chinese became powerful by copying the industrial advances of other nations and then selling them back to them at cheaper prices through the exploitation of the billion workers living on less than $2 a month. """""""""RJ, I'm sorry but people you think that way don't get my respect, they don't deserve it. Anybody who's that stupid is less than human IMO."""""""" Rubito, your respect is not the driving force that encourages the posters on PBH to post here. In fact, your respect is worthless when, judging from the crap that you post here, you don't even respect yourself. If you hate the USA so much Rubito, f*** off to China and see what happens when you open your bigoted, trenched mouth over there. Timefor. timeforachangeofscenery comments on My friend's Colombian wife in the USA

The consensus here seems to be that bringing their colombiana home is a bad mistake. Is that cos they see the bright lights, big city and suddenly change ?? Or is it cos right from the get-go, their sole aim in marrying a gringo is a ticket state-side ? - after which, the gringo is excess baggage........ And J_S, if you're nice, I'll show you how to soup up your Monica Bellucci doll with nothing more than a few rolls of air-frame tape, some super glue and two cubic feet of nitrogen........... Ziiiing!!!!

timeforachangeofscenery comments on Advise to people thinking about marrying a Colombian

Christobeldawg, there's not really any point to clarifying anything here - and i'm not saying that to be argumentative. I firmly believe that to be successful in love, you do so without rhyme nor reason. It's those hombres y mamasitas that approach love with a "Plan" and a whole buch of preconceived "rules" that come aground. "She has to earn as much as I do", "He has to want children" - phooey. Personally, I think that as we grow older, our perceptions change and we grow to want new things. If you married a chica cos she's funny and smart, then chances are, fifty years from now, you're going to die happy with a wife that loves you. If on the other hand, you married her cos her tetas were just PERFECT and you didn't want to share her with any other mo fokk, then in a years time, you're both going to be looking for a change of scenery. If you want to separate the wheat from the chaff, (the gold diggers from the keepers), you gotta dump the game-plan and go for someone that wants to make you as happy as you make them.

timeforachangeofscenery comments on My friend's Colombian wife in the USA

LOL Lisa.....yes....this kind of thing only happens in Colombia jejejejeje How many BILLIONS of dollars did Anna Nicole earn from her marriage to the light of her life. :)

timeforachangeofscenery comments on My friend's Colombian wife in the USA

Let's be realistic....Soccer man doesn't marry hot colombiana half his age because he enjoys romantic nights by the fire, long walks in the park, passionate nights dancing 'til dawn and a desperate desire to start a family. He marries her for his own selfish reasons - hot sexy mamasita fulfilling his every fantasy, , sexy young trophy wife boosting his flagging self esteem etc etc etc. Hot sexy colombiana trophy wife marries Santa Claus for a visa and a free ticket to the USA. Everybody gets what they want. Where's the harm ???

timeforachangeofscenery comments on My friend's Colombian wife in the USA

Come on Boy Hardy, that pic was excellent !!!! lol

timeforachangeofscenery comments on My friend's Colombian wife in the USA

Damn Boy Hardy, You know how to make a point !!!!

timeforachangeofscenery comments on My friend's Colombian wife in the USA

What else was she going to say? I'm here, I'm young, I'm hot, I'm legal and now I don't need you anymore you old fuddy duddy. She didn't want to look like a bad person. So she did what any colombiana does when she's doing something selfish - she justifies it with every unselfish excuse she can conjure. This chica has just picked out the stereotypical reasons why she feels couples break up in the US and are using them to justify her breaking up with him. "Darling, I really really LOVE you but you're just working TOO hard to support us and you're keeping yourself in shape for me is driving us apart." As for the racial discrimination mierde, nowadays, one in 9 americans are now of African American descent, plus there is a huge population of latinos, indians, pakistanis, etc etc etc.......inter-racial marriages don't even raise an eye brow anymore. She probably just stole that excuse from a telenovela. She's not a saint, she's just selfish and self-absorbed. He's better off. Let some other poor schmuck deal with her. Timefor.

timeforachangeofscenery comments on at 2007.09.10 17:19:16 UTC 1$ = 2199

That should read.......if you bought a house 3 months ago in colombia when the peso was 1900 and then SOLD it today at 2100 pesos, you would have lost $15000. If you decided not to sell it today, then you'd still have your nice house.....rentable for pretty tidy return.......live-in-able at your leisure and appreciating in value year after year. If you kept holding on to it, You would have a place to grow old in and perhaps hand down to your grand kids after you're gone. Then your far off descendants would be able to trace the origins of their wealth and relative comfort to their forward thinking ancestoral beneficiary who refused to sell his house when the dollar went up so that he could blow it all in Vegas and move into his car. I guess I'm a glass half full kinda guy. Take care Tfacos.

timeforachangeofscenery comments on Urgent help needed!

Again with the digs at Colombianas who marry gringos John Stark ??? Please tell the nice people where you are from John...........and then tell the nice people where your wife is from John. Then we can all sit back and laugh at how FULL OF SH!T you are. Tabla - get Skype. It's 9c a min to call Colombian mobiles. And the best part is that the first call you make - she's not going to know it's YOU. That means that if she picks up - she's screening you. Take care Timefor.

timeforachangeofscenery comments on Life in a FARC Camp

Tinto, The stuff that guy's writing cannot in all decency be considered journalism. A journalist's function is to present an unbiased representation of the facts for the benefit of the general public. When a writer carefully selects his facts and then presents these facts in a biased fashion, and in such a way that these facts then support a message that corresponds to his personal agenda, this person can no longer be considered a journalist. This person is nothing more than a propogandist. The FARC would never consider taking a real journalist with them into the jungle. This is because a real journalist would be forced - in the interest of unbiased reporting - to state all the facts - in context - for the public to make their own judgement. People who run their own web-sites should be forced to outline any affiliations they might hold prior to be allowing to peddle their rubbish. tfac

timeforachangeofscenery comments on Colombia's Uribe urges voters to seek successor

Is it true that he has a 75 % approval rating ??? - that's amazing. Maybe instead of changing the constitution himself, he could call for a referendum (ask the people) on the issue and see what they say. I wish the man well in any event. timefor.

timeforachangeofscenery comments on Estados Unidos

Dude, don't take this the wrong way but your opinion of me means nothing to me. I'm sorry to be blunt, but that's just the stone cold truth. You think you know me because of a few comments you read and probably misunderstood on PBH ?? Give me a break. I'm not here trying to convert anybody to my way of thinking. I'm not here trying to make you think that USA is better than Colombia. Hell, I'm not even here trying to make you look bad. And if you look really really really closely, I never said that the USA was freer than anywhere else in the world. I just happen to enjoy the freedoms we have here and I understand and accept the freedoms we don't have. It's just that simple. Timefor

timeforachangeofscenery comments on Estados Unidos

Rubito, I suggest you take the time to actually understand an argument before you start gibber-gabbering at people. In your hysterical, self-righteous rant you advise me not to post about something I don't know about but then you take great pains to eloquently highlight your own ignorance. Nowhere in my post did I say that the Colombians did not have a constitution. They do. It is known as the Constitution of the rights. It was promulgated in 1991 and repeals the constitution of 1886. The constitution protects the basic human rights stipulated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This is an advisory declaration set forth by the UN in 1948. Colombia has adopted the formula of social state of right which took the shape of a decentralised unified state with a certain autonomy for its territorial entities and a presidential system. They even have a constitutional court which decides of the constitutionality of laws etc etc. Where your argument runs aground is that the constitution does not stop states from making stupid legislation. They can legislate their ar$es off. They can make up all the stupid laws they want to - much as they do in the USA. The Cali law was a light-hearted example of legislators gone MAD. But seeing as you chose to attack me for it, I suggest you go and check the Cali statutes and then come back and apologise. """""Hell, don't forget to mention in Georgia TO THIS DAY oral and anal sex is illegal, not to mention aside from rural Nevada, in the US you have no right to buy or sell sex. Now those things are BASIC freedoms that make a huge difference to me."""""" Dude, I'm sorry that you can't have anal sex with prostitutes in Georgia. But that is not a constitutional issue. A law becomes unconstitutional in the US when it violates the articles of the Bill of Rights. The right to speedy trial, freedom for free exercise of religion, freedom of speech, the right of peaceful assembly and the right to petition the government for redress of grievance. And I'm also sorry that your taxi driver was crazy and a bad driver. I suggest next time you go for a taxi ride, you take along a copy of the constitution to show the driver where he is violating your civil rights. Timefor.

Thanks Scotty :) All this talk is making me thirsty....... Well, I'm off to the Airport for a nice mug of steaming, velvety, rich Juan Valdez coffee!!!!!! Oooooh and a Nevara for afters! :D Ciao for now. Timefor.

timeforachangeofscenery comments on Estados Unidos

LOL Sorry Scotty. It's true. You can relax though man.....I can't find any law that stops a man from sleeping with whomever the heck he wants!!!! Definitely not a case of "what's good for the goose is good for the gander" Timefor.

timeforachangeofscenery comments on Estados Unidos

La Mona, I've since edited my post in order to reflect your concerns. Thankyou. Timefor.

timeforachangeofscenery comments on Estados Unidos

La Mona, I would never attack anyone personally and I apologise to both you and Lisa if you have interpreted my remarks as an attack. On re-reading my post, I guess my comment did come off as a little abrupt. That was not my intent. I found Lisa's post to be well considered and an excellent source of debate. Timefor.

timeforachangeofscenery comments on Estados Unidos

Nah you're right Gringolondinense..... Still, I wonder how things might have turned out for the freedom loving italians if Mussolini had stayed out of that particular war and focussed on his agenda at home. And dude, you appear to discount the social cost of corruption. In a land where bribery, graft and kick-backs are accepted by police, government officials and politicians, nobody is really free. Tfac.

timeforachangeofscenery comments on Estados Unidos

La Mona, That was an example of a piece of legislation that constrains the rights of a nation's citizens based on nothing more than an outdated code of moral decency. It was an example quoted in order to contest her proposal that Colombia is universally more free than other nations. Timefor.

timeforachangeofscenery comments on Estados Unidos

LOOL Italy didn't even constitutionalise freedom of the press until 1947 - and they had to have their ar$es handed to them by the ALLIES before they would do it. I don't think that any country that regularly fed Christians to lions, paid Dictator wages to Mussolini, has to put with Mafiosa gang-land killings, intrenched government corruption or Vespas should get to be included on the "Freest places to live list". tfac

timeforachangeofscenery comments on Estados Unidos

Oooooh and Scottty........did you see that they now have Juan Valdez at Miami airport ??? :O I go to the airport now just do drink delicious colombian coffee and "find" luggage !!!! I usually like to make a day of it ! :D Take care Tfacos.

timeforachangeofscenery comments on Estados Unidos

You can have your freedom to drink beer on an aeroplane. I'll take my freedom for peaceful assembly, freedom for free exercise of religion, freedom of speech, the right of peaceful assembly and the right to petition the government for redress of grievance. The erosion of some liberties notwithstanding, I defy you to find another nation that has fought harder for the institutionalised freedoms we all appear to take for granted today. Colombia too, has examples of legislation set in place apparently in order simply to constrain the rights of her citizens based on nothing more than an antiquated moral code. An example of this is the law in Cali that states that a woman may only sleep with her husband. Tfacos.

timeforachangeofscenery comments on No need to cancel properly in colombia?

""you guys never play... right?"" you ask a married man to try playing is a lot like asking a player to try marriage. i'm happy - you're happy - leave it the f*** alone.

timeforachangeofscenery comments on No need to cancel properly in colombia?

robi666, who's talking about you ? get over yourself you arrogant prick.

timeforachangeofscenery comments on No need to cancel properly in colombia?

robi666, nope. but then i'm married.......it probably sounds corny to you but all i do every day now is show my wife how much i love and respect her. it's actually more fun than playing - you should try it.

timeforachangeofscenery comments on No need to cancel properly in colombia?

You self-appointed relationship "Gurus" are the reason chicas have become so cynical towards members of the opposite sex. You clowns go into a relationship with a whole bunch of stupid, half-arsed rules based on emotionally manipulating someone and wonder why your potential "fuck buddies" give you the run-around. "Sniff......she wouldn't let me sleep with her - booo hooo" Drop the stupid mind games........show some honesty..........show her you respect her and if she doesn't respond to THAT, then she is the wrong girl........... timeforachangeofscenery comments on Sicario- The Movie

oooh yes......and for more info about La Virgen de los Sicarios, check out this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_virgen_de_los_sicarios

timeforachangeofscenery comments on Sicario- The Movie

Sicario the movie was about a 12 year old boy who murdered people for money. He likes the money but loses his taste for murdering people - touching sh!t. I think you might have the Medellin angle a little bit confused.......there are over 300 hundred "Sicario" gangs in Medellin. The most famous (infamous) might be "La Terraza" and was Pablo Escobar's person sicario gang. As the movie was made in Venezuela, I'm not sure that the reference to Sicarios were directed to Colombian Sicarios. There was however, a movie called, La Virgen de los Sicarios which was shot entirely in Medellin and took out the prestigious Colombian Movie of the Year Award. You might be referring to this one ??? Timefor.

timeforachangeofscenery comments on Shakira unplugged

Has anybody here ever actually sat down and watched MTV ???? The crap that passes for MUSIC these days is nothing more than soft porn with a beat. The reason musical artists have taken this route is that music is now all about economics and sex sells. The demographic of horny, testosterone driven, adolescent men with credit cards is now the number one target market in the world and Shakira knows it. It's not that she's not as gifted as she once was. She's just taken a executive decision to shift the focus away from her singing and towards baring her more lucrative assets. I for one don't watch music videos anymore. Timefor.

timeforachangeofscenery comments on Life in a FARC Camp

Yuk....what a horrible article. I need a shower. I couldn't believe this propoganda masquerading as journalism..... """"The FARC’s involvement in the coca trade and its human rights abuses against civilians, including kidnapping and the use of landmines and notoriously inaccurate homemade mortars, have made it easy for critics to simply dismiss the rebels as criminals. However, the issue is not so black and white, as I discovered in the FARC camp. In fact, it is difficult to accept such claims given the difficult life that the guerrillas live. After all, unlike Colombian soldiers and paramilitary fighters, the rebels do not get paid and they receive no material benefits other than three meals a day."""" He's basically saying, "They ARE criminals and they do kill, maim and kidnap civilians but it's ok - they're NOT spending the money on big houses or nice cars - hell, they don't even get cable out there" He says that these people are being inaccurately portrayed as criminals - what a NERVE. If an army attacks civilians in time of war, they're committing a WAR CRIME - which makes them war criminals. If a group of people attack civilian targets, then they're criminals. Pure and simple. There's no grey area when you attack civilian targets. Then he goes on and on about how his FARC buddies are all fighting for equality and freedom. The irony that they're doing this by attacking the very civilians they're trying to liberate is no doubt lost on this clown. His last paragraph is a self-indulgent rant on the merits of socialism with a few perfunctory references to his farc funded field-trip to maintain the facade of relevance. What a load of CRAP. Timefor.

timeforachangeofscenery comments on Shakira unplugged

timeforachangeofscenery comments on Colombia is the Second Happiest Place for the Planet

Yerr good call Podborski, How do you even measure an ecological foot print. I mean do they take into consideration the number of trees in your forests off-setting your carbon emissions, the amount of carbon created by the burning of the oil you export, the number of polluting industries that aren't even registered. What about the number of cars that still burn lead petrol.....the antiquated buses that spew forth carcinogenic chemicals and industries that still use banned chemicals such as benzene, ddt or chloro fluorocarbons.

timeforachangeofscenery comments on

I don't see what all the fuss is about. Six thousand people sent e-mails and thirty thousand people (maybe including some of the people who also sent e-mails) dialed the telephone number. And some of THOSE people who called might have called twice or three times. That makes a MAXIMUM of 36,000 and an absolute minimum of 6,000 people (assuming that none of the e-mailers e-mailed on more that one occasion using different e-mail accounts.) When you consider that the number of women aged between 15 and 64 is around 14 764 894 (CIA World Fact Book - Colombia), you are looking at an incredibly small percentage of women who got duped. A maximum of roughly point 24 of a percent of their targeted demographic in Colombia. The advertising jack-asses alleged to have been happily slapping each other on the back appear to be full of crap as well. The fact that sales of new Renaults are up in Colombia after this campaign appears to be completely coincidental and completely unaffected by this multi-million dollar advertising con-job. As Renault's own sales data point out, sales of new Renaults in Colombia as of June 1st 2007 were up 41% on last year's numbers anyway. (http://www.conceptcar.co.uk/news/general/cardesignnews17.php) This indicates that, according to the current trend in Renault sales, Renault would have sold this number of new cars with or without this advertising. The advertising clowns in Colombia might just as well have given the money to the poor and homeless and arrived at exactly the same result. Now that would have made for a good story. I guess an exaggerated story about loved starved, gold digging victims of a con is always going to sell more newspapers than a story about helping the poor and the homeless. Timefor.
