thundernco comments on Bra sizes in colombia - no, I´m not joking

Hear the same from my wife. She always picks up a suitcase of lingerie, bras, etc. when we go back. I don't get it. -TNC

thundernco comments on How much coffee can you bring back to the US legally if at all

A suitcase Not sure what the limit is, but we usually bring back a suitecase of coffee beans, lingerie and sundrys that my wife says ae unlike any she can find here. -TNC

thundernco comments on k1 and health insurance question

I think the laws changed on the SSN, not auth'd to work. You can get an ITIN for them, it's fast and easy. -TNC

thundernco comments on Search: accomodation & furniture in Cali

Go to Casa de Remates They have good quality used furniture and appliances. It's located across the street from the Clinica Seguro Social Rafael Uribe Uribe in the north just off Avenida de Las Americas (Tercera Norte). Great stuff there. Good luck -TNC

thundernco comments on Your Col. Spouse in the US: Homesick or Happy?

Utterly... homesick! My wife is/was very close to her sibling, parents, grandparents, etc. so she misses them dearly. I come from a very tight knit family also, and they've accepted her and while we all speak spanish fluently, it's not the same. In the past we lived in Colombia and will probably return in the not too distant future. She had a good life before me, had a tourist visa and vacationed in the US, well sort of the US... Miami, often. While she likes the states for vacation, it's not home for her. She just happened to fall in love with me and we married, but the separation from her family has been tough. I can somewhat understand as both my sisters refuse to leave the area because they feel the same way about our parents and tight knit family. -TNC

thundernco comments on Marriage by proxy

What if the marriage goes bad? If you marry out in the states you're going to miss out on the possibility of a 15 min divorce. Not to be a downer, but you what they say, it's easier to get married than it is divorced. -TNC

thundernco comments on Prepping for interview

The children should go if she plans to bring and they're applying for K2 visas. All else sounds good. -TNC

thundernco comments on Awful....rumor, right?

thundernco comments on Help me! Need advice on how to deal with f.....g latin NOVELAS, I can't stand it

C'mon Kat, the Venezuelan and mexican ones are an insult to the human intelligent? What about La Mujer en el Espejo? That was about the dumbest novela I've ever seen, but I was forced to sit through because Paola Rey is so damned hot! ;-) -TNC

thundernco comments on Colombians in San Francisco, CA

A good start would be to go to the Colombian Consulate on Market St. in the city. I believe there is a club for locals in the Bay area; they may have info there. Good luck -TNC

thundernco comments on from Antifreeze in Cali, Colombia

Interesting, what do you do in Cali, as far as work is concerned? -TNC

thundernco comments on Computer Science Jobs in Colombia

You could always put up hoja de vida at www.elempleo.com.co

thundernco comments on Ecuador/Colombia border

Travel only by day and you'll be fine. Travel at night and you're just asking for trouble. There are usually many low-cost hotels near most terminals
-TNC

thundernco comments on Does someone know when DAS started charging for visa extensions again?

I didn't know it had changed, I thought fees had always been charged for renewals. At least this is how it has been done in Cali. You shouldn't be fined as long as you don't pass the expiration date on your visa. -TNC

thundernco comments on Getting married soon in Colombia, but

Nothing that you've posted gives any indication as to why you would question her sincerity. Are the normal pre-marriage jitters or did something happen? -TNC

thundernco comments on Taking my kids to see the "Old Country"

Heed Gator's advice. Both my children were born in CO. We travel back and forth between the states and CO, and it has ALWAYS (more than 5 times) been an issue when one of us tavels alone with our children. Once we didn't know about the rule, ok our fault, another time we had the docs signed by the CO consulate in San Francisco but even they didn't tell us that we needed a stamp from another dept. so I had to fly dow to accompany them back ($$$$). We have been asked for these docs every single time. Just an FYI. -TNC

thundernco comments on Would like some feedback.

You're being used. All you are is a revenue stream for her and her family. Utopiacowboy and I share similarities as to how our wives treat us, with much love doting on us and respect. I don't know you or your wife, and this is only speculation, but it doesn't sound like she ever loved you or respected you. Cut your losses, you'll meet plenty of women in Panama or Colombia that will appreciate a good man. Good luck -TNC

thundernco comments on Una pregunta para Colombianas

A typo, sorry it should have read 30. A small typo but as usual Desi, you prove that common sense is an uncommon virtue. My friend is in his late 50's and looks great (fitness superfreak), and she in her late 20's. Don't make assumptions Desi... -TNC

thundernco comments on Una pregunta para Colombianas

Not a big issue. One of things that I had to get through my head was my self imposed age restrictions. I have a friend who is 300 yrs senior to his wife, married 5 yearr and both happy. Myself I'm also a bit older than my wife, and we've been together almost as long. See this often, and no it's not always about the money. If you're cool, and younger women are usually attracted to you anyways, you'll have no issue. -TNC

thundernco comments on Una pregunta acerca novias para Colombianas

Thundernco La edad no es ninguna problema si eres un ersona buena. Mi compadre es 30 anos mayor que su esposa. Yo tambien llevo a mi esposa con unos anos. -TNC

We order the pre-made arepas and flour from:

Not a recipe but hope it helps anyway. Not only that, your wife may be able to find other Colombian things she's missing. -TNC

Try elempleo.com I see quite a few tech jobs on that, but you must put you hoja de vida in spanish of course. Good luck -TNC

thundernco comments on Calbagata and Friends

Classic, I would have loved to witness that conversation. As always, great pics CP. It was rough, watching coverage of the feria on TV Colombia and not being able to participate. Take care, and as usual, send me an email for access on the rest. -TNC

thundernco comments on Colombian custom

Asking for hand in marriage? I did, and it was very well received. I think it set the foundation for mutual respect between my suegros and I. Good luck, TNC

thundernco comments on what do you think?

Bubble butts... my wife will tell you that's my Kryptonite!

thundernco comments on Colorado Contacts

If you go to the Planet-love.com, latin board, there's a fine gentleman by the handle of Edge who posts from time to time. I believe he is from the Denver area. He's a great guy and his wife is Colombiana. -TNC

thundernco comments on christmas song....na na na

Thanks Julian! I burned a cd for my wife and kids and they absolutely loved it. This is the first year we're not in Colombia for the holidays and it's been difficult for us. I'll put together some questions for you on the it infrastructure in Cali. Thanks again. Que estes bien -TNC

thundernco comments on

Reminds me of a time a few years back, when I was living in Cali. I was at Chipichape, at the Mont Blanc store picking up a repair and I saw an older gentleman with an stunningly beautiful mid-20ish woman. It was obviuos that they were very well to do. A few minutes later another couple walks in and the men recognize and greet each other. After a couple od pleasantries, the first couple walked away and the wife of the second man asked him, "is that his wife or his daughter". The man answered that it was his wife. The whole conversation was very non-chalant and the fact that the young lady wasn't an issue. After that time, I noticed more and more couples. It may not be as common as described, but it certainly isn't very uncommon. -TNC

thundernco comments on christmas song....na na na

Thanks! I received your email and will answer it later. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Just curious, are you a Brit? -TNC

Thanks for the info. -TNC

thundernco comments on Challenge for Des ;-)

As with all things, it all depends on how much she likes you. If she's really into you, it's all good. -TNC

thundernco comments on moving to cartegena

Is that $1,620.00 per month or $16,200.00 per year, or $1,620.00 per year. On either one except the last, you should be ok to live a decent and comfortable life.

-TNC

thundernco comments on Looking for a Job in Bogota,Medellin, or Cartagena

Check out www.elempleo.com

I often see openings for people with your background. Hopefully you're still younger than 35 because it get's a bit difficult to land a job after that. One of the things that has always bewildered me about the job market in Co is the ageism. Good luck -TNC

thundernco comments on Aura y Calipro

Take Care, TNC

thundernco comments on Aura y Calipro

Thundernco Hey CP,

Hope you're well bud. -TNC

thundernco comments on Would you go back to live in Colombia?

Thundernco In a heartbeat! I lived there for a couple of years and am actually making plans to return within the next year. As far as the education for children is concerned, personally I feel that only our universities are better. K-12, I think a decent private school has the average US public school beat hands down. -TNC
