By affordable I'm thinking in the range of $25/night and less.
How long does it typically take for a Colombian non-US resident with the proper documentation (turist visa, etc) to get through customs and passport control once de-boarding the plane?

Like some members here, I am sometimes put off by the overly romantic perception that some have of Colombia. I was an exchange student from June '98 to July'99 and in that one year, I saw or heard more bad stories than I had in my entire life up until then. I'll admit my experience was skewed since I grew up in suburbia. Nevertheless, I thought I would put together a list of the bad shit:

Anyone have any recommendations for a reasonably priced mid-range hotel in the north of Bogota?
I'm currently at the Platypus, which is fine, but I'm on vacation and don't necessarily feel like doing the hosteling thing...

Hi there. I was an exchange student in Colomba 5 years ago and I coming for a couple weeks in August with some friends who have never been there. Anyways, I didn't know the night scene well before and I am certainly clueless now.
Any recommendations? I am interested in the all types of places, be it Salsa, Rock, Sit-down restaurants, whatever. Basically, I just want a good crowd. I'm especially interested to know what places are good on week nights.

Hi there. Does anyone know if ATM's in Bogota commonly bear the American Express logo? I know PLUS & CIRRUS are common. I lived there in 98/99 but had no need for American Express at the time...
