My stepdaughter wants a 'pink' laptop for La Navidad.. and not sure where the best place to purchase would be. I have spoken to someone at a call center for Dell Canada and they told me that there wasn't a Spanish version of Vista...so that ends that! I wasn't sure if it was better to purchase here or purchase in Bogota and take my chances. Any suggestions or advice would be welcome! Thanks guys......:) ...
Hola peeps... I am looking for info on hotels or equivalent for a visit during the Christmas season as I don not want to spend my time in Bogota. I have no problem with Sofitel but would be interested in other peoples thoughts. I can't imagine spending 2 weeks in Bogota during Christmas without family/friends, etc. so I am looking for an alternative. My wife's family is in Barranquilla but I prefer not to go there as I do not want to be the Gringo Claus and of course, I don't hablo Espanol. J ...

I posted about a Birth Certificate received in a Notaria in Bogota being denied as it was expired. This was in relation to my application to wed a Colombiana with whom I have had a relationship for 2 years. For some reason, this post was deleted..... and I'm not going to wonder why.... but.. It would have been a simple courtesy to allow me to thank those who thought it worthwhile to respond....so... many thanks to those who took the time to respond. Was advised by a Bogota notary that my birth certificate had expired. Of all the paperwork required for a marriage in Colombia, everything doubly certified by both Canadian notaries and the Consulate of Colombia, just my 'Birth Certificate' is expired. When I mentioned this to the staff at Vital Statistics Canada, everyone broke out laughing! What kind of logic do they have in Colombia? The notaria refers to the date of issuance... meaning when I last applied for a copy of my birth certifica ...
I must send some documents to a notary in Bogota but my Spanglish is not too good and I can't resolve an address for DHL. My fiance gave me this addy: Bogota D.C. Colombia Notaria 73 Avenida El Dorado 69C-03 Local 103 .......and that's all. For some reason, I have a problem with this. Perhaps because I am Canadian and it doesn't fit in my understanding of a viable address. Also, these documents have cost dearly and I do not want them going astray. The website for Notaria 73... gives t ...
My fiance and her daughter now reside in the Quinta Paredes neighbourhood of Bogota and are looking for a school that teaches English. This would be in addition to the girl's regular school...(grade 6). She does have some information on a place called 'Orange Entertainment' that teaches English but as I understand it, the classes are only 50 miutes on Saturday only, and the cost is 330,000 pesos per month. To my mind, this is rather expensive as it works out to approx 40,000+ per hour. Is this t ...
My fiance and her 11 yr old daughter is moving to Bogota from Barranquilla due to some family problems and I thought that someone here might have some ideas for us. It would have to be close to schools and in a safe neighborhood. Rent... well it would be best if it not exceed 4 or 500;000 pesos per month. Duration of stay would be approximately 9 to 10 months. Would appreciate any feedback. Thanks in advance Terry ...
will be in Colombia from Augusto 3 to Augusto 16 and will be in Barranquilla, Medellin, Cali, and Cartegena... Laquito to be specific, and would welcome anyone from this forum to join me and my fiance for a beer or 12. It would be very interestied to meet with people that we know only as nicks on the internet.I am a Canadian and my fiance is a Colombiana from Barranquilla and we would really like to talk with some of you that could spare the time. My fiance speaks Spanish and English and I ...
I am travelling to Colombia next Friday and was wondering about the gifts I want to bring. Can anyone advise if there is a limit... dollarwise.. on the value of these gifts or will I have a problem just because I bring gifts. Last time into Colombia I had just finished some work in Chile so all I had was work clothes. I can't remember what was included on the paper I filled out when entering Colombia.
Appreciate any help on this.

Hello group.... I am heading to Barranquilla next week and will be staying first night in the Dann Carlton hotel before heading out to Cartagena for a week with my fiance. I have been advised about the bus travel and the frequent stops by the police for paperwork checks... but I have to wonder if the taxi route is really an alternative.
Replies appreciated!

If I was to support someone in Colombia, are they subject to an income tax? This may be short term or long term. I understand when I send money via Western Union, they deduct a 'tax' at payout. It is not much but it is a tax nonetheless. If the party was to set up a bank account and money is wire transferred...what taxes would be levied if any?
Appreciate any comments on this.
Thanks

Hi all
New to this forum but interested as I have recently met and became involved with a Colombiana. I want to say Hello to you all and hope that perhaps you will share your experiences and knowledge with me. It would be greatly appreciated.I am Canadian and not too wise in the affairs of immigration.
I am attempting to bring her to Canada but I know the road is long and difficult. I would ask if anyone here has any experience with this and in particular, could advise of ...
