my story: girl meets colombian boy...girl & boy fall in love...girl & boy get engaged...boy walks out...

hi everyone...i've been lurking and posting sporadically on this site for a little over a year now. most of my posts were about my first trip to colombia and then after that were a lot of questions on translation....anyway...i thought i'd tell my story....

two years ago i met and fell in love with a colombian man. he was someone who i met and instantly knew. i don't know if anyone has ever had that experience. if you haven't you'll think i'm mad for what i say. but i honestly ...

how would a colombian say....

how would a colombian say 'I know about you two'

basically a guy saying this to another guy and a girl...use your imagination as to why i need to know this...

Help with arequipe which more closely resembles a rock than a pleasant dessert!

hi everyone
i tried to make arequipe this weekend from a colombian recipie book and somewhere it all went wrong and i now have a plastic container filled with solid brown sugar. not exactly what i was going for. any idea how i might fix this situation? could i remelt the sugar rock, add more milk and see if i could make it creamy? any suggestions?? i would love some help b/c if i don't find a way to fix this i either have a very sweet paperweight or its going in the bin!

christmas song....na na na

ok i have a funny request. my fiance has mentioned he loves some colombian christmas song that seems to me to be a kids song. it doesn't seem to have actual words, just na na na or some variation of that. i would love to be able to know the name of the song so i can find a copy to download. it would bring a smile to his face i'm sure as we're very far from his family at christmas (we're in the middle east) and its been very hard for him so far. thanks in advance for the help!

Anyone know why Armenia is called Armenia?

history lesson please....i am armenian (not the kind which lives in the city armenia in colombia, but the kind from the country armenia near turkey and iran) and i am wondering why there is a city all the way in colombia named armenia. i was there a few months ago, but only briefly on travels through elsewhere. i have tried to find info and to see if there are any armenian communities in colombia but can't seem to find either. can anyone help me out? i would love to know if there were armeni ...

Getting married in two countries...Is it possible?

hi guys. i've read most of the posts about the process for getting married in the states or in colombia. i've got a slightly different situation however. i live in the middle east and my fiance and i want to have a wedding here for my family and a wedding in colombia for his. now i have a ton of questions i'm hoping you guys can help me with. just to give you some background, the colombian in the relationship is male and i'm female. we're both currently living in the middle east. we're bo ...

Who has posted pictures on this site?

hi everyone
i know a lot of people have posted pictures on the site and instead of going through and clicking on everyone's user name i thought i'd ask who has put things up. i love putting faces and points of reference to all the names and comments i read here. i've got picts in my gallery, only scenery shots of colombia though (haven't felt ready to 'reveal' people picts yet :-) ) and i would love to know who else has pictures up to look at.

cheers ...

Can you guys help with a quick translation please?

everyone has been so helpful in the past with translations and i need to ask for help again. my spanish is still virtually non-existant, and the different online translators i use (babelfish, paralink, reverso) all give different translations. so i thought i'd ask the native spanish speakers among you for help instead. please tell me what the following says:

Tu eres muy chistoso ayer dijiste que nos podiamos quedar juntos mucho hoy por la mañana y luego siempre sales con cosas ...

Posted picts from my recent trip to Colombia

Hi everyone

I posted pictures from my 5 week trip to Colombia in June/July of this year. Just click on my name above and go to picture gallery. I tried to show you all a little bit of the different places I saw while I was there. I hope for those who have been to Colombia it reminds you of places you love, and for those who haven't been it gives you a taste of what you will see.

Cheers ...

The guys are getting ruffled....

You know what I think is sad. The women who use this site listen to the men objectify women constantly. Yet one woman expresses something negative about women in Colombia and the reaction is so negative. I'm not agreeing with Desi's comments, but I have to admit that I've heard the same things repeated by several Colombians. Relax guys. This is a site to expres opinions and share information about Colombia. We are all here because we have some attachment to the country or another. Most pe ...

jobs for non-spanish speakers...easy?

hi everyone

just curious about something. what kind of job opportunities are there in bogota for a non-spanish speaker? i´ve been told that since i hold an american passport and speak fluent english that even without knowing spanish it would be relatively easy for me to find work in bogota. to me this sounds impossible (especially as i´m talking about jobs outside the teaching field) as spanish seems very necessary. i´m just interested in what people think or what any of yo ...

What is with Colombian men and cheating?

why does everyone on this forum seem to say that all colombian men are cheaters? i hate gross generalizations of any culture, but i´m just really curious about this one. what is everyone´s opinion on this and why do you think the way you do? i would love to hear what everyone has to say.... ...

lessons in navigating bogota's airport for a gringa....

ok....i know i've asked before about the airport in bogota, but i really need to know from you guys what this is going to be like....bearing in mind i speak essentially no spanish....i look very much like a gringa....and i'll be wandering in with an american passport...does it matter if i come off a flight from spain vs the US? (i've got both options) is it really important that i don't talk to anyone so i don't draw any unwanted attention? (this was advice from a bogota native) help make me ...

translation help please....

I've used all the online translators (reverso, babelfish...) to translate the text below, but I know they don't really do true justice. Can anyone help with a more realistic translation of the three bits I've copied below. I'm not sure about what any of it says really, so I hope its not anything offensive and I apologize if it is. Thanks....

need to teach myself Spanish fast....HELP!!!

hi everyone

as i said in my last topic i'll be travelling to colombia in june. the advice that seems to come up over and over again is that i should brush up on my spanish as much as possible before i go. or in my case, i need to learn spanish that can be used in polite company (with what i know now i'll either offend everyone or tell them that i love them!). as i have very little time (i'll be in colombia in just 2.5 weeks) i would love it if anyone can help recommend a good s ...

Advice for first time traveller...I'm sure you're sick of this question...

Hi everyone

I only stumbled across this site recently and have had a great time reading everyone's posts. Now it is time for me to ask some questions. I am dating a Colombian man I met more than a year ago when we were both living in Australia. Since then we have both moved back to our home countries, and so have been struggling with the distance for some time. Now I am planning on visiting him in Bogota in June and want to get some advice. I am Armenian, but very fair skinne ...
